2. Swim Cap
3. Clarifying Shampoo
4. Use Protein conditioner and moisturizing conditioner
5. Apple Cider Vinegar rinse
6. Oil (coconut oil)
7. Leave in conditioner

I have long curly hair and what I’ve had to do is wet my hair before getting in the pool, add conditioner, put on swim cap. Once I’m out of the pool I have a spray bottle of water and vitamin c. Vitamin c breaks down chlorine. So spray it all over your body and hair before shampooing. You will smell the difference. Before implementing this I would always chop off my hair bc the chlorine ruined my curls and thickness.

Wetting your hair first before going in the pool is a must. Great advice
Why? What's the benefit?
@Autumn_B pretty simple really. Dry hair is like a dry sponge. When the hair is pre-wet it is soaked with water not chlorine. Whereas if you go in dry, the chlorinated water is absorbed first. That is why when colouring hair or using hair treatments they will indicate whether the hair should be wet or dry when applying their product. Hope that helps you understand.

So I’ve been a competitive swimmer for 6 years now and lately I’ve been feeling like my hair is more damaged and less thick and I’ve got to deal with hair loss. So I searched up this topic to build an actual hair care routine after swimming 2h per day. The damage of chlorine isn’t just in my hair, I can feel it on my skin too both are just super dry. So thanks for this video It’s really helping me to get my hair right.
For the body try creams with ceramides and or niacinamide. It helps a lot to replenish the skin barrier.
Im not a professional swimmer but I swim 4-5 times a week because I'm pregnant and cant do much else for exercise my hairs fine and bleached and something that really helped me because my hair went really brittle and dry was argon oil masks which are really cheap but they helped replace the natural oils i was losing xxx
I swim for two swim teams one is 2 hours long all year round and my hair used to be very dry and damaged until I started wearing a swim cap it is essential if you want to protect your hair. My hair is now much healthier but my hair is quite long now and the back of my hair sticks out of the cap and is a completely different color. I have brown hair and the back of my hair is very blonde. I also use a shampoo called ultraswim which removes chlorine and the smell
Does the swim cap you use keep your hair dry? Is it necessary that it keep the hair dry to protect it?

Literally this helped my hit is a natural kinda dark sandy brown and the tips are so damaged it’s a very golden blond with a hint of brown so I needed theese tips.
As a male with really thick light brown hair that’s down to my chest it’s an absolute nightmare having longish hair. The second it gets wet it in the pool it turns into a 5kg towel, my father had even thicker hair and would have to buzzcut it for triathlons purely because of the weight regardless of it being salt or chlorine

Thanks for this informative video! I went and got my hair cut. Beautician asked if I was a swimmer. I said yes, for the last 3 months. I asked how did you know? She said my hair was slimy when wet. I had not noticed it. She said to buy swimmer hair shampoo, but I can’t find it anywhere.

I’ve just started swimming every other day and found this video, my hair is fine, I have 3A/3B curls, it’s also light brown and I think I got advice for all of my concerns except curly hair. If you have any additional advice for swimmers with curly hair I’d appreciate it :)
NO! Swim caps dont keep hair dry and safe. Its to prevent drag. It can help buts its not like 100% dry hair

having the chlorine left in the hair and building up is far worse than washing your hair every day. Remember the people that say 'don't wash your hair everyday' are talking about the average person who doesn't go swimming, its not appropriate advice for swimmers.

I swim. I want to dye my hair for the first time with Overtine Purple for Brown hair but I swim 2x a week. I use Ultra shampoo for swimmers. I condition it afterward too. But I will try the wet hair before swimming and rinse hair after. I already use a cap. Thanks. I havent found much online about hair dye when you are a swimmer.

I recently started swimming. I oil and wash my hair after every two days. My hair is generally a little frizzy and wavy. I've never coloured it or undergone any kind of hair treatment.Even though I use a silicone cap, my hair gets extra frizzy, very dry and after a day it starts getting greasy and the ends feel like rope fibres. Won't shampooing it daily make it drier? Please suggest me something.
I add about five drops of rose hip oil to my hair masks/conditioner because I find no conditioner or mask is strong enough on its own to combat the dryness!

i have been swimming for about 6-7 years and i think about the first 3 years i didn’t wear a swim cap because i got headaches. i regret not wearing one it would’ve been bad but not as bad as my hair now 😅

I definitely shampoo and condition after every swim. Even if that is everyday, if I don't my hair gets really gross.

I had the same thing happen and I just trimmed my hair like 2-3 inches because the ends were already dead, and now my hair is straight at the ends. But I've also heard that hair tends to curl up only at the ends because there's so much weight, but I haven't done much research into that.

I'm a man that had long hair. Then I started swimming 3or4 times a week. My hair felt like sht and looked fuzzy/ dry. I just said f-it, I cut my hair short. Problem mostly solved.

As a swimmer I can tell you, just use water to rinse your hair. Nothing else.
