You’re silk scarf tip is the most useful tip I’ve gotten. I am the only person on my swim team with my hair texture, and it can be frustrating when my cap continually slips off if there are any traces of conditioner in my hair, meaning I had to choose between protecting my hair or having a comfortable practice. I can’t wait to try this out in the pool, meaning I won’t have to choose!
I’ve literally been searching for weeks now trying to find black swimmers and their hair tips and I have finally found a video with really useful advice. Thank you so much!!
This is the best approach I’ve seen so far & she is SPOT ON! Additional tip from a south Asian woman (curly black hair, dark skin) to cut down on time: 1. mix castor oil & coconut oil (1:2 parts) into a mist spray bottle & just spray that stuff on all over (in hair before & after swimming) & on body after all done. (Can swap out body lotions for the oils) 2. Swap out head scarf with easy-on towelcap/turban (see Korean, Japanese, or dollar stores) to wear under ur swim cap. 🏊
As a coach I got this question ALL the time and there is an even less inexpensive natural conditioner less any chemicals in your fridge and cubbard/pantry and vitamin E for the skin Minus sunlight and hair. Also some facilities have switched to bromine as opposed to chlorine. Avacado is a wonderful facial for swimmers..... Nonethemore, you are OUTSTANDING!!!
I started swim lessons a few weeks ago and I noticed a lot of my hair breaking off today when I was brushing it. I wear a swim cap but my hair always ends up wet 😩. I’m going to try these tips, thank you so much for this video!
@Naomy Grand'Pierre love the video. Thank you! After the pool, when you went to shower, did you also shampoo your hair again or not? Was not clear. Thanks.
i’m so thankful for this video as a swimmer of 10 years who grew up in a white family. my only question is, i have box braids in and it’s not like i can take them out or anything, so does it work the same with braids and would i still wrap my hair before putting the cap on?
I would use the same method for braids -- however, I know wetting all your braids every day is quite a pain. I'll create a new video with tricks for braids. coming soon!
Hey, just wanted to ask, im a mexican girl with type 3c/4a hair, and im about to start water polo and swim. would it be ok for me to follow these tips, includijg the protective styles? i dont want my hair to die bcs kf the chlorine, but i also dont want to be disrespectful/insensitive
not before swimming as it makes your face slippery and your goggles won't stay on -- but after, you 100% want to moisturize with something deep like castor oil, vitamin E oil or natural shae butter
your hair never stays 100% dry during a swim so it is better to wet your hair with non chlorinated water than have your dry hair absorb chlorine water.

I usually shampoo my hair once or twice a week. so just depends on the day -- I always rinse out my hair after a swim tho.
Great info 🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹

Are there any products that you use on your skin before swimming?

For the pre and post routines do you use leave in conditioner or regular conditioner ?
Also great video!! tysm
i wonder if you could just do this with dry hair.
