  • Aquarium jaguar cichlids are super rad fish. What if we mixed a jaguar with a Texas Cichlid? Make sure to feed your fish a staple diet of pellets and mix in treats here and there.

Watch how much you're feeding. That keeps your ammonia levels up. You may need to rehome them temporarily and possibly start over. I learned my lesson after i lost a fish that cycling your tank before adding fish is best. Trista Backman I'll tell you, last week at the start of the week, the tank looked great. The fish were doing fantastic and I had such a blast watching them when I would get home. They are so entertaining , my husband and I had started talking about saving for a bigger tank. Then all hades broke out and well... Here we are. Lol

Very cool. I have a Flowerhorn x Jaguar hybrid and he is an absolute riot. Huge personality, only kept with a big black spotted eel and a couple raphael catfish to get all the scraps because he's a super messy eater. But my LFS had trouble selling him as a fry and ended up giving him to me. I always thought the patterns were very unique. Looks very similar to the Texas hybrid but with flowerhorn patterns with the traditional jag patterns

I had a male Texas Blue breed with a female jaguar. This was about 1990. They had one spawn of about 600 fry . I sold them all to local fish stores in Saginaw MI. They were all brilliant blue with jaguar markings. Most beautiful cichlid I have ever seen. I kept small bunch of about 20 and raised them till they spawned. Sadly they were all sterile. Every pet store that purchased them said people said same thing about their beauty.

If I was someone who knew very little about fish keeping, I would say that it was a flowerhorn. Hybridization is quite interesting when it comes to animals since it has proven successful with flowerhorns or parrot cichlids

I mix turtles with 90% of my cichlids and bichirs I absolutely love the mix and how they interact but everyone goes oh you cant do that glad to hear a pro that's not against mixing aquarium animals. (Only problem I've had is when the turtle somehow knocked off my filter inlet and it sucked in my gold severum)

Some People seem to be very passionate about keeping breed lines pure
And as important as this is .... There seems to be a lot of 'fear'? That this will ruin the 🧬 line ?
The only problem I have is that , when I am looking for a pure bred , I might get a cross ❌.. :)

40 years ago I had hybrids between three species. Nigrofasciata, Spilurum and Meeki. Now I can't remember what happened to them. What is odd to me is why they give different family names to clearly closely related species? It used to be only Chiclasoma. I guess scientists just want to be able to name things and make up differences.

No such thing as green Texas. “Green Texas” actually Herichthys carpintis are different from the rio grande/Texas cichlid shown in your tank. They are easily differentiated by the small spots on the Texas cichlids and the larger spots and usually more colorful on the carpintis.

They do bring something.new fish that poeple might like.after all we have a ton of selectively bred fish that could never exsit in nature so why not have hybrids for the poeple who like them?
The problem with hybrids is not hybrids.it's poeple who don't label them right.which isn't just a hybrid problem.

I really dislike Green Texas. They're usually sold as tropical instead of subtropical and they never tell you how much of an asshole they can be. Bought a pair and the male killed the female even when they were only two inches in a tank with lots of cover and line of sight breaks. He then proceeded and failed to try an kill off everyone else off, until my severum 3 times his size at the time put a stop to it. I traded him in.

Almost every animal is mixed or 2 of one kind made it. When the government does it that's fine .. Some fish lover does it its the end of the world. BOTTOMLINE IT TAKE 2 OF EVERYTHING TO MAKE 1 MUTT. WHATS A FULL BREED ANYWAY. 2 DIFFERENT BREEDS.

This guy has no idea what he is talking about. About 70% of the stuff he preaches is b.s. All the serious fb groups like American cichlid enthusiasts think he’s a joke. People tolerate him because he has so many subs. The same as zac catch em all. The problem is people believe this guys terrible advice. I remember someone well respected and very well liked in the hobby said he doesn’t heat any of his tanks (baring in mind his unheated fish have won numerous awards) and this clown went and made a video saying it’s a total no no letting your tank drop to 69-70 f in the winter, low 80’s summer. Keeping a fish at an elevated temperature constantly causes the fish to grow and go through its life cycle a lot quicker than a fish that matured through the seasons. Name one hard to keep species this guy has ever even attempted to keep and breed? Midevils, managuense and a mix of carpintis and true Texas will breed in a bucket. Try something a bit challenging like t.asfraci for a change? You’d kill them in days
