Starting my first dump truck job next week after 27 years of fridges and vans. Been warned the loads are stinky but always wanted to give it a go so willing to put up with that. love the boston trucker channel keep up the good work.
I did airfreight for 3 years when I started. Just hated going to warehouses. Long lines, slow loading/unloading. Now driving end dumps 20 years best job in the world. Asphalt, water breaks, move equipment local union job Great pay. Nice channel Boston trucker. We have a heavy equipment operator from Boston out here in California. Very smooth operator and very respectable kid. Makes your job much better when you work with good people
I was lucky enough to know somebody that would give me a chance. I played drums for the owners son’s band and he (the owner) has met me several times. I applied twice and because of my lack of experience, I didn’t get the job until a year later. My time there was filled with amazing experiences and lessons. I quit the dump truck/lowboy game and I pull reefer for a local company who treats me very well now. I’ll always be grateful with the experience hauling the heavy weight and really learning how to utilize my truck. Those skills stick with me still.
Awesome video driver. I've been in love with trucking since I was about 4 years old. I'm 36 now and been driving for 5 years now. I've always been a Kenworth fan. I'm from Stockton, California. The birth place of the CAT Company. Also, Peterbilt started in Oakland, California back in 1939 building smaller trucks. 1940 was their first year building larger trucks and they sold those trucks to a company here in Stockton. Peterbilt had their 75th Anniversary truck show here in Stockton because of their connection with us. That was back in October 25-26, 2014. It was 4 days after my birthday and 4 days before I started truck school. I'm humbled with my interesting connection to this beautiful lifestyle. Stay safe out there driver.
Hey TBT, inspiring story man, my love for trucks started from my birthday in 2005 where i sat in a t600 dumptruck which had in a big cam 400 cummins and ever since then i got in to it more. 2009 & 2010 was the time i got to work down at the local quarry for 2 weeks straight for work experience (since airport was always full) to gain experience, got to worked with the same company for 4 months straight until i was told i couldnt anymore and insurance reasons and it broke me and i spent 2 years working at low paying jobs which made me miserable every single day and didnt want to be there and every single would watch trucks go by wishing I was there. Feb 2016 i got laided off, very next day im on the east northern side of the island in a bulldozer pushing material down and that brief moment i was beyond happy and saying i'm making progress. Continued to work but sadly the pay was very low than what my other jobs were and despite loving it i couldnt do much for me or my gf and the discouragement kept at me and sadly I got let go from the job on my birthday, kid you not, it was on my birthday i received the termination letter(they never knew it was my birthday until i mentioned it and felt really awful) but i still kept my love at it and still go by the company to see how everyone is doing. 2018 a few days after my birthday I got my business license locally here in Grand Cayman and kept trying to purchase a truck but no help with the bank i never got any help and kinded of gave up a bit. April this yeah i happen to be with my buddy going for a drive and just driving by looking out the window i saw this truck which was covered in bush and i yell "fam stop deh!" And got out in amazed saying "no way!" It was a 1975 KW w900A dump truck and the frame was in good shape and the cabin needed work and i asked the owner which happen to be a real cool guy i went to school with, it was in father yard and i kept asking how much and he said to bring $2500, got the money and April 24th, 2020 i was a truck owner. It has work to be done to it but i will be soon posting videos with it once i get it relocated to my yard (havent moved yet since covid-19 has the island on lockdown)
Ive thought alot about doing what you said. But I'm kind of the quiet, private kid that always sits in the back. I do enjoy hearing stories from other people. Its always fun to watch the expression on peoples faces when they hear that I do Construction, trucking and dairy farming for a living. But I went to school and majored in music with the Pipe Organ. Just goes to show that you can't always judge a book by its cover.
Dump truck since day one of getting my cdl and is being a nice time. Wouldn’t do anything else in the trucking industry. The hours and home time is the best
I’m 32 years old. Always operated heavy equipment. Dozers, trackhoes wheel loaders etc. I’ve always worked for my dads dirt business. Recently got my CDL’s. Bee in rather a Rd model 2003 Mack or a 2004 Mack Vision. Hauling a lot of wash-gravel & limestone lately. Spreading onto customer’s driveways mostly. Although relating to you & your story I never thought I’d be in a truck, always on a piece of equipment. Change is good. Enjoyed your story man. Stay safe friend
I started hauling end dump with my own truck in August. Something about it sticks with you. We've been slow this winter but I'm sticking around for the busy season.
thanks for the inspiration, just bought my first daycab and dump trailer. Currently I have a desk job and working on building a 'buy the yard' (mulch rock, sand) business.
True words BostonTrucker. Got to start some where, finding work by going to door to door looking. That is real job hunting is about back then. No internet stuff, just face to face. Then getting to dump, you will have to get your lumps ins before you get better at the job. Something with OTR, you will not know anything from the start but after a while on the job you will get the hang of it. If you can get tips from another truck driver on the experience. It will help in the long run. You can't get be a pro in a day, it takes years. Ending credits, great picture of the company trucks you driven. Keep on doing what you do.
Happy new year. Cool pictures. I started in 2000 hauling chemicals for langer transportation in Jersey City, NJ in an old r model make with those giant steering wheels. Then delivering gas locally for the next thirteen years. Only drove freight liners. Really like the KW’S you drive.
Always wanted to try dump but never have , I've hauled trash 100k that was a learning experience for sure, now I'm running an oil truck residential, thanks for sharing your videos
I love dump trailer. I first learned from a local gravel company in 2016 driving a 2005 peterbilt 379 with frameless dump trailers. Now I'm looking into buying my own truck and trailer.

