Welcome to our Dave Black Live at the Brits Reaction!!! This is our latest video reaction from our new music reaction channel Beer’s & Bars. Here we listen, react, and breakdown bars while enjoying some of our favorite beers. Today's mental journey was amazing as we took the flight to London to watch this amazing performance!! Dave touched on sooo much in regard to Black Culture everything from the start of history to what is currently being dealt with in today's society!! And if these powerful lyrics weren't enough he brings in an extraordinary band to play side by side with the emotion that is felt through this track!! Nothing short of AMAZING however what else could you expect from such an impactful artist like this?? Dave is one of the best that has touched this mic, looking forward to more!!!

Jack Merrit lost his life with Saskia Jones in the london bridge terror attacks. He was heavily involved in black justice and had helped Daves brother, which is where the connection between Jack and Daves family came from

Jack helped people from prison rehabilitate and start a new life etc after prison. He and saskia (the lady in the graphics om piano) was killed by a "rehabilitated" terrorist /ex convict in the London Bridge terror attacks. The uk lost 2 angels that day along with many more lives. The lives these 2 changed you can not count. Rip 🙏 🇬🇧

@@telmack7838 just to add onto what you said for the guys in the video - Jack championed rehabilitating people who had served time but was unfortunately killed by one of them in a terrorist attack. In the song, Dave specifically names the things Jack fought for (rehabilitation over prison time, funding for communities etc) because Dave was concerned that one fucked up terrorist might overshadow Jack’s message and result in policy that does the opposite of what Jack would’ve wanted.

The other pianist is Fraser T. Smith who worked producing Dave’s first album, well respected, the last verse was added it wasn’t on the original, as people have explained who Jack was his parents were in the audience and didn’t know Dave was going to do that tribute

@@BeersBars It was such a beautiful tribute.. his poor parents were overcome with emotion and gratitude for a verse being added in memory of his courageous actions! Separately you should look up what him & Saskia were doing for prison rehabilitation but most importantly saving lives in the terrorist attack .. which sadly ended their young and promising lives.. :(
As you said - Dave is something else!

Lots of good comments here. A couple of things that may get overlooked :
The animation on the top of the piano was an immense project. It was an incredibly complex process that involved coreographing the movement between the camera and the computers doing the display to give the 3D effect for the TV camera (but would have looked quite odd for the studio audience).
Towards the end he mentioned the Windrush Generation. This refers to a whole generation of immigrants (and their decendants) who were woefully let down by the British government. They were encourageed to migrate to the UK from the Caribbean after World War 2 (one of the first ships to arrive with migrants was called the Windrush), but were later subject to disgusting treatment, asked to justify their citizenship, and to produce documents that the government had failed to provide at the time. Many of the immigrants became vital workers: cleaners, drivers, nurses, and did so in the face of terrigble bigotry and oppression. They redefined what it meant to be British, they revitalised and diversified our culture, and the way they were treated is a absolute disgrace.

The guy on the piano with Dave is Fraser T Smith a producer/collaborator with Dave.
Jack Merritt (guy Dave pays tribute too) was a course coordinator who worked to rehabilitate prisoners, He was close to Dave and his family because Dave's brother was sent down for Murder. Jack was sadly killed in the London Bridge terror attack by one of the prisoners he was trying to rehabilitate (a convicted terrorist).

Dave has come so far as a person.
He wasn't perfect growing up but he has understood his responsibility and the perception that surrounds him. He is doing a wonderful job in using his platform Correctly.
He is not just a voice for the black community, he is people's voice.
I'm so proud to have grown up in the same neighbourhood has him and stormzy and to see them on the World stage is fantastic.
My favourite track by Dave is Starlight.

Dave, Wretch 32, Akala etc are showing that UK rappers are true poet’s who chose rap as their medium. I’m white but I’ve learned much more about black history and struggles from these guys than the the nonsense that the media put out for things like “black history month”
And when this was performed the UK Prime Minister was Boris Johnson and he is 100% a racist.

My mum and dad moved to uk from Ireland - pubs and shops signs said ‘no blacks, no Irish’ etc. If a crime committed all the blacks and Irish were rounded up (Birmingham 6 - spent 20 yrs in jail for being Trish) Know not the same but I have empathy - my accent meant I was thrown out of school, called terrorist (udf and ira), my dad had to change his accent to get a job etc. But we were white and so even though I found it tough, I can’t imagine how much worse it can be. I try. Uk has got better over last 15 years? And cops don’t have guns (except in the north of Ireland). I think from my American mates the gun issue and cops (apparently training is to short? Uk you have to train for about four times longer than USA? And armed officers have to train for a minimum of a year I think. My mates husband a cop and he qualified for armed response (like swat for terrorists) but he stepped down after 6 months as he thought no one should have a gun and he saw how errors could happen (or bad cops). Could this make USA tougher for minorities?

