- Our Top 10 most aggressive Central American cichlids! We have kept a wide variety of cichlids, and in today's video, we compiled a list of our current favorites when it comes to the most aggressive species. Most of the cichlids on this list are relatively going to be aggressive most of the time. All cichlids have their own personality though, so even the "aggressive" cichlids in this video can still have a docile individual.
A few tips to reduce risk of aggression with any cichlid: proper tank mates, larger tanks with more territory, ideal Male/Female ratios, and avoiding pairs breeding in the tank.

Let's all give the Cichlid Bros lots of thumbs up for an informative video with great camera work.
Thank you guys for the great informative videos. Looking forward to my own brother enjoying my new cichlid tanks
Awesome, thanks for watching!
@@CichlidBros These Central American Cichlids are barbarians!
Great video always. Now I know what not to buy. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Merry Christmas!
Stunning!
Very informative. From the uk
Ive never owned a dovii but i have owned several red devils… they are killers. Great list and on point🙂👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Love the Video and especially that Trimac! His name was Custer and came from the same batch as my last Trimac, I’d put them as #1 on the list if the division wasn’t so much bigger
Thanks! They're awesome for sure!
My favorite is the dovii, love your videos brother
Thanks for watching!
Awsome video, beautiful fish, good list.
Thank you!
Great video
Thanks!
That was a great video and I am one of the guys that keeps a 22 inch dovii by itself it's my pet I've had him for about 4 years he's absolutely gorgeous all he does is swing back and forth back and forth back and forth a lot of fun to watch
Nice list I would definitely put a Chiapaheros grammodes in that list though. A "mini dovii" . They grow slow and only get about 10". Have you heard of those?
We’ve had a Jack Dempsey that got a little aggressive then when we added another one they got really aggressive towards other tank mates
Great video as always... I'm surprised that you didn't put the fire mouth over the convict... In my experience the fire mouth is pretty much who keeps the fighting up at least in my tank... I have a mixture of south and central.. but for the most part every single time I watch them it's him being the aggressive one and he has 135 gallons 😂
Thanks! I could see that for sure haha. I’ve had some really calm/passive FMs too. Just hit or miss with them sometimes
@@CichlidBros lol I have 2 small Oscars I added about 8-9 months after letting everything else grow... But 2 Oscars.. 1 male FM 1 male electric blue Acara.. red spot turquoise serum.. Jack Dempsey.. blood parrot.. polar blue parrot and a Senegal bichir... The Acara and FM literally fight all day and if it's not each other they swim around pretty much looking for a fight.. the electric blue is my favorite but I'm considering removing him because his aggression is not what expected... I thought it would be the Jack Dempsey cichlid who would eventually get extremely aggressive 😂😂😂.. thanks for responding and I look forward to seeing another video!!
Bro my Oscar fish has clamped fins, is not swimming sitting on bottom or on top of the water level . I have heater which I keep on since the winter started upto 28°c.
He takes feed properly but not swimming pls guide me
You have to put Butterkoferi cichlid on the list. Sadly I had to rehome mine at about 10 inches. He became so destructive, attacking every piece of equipment in the tank.
I’d definitely agree, but the butterkoferi is from Africa
The Umbee should be on that list..had a female ...now I have a Dovii and Jaguar ...pure headaches ..but love em.
Not Central American
I keep almost all of these fish in various tanks and would tend to agree more or less with this list. But grammodes should be on here.
Any thoughts on the chancho ?
my one oscar is always changing color in seconds like few seconds earlier he is black and after few seconds later he is lighter in color and after few seconds he is black again and he is doing it continously is it bad ?
Hey did I just see two convicts in the tank while you were talking about the Jack Dempsey?
Yep
@@CichlidBros Merry Christmas guys to you and your family. I really appreciate all the informative videos you guys push out. It's made life in the aquarium hobby so much easier. I'm just checking but that's not a male and female convict pair is it?
