- Explore how your immune system’s vast network of cells, tissues, and organs coordinate your body’s defenses against bacteria, viruses and toxins.
--
The immune system is a vast network of cells, tissues, and organs that coordinate your body’s defenses against any threats to your health. Without it, you’d be exposed to billions of bacteria, viruses, and toxins that could make something as minor as a paper cut or a seasonal cold fatal. So how does it work? Emma Bryce takes you inside the body to find out.

Addison Anderson.. I just love the way you narrate. 👍👍👍👍👍
I do owe my immune system my life, but I'm one of those unlucky people with an autoimmune condition. I owe research on the immune system my continued stability more than I owe it to my immune system. I owe science and continued funding on autoimmune research my future, as we don't know much, but we know enough to keep people with autoimmune conditions protected to a point. Most of all I am thankful to the people who vaccinate and are able to create herd immunity that builds an extra immune system outside of my own, because they are the reason my immune system has not yet been triggered to cause another seriously harmful attack on my own body. Thank you TED-Ed for continuing to help educate people, and for spreading the knowledge and awareness on public health issues.
Which autoimmune disease do you have?
Multiple Sclerosis
That's an annoying one. Comes an goes as it pleases doesn't it? Is it mostly sensory, or motor?
It's more sensory now that I'm in remission, although while I was mid relapse it was a mix of both sensory and motor.
i literally cried watching this in amazement by how much our body truly does for us and we tend to take that for granted...me included. this was inspirational and emotional

Amazing channel! How fascinanting is see how our immune system works. It was easily and helpul to understand, I feel that I could spend my whole day watching these videos!
Thank you, Immune System!
How does HIV/AIDS destroy the immune system? Thanks for those who answers.
Lix Autofix if I'm not mistaken, the HIV attacks exactly those T-cells mentioned in the video, stopping them from producing antibodies
They bind on specific clusters of differentiation on T helper cells so that the cell count of these decrease rapidly in an active phase of the disease. T helper cells are involved in recognition of antigens and activation of the other components of the humoral immune system, without them the entire adaptive immune system collapses leading to the Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome we know as AIDS
This is why I became an immunologist! I love this stuff so much!
The ultimate video for understanding immune system. Just the best video.

It a great video, but Kurzgesagt video regarding the same topic is way better.
Might be useful in school so pupils have two options to choose from.
This is a little simpler and easier to understand, so I think both videos are equal.
Kurzgesagt's videos make me fall asleep. At least TedEd keeps me engaged.

Ted-ed has a much bigger team, however, so more high quality videos.

i know a close family person who gets respiratory infections every two months! Its so frustrating. The person is allergic to dust but I think its not dust thats the problem but viruses from other people which infect the weakend respiratory parts. Mucus, high temperature, awful cough,...EVERY TWO MONTHS! whats going on here?
i would recommend isolation, probiotics, getting a GOOD water filter, regular exercise, limited emf exposure etc. if they go to the doctor, usually the only thing they'll recommend is antibiotics which wipes out the immune system altogether. i'm not saying dont go to the doctor, but look at alternative medicinal practices outside of the MD/DO spectrum and see if they need to go a different route or if multiple forms of medicine can work together to bring healing.
i was getting frequent migraines and felt tired all the time. my MD told me my levels were "normal" but wanted to throw a prescription at me, which after a while i took for a couple months until i got acclimated and it made me sick. then i went to a holistic physician that diagnosed me with heavy metal toxicity, a fungal infection, and a parasitic infection. it's taken almost a year to get my body to a place where it feels "good" but it's much better than the way i had been suffering for almost 15 years.
For a day or 2 I remember all the important facts & info regarding each video. After that I go blank
These are supposed to be general knowledge videos, there're hundreds of Ted-Ed videos that focus on a wide range of topics, you shouldn't worry too much if you can't remember everything. It's only important that you understand the gist of it. However, if you are interested in a particular subject try using proper learning tools that cover the subject in more detail.
+Sahil Haridas - of course. I don't watch these videos and then say I'm an expert. Some videos I know some things and then the video has more detail for me to remember which I do. This video, I have no idea on all the names of the cells and stuff. Makes for a read before I sleep.
Oh yeah of course. I find myself doing that sometimes and just feel overwhelmed with how many things there are to learn, its just too much
+Sahil Haridas - the more we learn, the more we exercise our brain and it could help with health as we age. I sure need it seeing that I'm creepy up into old age
haha that's very true. I think lifelong learning is amazing, it gives different perspectives on everything. I'm in grade 12 this year and I'm just trying to watch as many educational videos so I won't be incompetent.
Awesome, Hats off to Animation Team, Great Work in Educating, Thanks