You guys HAVE to react to Akala and Lowkey. Two UK legends that will blow you away with their lyrics and knowledge.
Akala - fire in the booth part 1 to 4
Lowkey - Ghosts of Grenfell (Dave referenced Grenfell in Black. Grenfell was a tower block in London which was fitted with flammable cladding so the rich people across the road had something more aesthetically pleasing to look at. At least 72 people died when a fire broke out in the tower. All working class people, mostly 1st/2nd generation immigrants. It has been a few years and many are still yet to be rehomed or supported.)
Lowkey - Ahmed/Terrorist?/Obamanation/Fire in the booth part 1&2.
Honestly, you will not regret it. They are levels above.

Dave used to make money scamming banks hence the name, he’s even said before hes “ashamed of how he used to get figures”. Dave is himself and is a great example for all young children but Jesus was meant to be a wholly virtuous being with no blemishes which cant be said about Dave. On 14 June 2017, a high-rise fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in Latimer West London it was mostly minorities and immigrants that lived in it because the safety code was not up the par using cheap materials they cut corners, some had to jump out of the building and many died many was made homeless and are still homeless. Kensington and Chelsea borough Council and Government was exposed. The Windrush Generation that Dave spoke about was People arriving in the UK between 1948 and 1971 from Caribbean countries have been labelled the Windrush generation. They faced tremendous racism but made significant contributions to England building up the country going to war for Queen and Country and Winston Churchill during the rivers of blood speech by Enoch Powell (research this nuttah) we are the children of those immigrants. From what I have seen, compared to other European nations, if you use racist language you will get a smack (happened to my mate). My dad and uncle had their cars burnt out in the 70s in racially motivated attacks, and we've seen other racism over the years but of late the Indian community has been doing well and persevered through it all. not sure anyone else has mentioned it, but in the end verse Dave also mentions 'Grenfell victims still need accommodation'
Grenfell was a tower of social housing in the UK for poor people and migrants which burnt down in 2017 due to poor construction, and killed many of the residents, and the conservative government never really apologised, took accountability or really cared about the families of the victims. I think there's also a Stormzy live at the BRITS or BET award performance where he also mentions this in a verse.

I've watched a few of your UK reactions this morning and I think you guys should check out 'Ren', he's a long standing artist that is exploding on the reaction scene at the moment. Start with 'Hi Ren' then move onto things like 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)' and then deep dive his over videos. Such a talented artist, singer, rapper, performer, all of the above at once.

Its not just blacks being discriminated against by police, just men/ teenage boys in total.

  • @natashafletcher600

UK police mentality is to judge a person based on appearance first.
Naturally; inner city youths have fairly specific fashion trends.
So with many (not most) inner city youths turning to crime
(I believe this to be a result of poverty and lack of positive opportunity),
the police associate any young black man with a nice fit to be carrying something they shouldn't.
I mean... shit. Everyone needs to dress like Carlton to survive the police, and like Stormzy to survive the street.

As a black man/women. We still deal with racism, bigotry and stereotypes, at the hands of the police and judicial system, whether your in the UK or USA, it's called the black experiences. And of course in the UK, we know and can see what goes on in America, regarding race and inequality. George Floydd, Trevon Martin, Bryana Taylor.

Yep. Extra information on some of the things he said..The reason why he said the prime minister was racist was because she introduced a policy a 'hostile environment' immigration policy that deliberately targetted black and brown people. Jack Merrit was a charity work who was murdered by a terrorist going on a stabbing spree on London Bridge. Grenfell was a tower block which caught on fire killing 72 people. They complained for years prior and were ignored. The cladding was the cheapest possible and was combustible. Last, the Windrush were people from the Caribbean who were invited in the 50's to help the Motherland. Alot of their children didn't have citizenship although they were born in the UK or brought there as children. Under the hostile environment policy, they were sent back.

@@BeersBars All good but I will subscribe. Last couple of things from your discussions. First, the African-American line was directed to the people who believe that the only black people and culture in America. It goes way deeper and isnt the same. Second, if you look at the figures of relations with black people and tge state from Europe to the Americas. The relationship with the police and legal systems are always toxic.