Great video I will tell you tho I currently have dovii, jags, and black nasty and I will say the black nasty is definitely much more aggressive and idk if you’ve seen a full grown black nasty they get absolutely massive watch Andy woods he has a video of his old big male it’s a massive fish also there are stories of them killing umbee and dovii (sorry im a big fan of the black nasty)
Not sure why but about a week after I added 2 albino treadfin acara to my community tank they literally tried to kill eachother. they were docile for a week and out of nowhere they faced off, locked lips, and fought up and down my 75 gallon for a hour....anytime they came in sight of eachother immedialtly puff out the gills and charge towards eachother....the only way to stop if was my tank boss Electric Blue Acara puts them in their place.....I have 4 Geo Tapajos and 2 Electric Blue Acara's with the 2 treadfins.
My threadfin Acara were so mean and bullies in my tank that I had to rehome them! They were stunning but really upset the balance in my tank. They constantly bullied and terrorized my bigger geophagus!
The argentia I had was not very aggressive. Dovii are awesome but need a massive aquarium. Texas is a great choice IMHO for someone who wants a beautiful but aggressive cichlid for a solo tank of moderate size, say 75 gallons.
Flower Horn and Butterkoferi should have made the list , other than that good video.
Neither of those are Central American cichlids
Hi.. One correction... Electric blue jack dempsy, those are man made n much much more docile... But fortunately, i had wild caughr jack dempsy as well.. They were mean... Super super aggressive
I did not mention electric blue JDs
I have a Red Devil female and she is a sweet fish until she lays eggs After that she gets crazy. I have to scrape them off the glass to calm her down. Other than that she is a great fish and very personal fish. ❤😂
Firemouths arent that bad actually. They do awesome in groups of 6 or more as they are a shoaling species. Very active.
My nicaragua cichlid is super aggressive lol . Fights with my Convicts and fire mouth
I got lucky with my female salvini its peacefull in my comunity its even breed with my blue eyed cichlid and chases other fish away but dosnt really attack anything
Awesome fish if you get lucky!
@@CichlidBros hoping i get the salvini look but less aggressive
My red devil lives up to his name no tank mates kills everyone no bs
I've kept both Cubans and black nasties and I can say that a Cubans aggression doesn't hold a candle up to the black nasty's aggression. A black nasty will even hurt itself because it's so damn aggressive. My black nasty would constantly smash its head against the glass just so that it can attack its own reflection....
Love your videos, but isn’t the jaguar Cichlid pronounced like JAGWAAR and not JAGWYER like you say it… just kind of curious if it’s two different fish is all?
Not two different fish, just the way I say it
Trimac to me is the most aggressive
My jd killed my salvini cichlid the first night I had it the jd was only 4.5 inch the salvini was 4 inch
When u said vieja syns, the video was of bifasciatus, and then the syns came up in video.
Exactly, the synspilum was in the shot
@CichlidBros , it's the other way around. It's bifasciatus, not syns in video
You forgot about Oscar red terror umbee flower horn peacock bass tilapia and emperor Cichlid
None of those are Central American
I thought a Red Terror was Central American?
@@CichlidBros
What about a green pike Cichlid? Had one, he was a monster
Red is a South American, right?
@@SRIGLEY1972 red terrors and pikes are South American
The wolf you filmed was that from Aquarium Adventure? Looks familiar.
Was it yours?
@@CichlidBrosno, I’ve seen that setup before at aquarium adventure. Looks like the same one? Was that Schaumburg location?
Una barracuda les gana a todos juntos
where is jaguar cichlid?

my bad👍
my bad👍
Have you heard call 5 point fish? Look like a bass larger mouth Not an American
enjoy your vids but this list is very "bias" i think towards what you have owned. there are a lot of other fish which are way more aggressive than ones on this list. for instance Breihdori are extremely agressive, way more so than most of the vieja you mentioned.
Haven’t owned dovii, Red Devils, or jaguars and they’re top of the list…
@@CichlidBros yeah but those are kinda a given, not? my midas is in a community tank along side jags, rtm, buttikoferi, argentias and a whole lot of other viejas. it really depends from fish to fish I suppose. cannot see the nicaragua or any earth eater being on this list of most aggresive bud. my regani's are way more aggresive than the nics.... `love you content, so don't take it as a negative, just dont agree with the list nud. looking forward to your new adventure with the Red Terrors.. my absolute favourite fish. my boy was a beast but sadly passed away. got some new grow outs so excited to see what comes from them.
My jack destroyed everything in my 100 gal tank . He loved stream fish to hunt and eat. He kicked the Oscar's butt day in an d a y out yah
