  • Welcome to my new project. This one is going to be build after La Candelaria and it is dedicated to my eternal beloved buddy Wolf who has passed away on the 9th of June 2022 . It is a pretty good one with lots of details and premium quality of materials.
    Also i want you to write down / vote for what would you like the color of the leds to be. Choose between red, white and yellow or combinations. This Video comes in 4K.
    Voting is done, so here and Facebook we have :
    Red : 6
    White : 4
    Yellow : 0
    Red and White : 7
    Red and Yellow : 2

    Hello Buddy, nice to meet you. This kit looks pretty good, John. As far as the colour of the lights go I'd say that if this is meant to be a tribute to Wolf then make them white. He was the light of your life after all.

    Hello John, another big project to follow. The Prinz Eugen looks like it will be a massive ship. This will be a fun project to see developed. Occre sure are making a lot of new models lately, and tomorrow (19-06) another reveal from Occre. Happy modelling. Regards, Jason.

    This is going to be a very interesting build!
    I noticed on this though, and it might be worth checking.
    The model is 1:200 scale. THE DECK PLANKING SEEMS VERY WIDE. When compared to the Trumpeter kits of Bismark and Hood, also at 1:200 (which use glue-down, laser etched veneer). the deck planking on the Occre Prinz Eugen looks out of scale. What do you think?
    On lighting - here's my suggestion:
    Red lights would be for night (perhaps combat only) and in the command areas, not portholes, which would be closed when ship is in action.
    Yellow lights would be "in port" or "peacetime" for all areas, portholes, superstructure, etc.
    Red & Green - port-starboard running lights (probably off in combat)
    You may want to rig the LEDs in TWO MODES: Night Action (RED and In Port/peacetime (Yellow)
    ALSO, there are SEARCHLIGHTS (perhaps WHITE LEDs) - there are quite a few searchlights - which will be a real challenge to hook up - and another switching mode.
    Looking forward to "looking over your shoulder" as you proceed!

    • @JohnsWoodenShips
      @JohnsWoodenShips  2 года назад

      I really do not know if it's out of scale, i haven't seen what the width of the planks are. It is hard to have 2 different colors and be able to switch to one at the time, there is not enough space in the hull as i have seen in the photos. So one vote for yellow and red. Thank you very much for your kind words!

    As I follow your channel for a long time now and you having an excellent electronic background, I think it would be amazing to see it with bright white light and have the possibility to switch to combat red lights. This is if the hull structure allows it, because it is filled with balsa wood.

    • @JohnsWoodenShips
      @JohnsWoodenShips  2 года назад +1

      It it a very good idea, it will be very hard to make this happen because of the type of the hull. I am not so sure that i would be able to fit 2 different led strips in here like i did in Titanic.

    Hi John. Buddy has a new job. Being a supervisor is hard work. Wolf was very experienced, but Buddy will get the hang of it. Once again OcCre is showing their top of the line position as model kit makers. There is none better. This kit was twice the price and will most likely take twice as long to build, but oh what a fun one it will be. Maybe it should be next and La Candelaria after. Thats my vote. I have no vote for light colors.

    Wow, lovely model, looking forward to follow the build. I am doing a similar model - Bismarck, long of 1,200 mm, I already spent around 5 years to it (meantime I have however finalized two other shipmodels, a Spanish Caravel and an American Schooner). Please pay attention to the hull - a lot of sanding is required. Probably you should also consider to use an airbrush to paint it, in order to emulate the metallic surface. You should follow Davaoshipmodeller's channel, to see how he tackled this stage on Bismarck. And to answer to your poll - I would vote for white. Would be a nice tribute to Wolf. Yassas John!

    Hello John - whenever I see this model, I will always think of it as the Prinz Wolf. I've seen 2 other builds of this craft and you are certainly right - the level of detail is remarkable. I know you will do it justice.
    As far as the leds are concerned, I think I would go with a lower wattage white in the portholes in the hull and red up in the superstructure.
    Buddy will need some management training. He has some big shoes to fill!.
    On a different topic, do you have any idea what the new model being unveiled by Occre tomorrow is? It seems to be a sailing ship with additional engine power. In one of the "hint" photos, a propeller is displayed. I'm very curious

    • @JohnsWoodenShips
      @JohnsWoodenShips  2 года назад +1

      Hi James! Yes this one is a good one. Byddy needs a lot of training to become manager. The new ship looks like "le Pourquoi pas" a French ship. So we have a vote for white and red.

    Hello John, why don’t you use a combination of lights? I would use red for the areas of the combat stations, i.e. the open and closed bridges of the ship. For the other areas I would probably go with yellow lights. After all it was a ship of war and I don’t think they were to brightly lighted. Kind regards, Jason.

    Still on the Wood Deck Issue:
    Here's another example of a solution to the OCCRE Prinz Eugen wood deck SCALE PROBLEM arrived at by "John Builds Iconic Military Models:
    ruclips.net/video/RVKIYC9TSE4/видео.html
    He recognized the problem with the SCALE of the wood deck during his UnBoxing Video and the LINK above is his solution.
    It goes some way to address the problem but the wood decks of these ships had complex patterns - with edging and borders everywhere.
    I think this level of correct detail can only be addressed with laser etched wood veneer.
    It's surprising to me that OCCRE didn't pick up on this, especially on a new, premium priced kit!
    It makes this portion of the model seem 20 years out of date.

  • @S_MannMann
    @S_MannMann 2 года назад +1

    John, I've been checking on the issue with the SCALE of the wood plank decking.
    A comparison with the laser etched/cut glue-on veneer decking available for the 1-350 scale Trumpeter Prinz Eugen confirms my impression that the OCCRE wood decking as described (and shown) for this model is WAY OUT OF SCALE.
    Here's another example.
    Compare the decking supplied with the AMATI 1-200 Bismarck Kit. This is also a wood plank-on frame kit and AMATI supplies laser erched/cut veneer planking for their kit!
    See this video build video from Davaoshipmodeller -
    ruclips.net/video/YcoeTfbC1-8/видео.html
    Also...
    The laser etched/cut veneer planking supplied with the Pontos Detail-Up Kits for Trumpeter's 1-200 Bismarck are also in the correct scale!
    I think you need to consider how to correct for this OBVIOUS CARELESS OVERSIGHT in OCCRE's 1-200 Prinz Eugen!
    Since you're not going to start this build for some tilme, perhaps an "aftermarket" fix will become available!
    Regards to your "New Manager", Mr. Buddy!