Just discovered your channel. Appreciate the videos you make. I'm also in MA. Been driving vans and doubles local for about 6 years. Looking to switch to a regional job and found a good opportunity at Goulet Trucking out of South Deerfield, MA. You know anything about them? I go for a road test in a week. Excited but nervous! Never pulled an end dump before or anything above 80k gross.

Really enjoy your videos! I've drove dump trucks and run equipment all of my life in Titusville, Pa. It's a great job! I love Gloucester. We used to go fishing on the Yankee Fleet there. Ate a lot of meals at The Gull restaurant and a couple other places on Rocky Neck Avenue. Well anyway, keep the videos coming and keep taking pride in your ride!
Exactly, I clock out at 1530, normally start at 0530. Not the best union, but overall the job is good. 2004 Peterbilt, and a Spectec box on a Freuhauf frame, 22 wheeler. Basically blue stone, concrete sand, RCA, and broken concrete.
you take a lot of pride in your trade I respect you for that your lucky that the people you drive for operate such premium equipment I did it for one season and it was so crude and tortureous on the equipment that the fancy rig you got would look 20 years old after 2 seasons we ran r-model macks and ford 9000s and gmc 9500s
I was just wondering how you made the move to dump trailers. Lol I've dumped some corn with a straight truck and man, it makes me nervous! All those videos of trucks flopping over. I pull tanker, love hauling liquid fertilizer. Lots of facilities are unattended self load. In and out under 20min. And the reciever is usually desperate to receive it and get it out in the field. 👍
First semi I got paid to drive was an old Mack dump truck hauling grain for a farmer. For those who really want to get into heavy equipment or trucking and don't mind hard work farms are great places to start. I didn't even need a CDL.
Norridgewock Maine, oh God that place is like the end of the Earth. I haven't been there for close to twenty years I guess maybe 15 years I'm not sure. Back when I went there we had to carry some kind of cell phones that were both digital and analog. I think you could only get them from Bell Atlantic. If I remember right our regular digital cell phones lost service about a hundred miles before we got to norridgewock
Went from OTR to Oilfield. Oilfield to Regional with better pay. Regional to Beer Hauling. Now I’m hauling propane gaining experience and my dream is to haul fuel.
Hi, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Very interesting story. I too am a driver(retired now due to illness) So I can relate. I love driving trucks. Really love it. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your videos in the future. Have a great new year, and stay safe and take care of yourself friend.
Those kind of companies, you just gotta hire on whatever position they’ll hire you on for and try to work your way up. I worked for a company who did heavy haul work and I really wanted to get into it, it took me a year and a half of driving tandem dumps, trailer dumps, pouring concrete and doing carpentry work before I got to pull my first lowboy. As you most likely know, heavy haul is a very risky thing to do business wise. The owner isn’t going to let just any truck driver do it, they’re going to let the people who are dead set on it for a good while do it. That’s only if they don’t have other people hired on before then. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, dedication and a little bit of luck to fall into that trade. All in all, It was worth it but I pull reefers now. So it might not even be what you’re looking for, but it might be who knows? Good luck to you man.
@@TheColbles2009 I started with dryvan then moved up to flatbed for the last year and only got to haul a few Geni Cranes. Been hauling steel now in Colorado for about 3 months. Absolutely loving it. Hoping that getts me closer to then lowboys and dropdecks.

Brings me back to my dump trucking days. I usually hauled sand & stone to asphalt & concrete plants I worked for, as well as paving , & a few hauling rock & dirt off & on construction sites.

