There is no perfect recipe. The quality of soil differs and we need the change the ratio. What i use is 1 part clay, 3 - 4 parts mud/sand, 1 part straw and little limestone. Every time we bring new load of soil we might add or reduce ingredients to get the good texture and bonding.
There is a organisation called Thannal in thiruvannamalai who are teaching mud house construction to everyone. There are two, three and ten day classes available. If you want to come and volunteer for building house you can learn like that also. Choice is yours.

I used cement because I couldn't convince my dad. You can use limestone instead of cement. If you have any aversion towards cement.
