LEARN HOW TO MAKE AN EASY AND QUICK VEGETARIAN PALAK TOFU RECIPE TODAY!
LAY HO MA (how's it going in Cantonese)! This is hands down one of the best ways to eat those greens! Join me in this episode and learn how to make an easy and quick spiced creamed spinach (palak tofu) recipe today!
    Ingredients:
    3 pieces garlic
    1 long green chili pepper
    1 onion
    1 medium piece ginger
    1 tomato
    350g extra firm tofu
    2 tbsp + 1 tsp avocado oil
    1 tsp cumin seeds
    1 tsp fennel seeds
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp turmeric
    2 tsp garam masala
    1 tsp ground coriander
    300g spinach
    1 cup coconut cream
    Directions:
    1. Roughly chop the garlic and long green chili pepper. Dice the onion, ginger, and tomato. Pat dry the extra firm tofu with a paper towel, then slice into bite sized cubes
    2. Heat up a sauté pan to medium heat. Add 2 tbsp avocado oil followed by the cumin seeds and fennel seeds. Fry the seeds for about 45 seconds. Add the onions, ginger, garlic, green chili, and salt. Sauté for 5-7mins. Add the turmeric, garam masala, and ground coriander. Give the pan a good stir
    3. Add the tomatoes and sauté for 3-4mins. Add a good handful of the spinach and stir to wilt them down. As the spinach wilts, add more spinach and repeat until all the spinach is done
    4. Add the coconut cream and give the pan a good stir. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend on medium for about 20 seconds (careful not to blend too high or it will turn into soup)
    5. Heat up the pan back to medium heat and add 1 tsp avocado oil followed by the extra firm tofu. Sear the tofu for a few minutes, then turn the heat off and allow the pan to cool for a minute. Pour in the creamed spinach and give the pan a good stir. Plate and serve with rice or naan (or both!)

You can make Palak paneer with far lesser steps.
Blanch spinach for 5-10 min, store that water, put spinach in ice cold water for 10 min post blanching . Then make puree, puree consistency is your own take on it.
In pan take oil , then some cumin till light crackle, I don’t like flavour of full crackle. You decide your take. Then put crushed garlic , cook it well , then add spinach purée in it , cook it. Now put diced paneer cubes in warm water for couple of minutes and then mix with spinach purée, cook for some time, add salt, chilly powder and initial water left from spinach blanching. Boil for sometime and it is ready. Add dried fenugreek leaves for added flavour.
It is light version and I prefer it more.

Wow Will! I just finished making this recipe. I've attempted making Palak a handful of times in the past and have no idea what I was doing wrong, because it was never anywhere close to being this good! All the spices just sing thru the mix in such a nice way. The tomatoes added just the right amount of tangy sweetness to the background, and the chili (I used Serrano), was just the perfect amount of warmth to leave you wanting more.
1 Change I had to make because I forgot to grab coconut cream, was I used regular coconut milk. To get the consistency (in a reasonable time), I took one of our 25.36oz containers of the coconut milk I had on hand and boiled/simmered it down until it looked like the consistency needed.

As a vegetarian I'm a big fan of the original Palak Paneer. And this is just as good!
I used the 365, (Whole Foods brand), firm tofu . As it's almost exactly the same texture of paneer.

Been making it this way for years. Paneer has more texture than flavor, so Tofu easily subs in and is virtually indistinguishable in the final plate. I cut the tofu block into planks about 3/4" thick and lay on baking sheet lined with tea towel, fold over top, place a 2nd sheet on top and weight down. Removing some of the excess water makes space to soak up more sauce.

I usually make saag/palak chana/chickpeas, but replacing the paneer w/ tofu is a great idea!

Love this recipe! I would suggest to use organic spinach however, because they spray greens heavily in many places. Best to grow yourself or purchase at Farmers' Markets or from farmers' themselves. Great recipe! Thanks!

I eat a LOT of tofu and am constantly looking for good recipes. I made this and it is really good. I had it with rice. I did freeze some, and it made it a bit more watery, but it was fine when I reheated it.

Wow, you certainly don't fail to amaze me. I love spinach and I love tofu. I would have never thought of combining those spices with spinach and tofu. Naan and white rice are some of my fave accompaniments so I'm looking forward to making this recipe of yours. Thanks for sharing!!

Great recipe. You are organized and cook clean. Coconut cream apparently also slows down discoloration of spinach. Retaining the luscious green color under heat had always been a little tricky.
