    Id go ahead and get the full 11mm studs right off the bat for the motor, few of my friends who have built their engines all had head lift at high PSI, same issue as yours and had less issue with them. Also might not be a terrible idea to do the closed deck conversion, not as expensive as it used to be! BTW my car is still a ripper with your old kit!

    • @941garage
      @941garage  10 месяцев назад +3

      Your 100% right, 11mm all around is the way to go. I’m still reviewing my option but closed deck and 11mm will be on the list.

      Yep mine has those bags to machine the block for it

  • @connorclark574

    I feel like maybe some fluid got in the stud bore and hydrolocked when the stud was torqued down, which cracked the block.

    • @941garage
      @941garage  7 месяцев назад +2

      Unfortunately that was not the case, i cleaned and blew out all the threads with break cleaner and compressed air. I guess the block was just to stressed out because it’s been torqued down to 100ftlbs a few times.

  • @BIGBOOSTPREET
    @BIGBOOSTPREET 7 месяцев назад

    Timesert the outer four and run 11mm outer with Athena cutring head gasket 85ftlb and retorque to. 85ft lbs after break in never had an issue

    Wonder if you had a little oil in that stud hole, or maybe used too much arp lube on the stud. I have seen people crack Cummins blocks with ARP 625s this way, and they are thick ass cast iron. From the video that one hole has oil around the stud and no other stud does. Good video, and sucks about the block.

    u torquing the studs down in general, arp says snug them down your're only supposed to torque the nuts on the studs, 30-60-95

    That’s such a bummer not criticizing but something to watch out for and I’m sure you do but fluid in the head bolt threads will crack the block like that to I had it happen to me on a Toyota good to see you got it going again my N54 cracked a piston today did you have the motor blueprinted or balanced when you built it just curious thinking about building mine it’s single turbo and this is my 2nd motor😂

    I’d have 13 stripped bolts every clip would be held on my the strength on Zeus .. and all the bolts would be torqued to 9793958nm.. and you managed to get this out in a hour…

    Ah so you are the one from the spoolstreet post about JB weld the block.
    100 ft pounds was way too much.
    85-90max.
    And the oil squirter broke during the first crank probably 😂.
    Nevertheless I like the content you make!

    • @941garage
      @941garage  10 месяцев назад +1

      That wasn’t me lol but atleast someone else tried. Yes I agree 100ft lbs is way too much. I tried to compensate for the 9mm studs. But hey it worked the first time but I guess torquing the head a second time caused it to crack.

  • @slk1771

    I don't think you cracked it from torquing to spec. Forces in all directions under load exceed the torque spec a few times over. The bolts are probably too rigid. You need a bit of play similar to the block and head material especially running that much boost. My guess is that the head slightly lifted and instead of the bolts yielding they pulled on the threads and cracked the block at the weakest point in the galley.

    Over torque or premature crack? It’s an n54 which is how old and you turned the wick up…… they’re solid motors but the price you pay for pushing them to the limit I guess…. Good video tho
