  • @travis5729
    @travis5729 4 года назад +5

    One of the big advantages of the 6.2 is it usually comes with the max towing package which comes with much lower gear ratios so it really helps acceleration getting up to 60mph. My 6.2 won't hook up at all if I launch in 2wd no matter what (at sea level), but in 4hi I can turn off traction control, stubilitrack, and brake reving to a few thousand rpm and hook up no problem. Easily gets from 0 to 60 in the just over 5 seconds. I switch back into 2hi at about 45mph but I don't know if that really helps at all, or if it is even able to switch back that fast under load. I've only done a couple times and wouldn't do it again though... I don't think any light duty pickup truck is really built for those kinds of forces, and I'd rather not find out...

    I found it pretty amazing that the 3L GM diesel truck was almost as fast, I mean to the point where it would come down to the driver, as the exhaust modded Ford 7.3 that high above sea level. That's pretty incredible when you think about it, especially considering the severe difference in fuel consumption.

    • @LESLASLESLAS
      @LESLASLESLAS Год назад

      It’s really not that amazing. The 7.3 Ford was a gasser motor, not a power stroke. The massive power to weight ratio was the real killer here. Put a 10,000lb trailer on them and do the test again. Also, just so there’s no confusion, I am by no means a Ford guy, but this comparison is a little out there. I know it’s just fun, but something about apples and oranges.

    I own a 2014 Chevy Silverado LTZ/4x4 with the 5.3L. Been a great truck. Did a Diablo canned tune on it last summer. It eliminated the "4-cylinder mode", improved shift points, speed limiter deactivation, and "91 performance tune". I have no way of knowing how much more power it has. But, driving it is a blast now. The tires break loose, pedal feel is instant, and it "roars" more (if that makes any sense). Prob still won't win a drag race with the 6.2L, but sure feels uncorked with this canned tune (and more fun!). If I ever sell it, I would def get the 6.2L. The thing people seem to overlook about the 5.3 is that on the highway in my experience you can easily get over 30 mpg. I've owned two of them so far, and I'm willing to sacrifice a few ponies for the fact that it's still a pleasure to drive, and I haven't seen any truck that can achieve the mileage numbers the 5.3, at least the ones I own can achieve.

It really depends on your driving style, (I drive like an old lady) and luck of the draw on the truck itself. My work pickup is a 2014 Silverado, and even on long trips the best it ever achieved was about 23 mpg. The diesel got only a slightly better launch. Probably helped by the turbo and the 1500 rpm peak torque. The 6.2 had to wind up before it came to life. @@johnb3231 so far I am very happy with it. I’ve had it about a year and a half, but having a short commute and the Covid lock down it only has a little over 16,000 miles on it. My average mileage since new is 21.86MPG, that is mostly city driving. Highway at the speed I like to travel I get between 26 and 28 MPG. On 55 MPH two lanes without a lot of stop and go, I get just over 30. Mine is 4X4 BTW. Towing my 20’ travel trailer at around 6000lbs I get between 11 and 12.5 on the highway here in relatively flat Michigan. (70 ish MPH) With the 3.0L, 10 speed combo there is little to no noticeable turbo lag off the line. My prior truck was a 2015 with the 6.2L. In comparison it only got 13 mpg city 20 hwy and about 10 towing the same trailer. The only thing it did a little better while towing was foot to the floor acceleration on on ramps. The diesel is not a dog on the on-ramps but the 6.2L spoiled me in that regard. It is my daily driver and it workes great for that. The DEF seams to last a very long time during daily light load driving but it goes rather quick while towing. I normally take extra DEF with me on my camping trips.
      I hope this helped. Best of luck with your purchase. I hope you don’t have to wait too long for delivery.

      First.....there is absolutely No doubt GM builds GREAT LS engines...old school "push rod" V8 OHV design!!!
      The Chevrolet Trail Boss and GMC AT4 with the itty bitty little tires are PATHETIC examples of a 4WD truck. Installing a high lift for large tires to clear the wheel well increases the "center of gravity!" There is no question larger tires can and do improve the off-road capability and prowess of a 4WD truck. However, a MODERATE lift is much preferred over a HIGH lift...with the exception of a 4WD truck being used in high water. Moreover......for several years, GM engineers have been playing with the "proverbial round peg in a square hole" by placing a round rim and tire in a square / rectangle wheel well. This greatly inhibits / prevents the installation of larger / taller tires with a MODERATE amount of lift.....which is not the case with Ford and Dodge 4WD trucks.
      The GM engineers do not have a clue on how to build a great 4WD Class 2 (2500) and Class 3 (3500) trucks. The Chevrolet and GMC 4WD trucks with IFS axle have very poor axle articulation resulting in inadequate wheel travel + low hanging frames with poor "breakover angle" = stuck truck.....due to no front tire traction and "high center" on uneven terrain in mud and snow off-road. Check out the Chevrolet Jackal...AND a regular Ford F-150 with 5.0L V8 at ------->
      PaxPower ( V8Raptor.com ). I prefer the regular Ford F-150 body with 5.0L V8 and either factory Raptor suspension.....OR...the better Icon aftermarket "Raptor style replacement" suspension and Whipple Supercharger...A Ford F-150 4WD incognito....." a wolf in sheep's clothing!!!"

    If you had the 6.2 in the offroad Silverado and the 5.3 in the much lighter other chevy with smaller tires they would probably be comparable. So far we are not getting any true information on the actual engines because the pickups are all equipped so differently.

    Should've brought Kent's F-150 Ecoboost that would've whipped em all!

      Cory Dean a stock F-150 3.5 Ecoboost with a tune on 93 gas is good for a 4.6 second 0-60. Use E50 and it drops to under 4 seconds. E85 tune with an upgraded fuel pump (everything still stock) will run a 11.60 quarter mile.

      I thought we were assuming everything was stock like in this video guy. Of course if you start tuning everything it changes. Yeah man if you bring in my 5.3 with the new cam I put in it and yaddda yadda it will beat everything here. What a joker

      Cory Dean it’s already proved the stock Ecoboost is the quickest though. Also, keeping everything stock (no mechanical changes) with just a tune the Ecoboost is leaps ahead followed by the 6.2.

    When is GM putting that 3.0L diesel into the Colorado instead of the 2.8L? It's not like it wouldn't fit in the engine bay, it's not much bigger and the Colorado doesn't have a small engine bay.

    Should’ve brought an F150 EcoBoost 3.5 to race. I think that’s one of the quickest trucks you guys tested if memory serves me right.

    That 6.2 vs a limited 3.5 high output

    I Loved The 6.2L Big Boy V8 & The 3.0L Duramax Turbo I6 Diesel Both From GM, Because The 5.3L Small Boy V8 The 3.6L Pentastar V6 The 3.0L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel & EcoDiesel Are Slow. But Those 2 Large Motors I Loved They Compared To The 3 EcoBoost Motors & 5.0L Coyote V8 From Ford F-150 & The 5.7L HEMI V8 From Ram 1500 Which Are Fast.The 7.3L Godzilla V8 Is A Good Towing Truck.