I started off driving a concrete truck now I'm trying to get into the dump trucking industry most companies that I apply for want some dump truck experience I'm not going to give up I'm going to keep trying
Dump trucking is definitely the best kind of trucking 👌🏻… long hauls sucks ass. If I ever went back to trucking though I’d like to try heavy haul low bed, that looks cool.
Hey Boston trucker! Great info! I am attending NETTTS now and will be done in January 2021 how do I as a newbie get into dump trucking right from jump out of school? I have two little kids at home and even doing regional the wife isn’t too happy about. Thanks for sharing your experience.
It's hard to get into dump trucking without experience but that goes for most jobs. How do you get experience? Start knocking on doors, go door to door. Find a place maybe that needs snow plow help and has dump trucks. Look for a landscape company or paving company except they're seasonal but maybe you can start as a laborer and then when you get your license you move into a truck. Your wife is right, regional is not a good option especially for having two kids and neither is over the road. If you ever find yourself heading down that road you contact me and I'll try and talk you out of it. Good luck!
I’m dump truck driver from NH I work for a town I plow snow I’m 5 miles from my bed that I can’t lay in plow snow haul snow do it all even fill in at the dump on the job 23years.have u hauled bark mulch out PR Russell in Brentwood Nh
I know guys that deliver fuel to gas stations make a decent living. Hours suck, unless you like graveyard shift, but you are home every night. Had a buddy delivering fuel in east TN for Pilot making really good $$$$ but then the pandemic hit, nobody traveling, nobody buying gas/diesel, ended up laid off. Picked up another job doing local LTL freight but took a $15,000 haircut.
I’m thinking to buy a dump truck I’m here in the Atlanta area it’s growing and I wanted you’re thought on buying a truck around the time the market crashing do you thing this will be an great idea ?
I think it's going to be a buyer's market soon. You can never count on work but if you're got good connections, good at mechanics and business, have a nest egg saved then go for it.
@@TheBostonTrucker a friends of mine Herb Ward and Bob Gott drove for New Century. Herb drove until 2004 and thats when cancer got the best of him. Bob I think left there aroumd 2005. John was at Herbs daughters wedding and that's how I met him. John wanted me to drive for them but I was already running for a place I really liked.
I have to speak from experience. I have had Kenworth and I will never own another one again the parts on the truck just because it’s a Kenworth are extremely overpriced a cruise control switch for example $134. right now I own a Freightliner Columbia and I have had had no issues and is much cheaper to maintain.
Dumptrucks make over $1k a day as a truck owner or small fleet. $134 bucks for a part is nothing if your operating your business right. Even a rebuilt transmission should be stress free when the time comes. The truck pays you right back for it.
I have a class a I drove OTR for 1 year. I hated it. I current drive a cement truck working 70hrs a week. I make good money but I want to buy a dump truck and be a O.O. cement trucks are ok but I rather drive a dump truck. How do I find loads if I buy a dump truck?
All of the cement plants and Hot Asphalt plants need raw material hauled in. Around here, the Hot Plants pay $95 an hour for 10 wheel dumps to go paving. LOTS of wait time, at the plant then on the job, but you still get paid the rate to sit. General Contractors will rent dump trucks for big jobs. Look around, lots of opportunities out there...
After watching you work for Cardillo for a while, I left the scrap haul and took a job with an excavating contractor similar to yours. This is God's truth: 8:44. Now keep it quiet! 🤫

Never give up! Go door to door and you'll get in eventually.
@@TheBostonTrucker thanks for the advice I really do appreciate it
Dump trucking is definitely the best kind of trucking 👌🏻… long hauls sucks ass. If I ever went back to trucking though I’d like to try heavy haul low bed, that looks cool.
I do enjoy it that's for sure!
Awesome video you inspire me
Love you brother. Real dude
Thank you Jack!

Good luck!
TheBostonTrucker thank you sir! Keep up the good work and great videos!
Loved the origin story!
Thank you
I’m dump truck driver from NH I work for a town I plow snow I’m 5 miles from my bed that I can’t lay in plow snow haul snow do it all even fill in at the dump on the job 23years.have u hauled bark mulch out PR Russell in Brentwood Nh
Thank You.
I'm surprised you didn't get your own authority at this point
I’m buying my first dump trailer trying to find a trailer that i can haul pretty much everything any advice?
They got a lot for sale in Australia
Marjorie Moore trucks?
Great videos ! Great story !
Are you doing 100,000 as a dump truck driver ?
You own your truck ?
Or drive a company truck ?
Thanks
Thanks Mike
Great video 👍
Thank you
I’m thinking to buy a dump truck I’m here in the Atlanta area it’s growing and I wanted you’re thought on buying a truck around the time the market crashing do you thing this will be an great idea ?
I think it's going to be a buyer's market soon. You can never count on work but if you're got good connections, good at mechanics and business, have a nest egg saved then go for it.
So what your saying is i should get my CDL
I didn't know Tom Arnold had a brother.
Nice trucks
Thank you 😊
Never thought of doing any long haul?😎
Me? Did 20 years of long haul.
Good morning, do you recommend Teamster membership for 1 truck owner operator
No
Rather haul Gas and Diesel with Tanker. HazMat
Can I drive a dump truck with my class B? I'm in California
Only one that doesn't bend in the middle.
You worked for New Century. Did you know John Zimmerman the recruiter?
Yes I knew John.
@@TheBostonTrucker Small world isn't it. Thats cool. Be safe boss.
@@Pretzel114 How do you know John?
Good money is key dude but so is happiness.

Thank you 🤫

I thought this was your company...
Just a driver.
We have a 107,000 Permit, so I can only take on 32 tons, due to a 42,820 empty weight. Can't get much done with that.
My empty is 37k and haul 31 to 32 tons
