Lionel in my childhood is just nostalgia. I remember when Christmas came and all I'd watch are these types of vids, and beg my parents for a Santa Fe FT AA. Ah, good times...

You're so right! The problem with O gauge IS space. I've now collected 8 sets of MTH NYCTA subway sets and I was lucky enough to get one Lionel NYCTA subway R30 (the model that came after the R27 the green subway train in this video) train set, and I saw another yesterday on eBay, but of course, I'd see something that I want when I haven't the funds! I'm collecting with the intent on moving into a larger residence so that I CAN build a proper O-scale layout, so space IS the issue!
bhigdaddymark Mark, your on to something, ho is more space- friendly but O scale has that undeniable detail that ho just can't provide. Good luck on your new layout man! Peace!

O Gauge is just so much more realistic than HO or any of the other smaller gauges.

Look it is the UP 1988!
This is 3 rail O scale(1:48 scale) made by Lionel LLC. They don't use DCC they use Lionel's Legacy Control System(which I have!) and the older ones with Lionel's TMCC(which I have too!). I don't know about how well they are sold in the UK, but since Lionel is a USA company I doubt there is much of them over there. O scale like Lionel goes anywhere from $150 starter sets to $2000 Steam engines loaded with all kinds of features. The BigBoy costs around $1600, and most diesels cost around $300-800.

That's true. You can get the set in the NYC transit museum in Brooklyn or at Grand Central or at any local hobby shop. The only thing is that it might have a problem with the doors. It might not always open. When it comes to Lionel, they don't detail there sets like MTH.

Three Beat Slide used a Lionel train in their Christmas song "We Need Some Snow" which is pretty cool. It looks like one of the pre-war models but I'm not sure.

What happened was that back in 2007, UP had announced that they would no longer charge model railroad manufacturers copyright to use their markings on model trains.

Nice layout, nice detail but one problem if you can take a little constructive criticism. At 1:23 when the doors open up at the station (cool feature by the way), it's quite a "jump" for the poor people to have to make in order to get aboard! Shouldn't the station be elevated a bit to match the height of the opening doors or close to it?

You can find them cheap on eBay but I would not recommend the newer Lionel stuff, I prefer the old stuff but you can get whatever you like
If you like the good o gauge there is a Thomas the tank engine lionchief for 200. If you like batteries, they usually sell them for 50 to 100
They haven't done a DDA40X. MTH has done a DDA40X. The only they produced that is closest to a DDA40X is the DD35A.

What kinda layout should a rookie try out?
netsfan101 If you already have a train set try a 4x6 or a 4x8
(Here's the voice lines with subtitles. I may have made one or two mistakes, please let me know!)
(1) - Engine 4916, you are clear to head outbound. Get in the green. Over. / Ah, thank you dispatch. We are good to go. Engine 4916, out. / Engine 4916 here, train is in motion, heading outbound. Over. / 10-4. Over and out.
(2) - Dispatcher, Engine 900. Train is rolling. Over. / Roger that. Out.
(3) - Next stop: Stillman Avenue. Coney Island, last stop.
(4) - One-nine-eight-eight, stand by. Over. / Okay, 1988 out. / One-nine-eight-eight, you're good to go. Over. / Copy, one-nine-eight-eight is cleared outbound. / 1988 here. Is the main line clear? Over. / Yes, one-nine-eight-eight, you are cleared ahead. Over.

without a doubt the best train video ever, was all this done with DCC? what scale and how much does it all cost and where can I buy in the UK? Makes my garden railway look very sad and tame, love the opening doors and operating pantograph.

Why does th gg1 smoke? It is an electric locomotive.
Bradford Whitney back in the days of the gg1, it couldn't give electricity back to the catenary, so it released energy as exhaust.
Actually, it's the blow-off valve from the steam boiler used to heat the coaches

How do you get your Legacy engine to say its number?
You can't. Only visionline trains do that. They're to model trains what star wars is to movies.
Mommymilestones No, regular legacy engines also have crew talk. You just have to activate the feature on the legacy remote
Most if not all of these engines are J.L.C. (Joshua lionel cowen) series engines they say there own number as well as vision line.
