Some things you may not have got is his mum is a first gen immigrant from Nigeria so he literally has cousins in Africa rather than ancestors, Clarkes is a shop in the UK, 'P's' means money as in pounds (I used to let disrespect slide to make P's, just make peace), PPI (payment protection insurance) was a massive scam perpetrated by banks and retailers over here. Travolta and Tarantino he's referring to the fact Quentin Tarantino always uses a broken timeline in his films (Dave is a big fan of film and apparently the famous film composer Hans Zimmer suggested the title to his album 'We are all alone in this together'. Catty - Woman. X-5 BMW. Jezzy - slut. Cypher - he is referring to the Black Box cypher he did when he was 16 that got him attention (it's on RUclips), Pump - shotgun. Football (soccer) related bars are also a feature of UK rap. Neek - combination or nerd and geek generally used as an insult.

Amazing reaction guys, i must say as someone from the uk, alot of our rappers are doing it: dave, kano, stormzy, skepta - i think the issue for the US viewers, is the slang and the accent are probs hard for you guys so you miss alot of it, whereas US rappers seem to have that universal sound so we all catch it😂 much love though, dave is THE man

i think what i get from dave, that i don’t get from a lot of other artists, is listening to dave you feel like you’re getting the experience of an entire person. a lot of rappers are very much “i do this and if you don’t like it, then you won’t like me” but dave isn’t confined to anything specific, and i truly believe if he was in america he would be the biggest out. there just isn’t much translation across the pond and it’s a shame.
Great breakdown of who Dave is and what makes him great! If Dave were in America right now I think he might be a little bigger but right now most people just want club music so he would probably still be somewhat unknown at least for his talent level! 🍻
@@BeersBars i agree the uk has a lot more bar heavy rappers right now so dave gets recognised for it and appreciated where as american artists is just music to get lit too, obviously the lil waynes and the j cole’s exist but what people want right now isn’t lyrical just vibes

His father was deported back to Nigeria when he was a baby & both his older brothers went to jail, one is still in there for being involved in a school fight which ended in a knife murder. His Mother held down several jobs to survive, bought Dave a piano & a dictionary to keep him away from any outside influences. Dave is a genius, no doubt about it. Imagine being able to write & perform that at just 19 yrs old!
America hasn't fully opened up on the media front to him, in fact to any of our rappers who have incredible pens & music skills - its an interesting discussion as to why when they have to other genres.
I think you guys need to check out North London's Little Simz too, her last album 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert' is a masterpiece - her track 'I Love You, I Hate You' about her absent father is incredible & 'Introvert' is exceptional!!! She also stars in Top Boy, like Dave, acting talent to boot! Great channel - subbed. Peace up from London.

Powerleague is a pay as you play football league that is in the UK especially around London. Norbury is an area of London. A jezzy is slang for a prostitute/girl who sleeps around and an 8520 is a blackberry.
