    Couple of things for non UK listeners. The Windrush generation helped build the UK again after WW2. They came from predominantly Caribbean countries at the invitation of the UK government. In 2018 many were threatened with deportation, denied legal rights, lost homes, lost jobs.
    Grenfell was a tower block in London that was destroyed by fire in 2017 killing 72 people. The fire was caused by dangerous cladding. Leslie Thomas QC who represents some of the families has repeatedly said, "Grenfell is inextricably linked with race..." It is worth a Google, same with Windrush.
    Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones (who was also pictured), were both killed in the London Bridge terror attacks. Jack and Saskia worked in prisoner rehabilitation. Jack worked with Dave's brother and he knew him well.
    Great reaction btw, thanks! The whole album Psychodrama is worth a listen.

      Grenfell was caused by a dodgy fridge not the cladding just the cladding didn't help the situations not the cladding suddenly burst into flame it was another fire spread to the cladding

      @@mickythemack4558 the disaster was caused by the cladding.
      Dodgy appliances start fires all the time. Multiple occupancy buuildings are supposed to be built to prevent fires from rapidly spreading between different compartments.

    As a mid 30 yr old white man from northern England. I’d never witnessed racism against the black community before and walked around in sort of a blind ignorance that it existed. This song awoke something in me, opened my eyes to the everyday injustices some people face. “We all struggle, but your struggle ain’t a struggle like me” - powerful. I think we can all concentrate on our own experiences and use it to think it’s comparable to others but this isn’t ever the case. I’ve watched 100s of reactions to this song because I love seeing it resonate with people. Dave has used music as the truly powerful instrument that it is and has completely changed my outlook on the world. I really enjoyed watching your reaction. Thank you.

    I’ve watched so many of these reaction vids and yours by far is one of my favourites. When this song was on the BRITs (I’m from England, UK), I sat and watched it live with my eyes wide and tears streaming down my face. It’s a fucking masterpiece. As a white female it makes me ashamed to be white. I was mesmerised watching this. The piano. The lyrics. As he said “we all struggled, but your struggle ain’t a struggle like me”. White privilege is fucking real and the more people wake up to black lives matter, not all lives matter, then that’s the bare fucking minimum that is needed, 1000000 steps still need to be taken. ❤️

I think its kind of sad that we have to have this whole movement that shouldn't be needed, we should all just get along. I know that's easier said than done and I always think to myself that there is no difference between what I black and I white person can do. So why do people try and degrade black people. We are all the human race. I have a lot of black friends and I dont see them any different to me. Its just unfortunate that they have a stereotype that the media and governments and law enforcements have given them and think they are all bad people. I think its the media that really tries to divide us all and I think it gets to some peoples heads which is unfortunate and they are the ones that end up as racists. Sorry if I said something that affects u, I'm just trying to get my point out but I'm not sure fully how to explain it. If u want another explanation just reply back

    Watching this live on telly gave me goosebumps. One of the most complained about moments in British history. It says a lot about British people.

    • @twatinahatsmith7428
      @twatinahatsmith7428 3 года назад

      Rather unfair to judge British people by the number of complaints made. I don't know how many called in to complain, but it would only be a small percentage of people and not representative of the British people on a whole. Every country has the same kind of people in some respect. Don't generalise a country for the action of a few.

    Jack Meritt helped dave and his family because daves brother was imprisoned for 18 years for a murder charge, he also advocated for rehabilitation he wanted to change the way the criminal system works. Sadly though he was killed along with the girl you see in the video in a terrorist attack on London Bridge.
