Scott's video had an unfortunate lack of guard spec by Silph Co Your edit style is really cool, adds a nice new dimension to your videos. I'd add they're supplementary to the main content so don't bother if it's taking too much time
Thanks. Yea, no guard specs today sadly. When you say don't bother, you mean just don't put in the effort if it takes a little time? That part is a little confusing, haha.
You did so well! Really tough last battle but great to hear your thoughts about the run and the race overall. I know you're going to great things with smeargle too and hope you get a lot of extra views after all your hard work! The new major battle entry cutscenes is real nice 👍
Little tip. When using speed control, like stun spore, while you are slower, it's almost free, cause you get the turn back by out speeding. Similar for double Stat boosts like sword dance. One double Stat boosts doubles the damage you do, so it's the same as attacking when you'd need to multi hit ko in the first place. Same applies to defensive statboosts. I always see a lot of solo runners ignoring this concept instead of abusing it.
Ha, some people are just dumb I guess. I talk about it in some videos but I bring up turn economy and what not here. Total turns in battle is important and with the speed badge boost, you can get a free turn as well if you only underspeed by 12.5% or less.
It's highly recommended to watch Scott's Thoughts video on the race. It's long but you can skip an hourish when he's done with his run to talk about the competitors.
Here's the interesting part about GYM LEADER MATT out of 2,000 submissions to scott HE WAS THE ONLY ONE to attempt the early game corner into 2 Erika trainers n decided to go with the extra rare candies instead of optionals Matt had arguably the strangest route and you had to get 15 places down the leader board to obtain another nonmeta route ONLY gym leader matt comes up with these radical good routes
@@GymLeaderMatt1987the thing that impressed me about YOU was it was A UNIQUE STRONG ROUTE Nobody did that and EVERYONE EXCEPT YOU shared information Scott ironically through SHEER DUMB LUCK did your midgame route but YOU were doing wild xp n Nobody else did n you had THE FASTEST SILPH to blaine by a minute jumping you from a close 6 to 8th to FIRST so you keeping the route SECRET DID WORK and I felt you HAD THE WINNING ROUTE although much riskier They all did instant koga or a third silph into koga which was actually slower
The goal was to make anything post rival 2 consistent and it was until I chopped some things out at the end to save like 30 or 40 seconds but it just wasn’t in the cards for me.
Man, what a race. Not gonna lie i stopped watching Scotts video, about 20 mins in to hope you won, before he announced anything started watching yours and was like damn... I hate the luck based bs, but it is gen 1, hence the only reason Weedle could technically win the game. Anyways about the time saves comment all of those would add up to at least 5 seconds per encounter, which would technically add up to a minute, which makes or breaks a lot of times. Besides that been loving the Alolan summer. Stoked for Marowak this week. Keep up the good work brother! Excited for the surprise stream as well. Stay Real one, or just keep kicking ass.
Appreciate that! I was going to stream the new race but it turned out to be Smeargle and after setting up, it's not a very time friendly blind run lmao. I decided against it.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 as much fun as that would be, save your sanity for another day. I bet another good run would be Dragonair, with no flying weakness hindering it, I wonder if it could stand the test. But if you did a gen 2 stream, do Miltank, that boy is surprisingly beefy. Used one in a random casual playthrough recently and ended up being very good. Still waiting on that Nidoqueen though, imo one of the best Pokemon in Gen 1. Or just throw caution to the wind and do a Gyarados stream lmao 😂
Oh Lord, just finished the Scott's Thoughts video I see now why you said Smeargle... Fuck that is all I have to say as a player, for me grab a couple of very hard Sodie Pops, and probably, some whiskey. Good luck brother you should have won that.

I recently had my Parasect at level 95 full maxed out and I setup Sword Dance on Pidgeot who couldn't do squat because I used Guard Spec prior and with the badge boost glitch and Sword Dance I wiped out the Rival/Champion in mere moments. My move list is Leech Life, Mega Drain, Swords Dance, & Slash. Parsect in gen 1 was a absolute monster and not much could stop it once its over leveled
Ha, I think everything outside of like Ditto or Weedle are unstoppable in their 90s. Quick note on the learset is that Slash crits just ignore the Swords Dance so they are kind of clashing hard in that learnset.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Parsect is slow so crits are rare I never heard of Slash getting mucked with Swords Dance but gen 1 is bug central so anything is possible
I’m one of the returning ones, brotha! I loved the editing, but if I’m being honest I preferred the old “boss intro “ I don’t know, it sorta of fit the theme of old game more for me I guess
Sorry to hear that. The sprite intro was a little low rez and felt a little haphazardly thrown together for me. My next few videos are the process that led to this style but at the end I wanted to use the Pokémon stadium style blocks but wanted to make it thematic with my tier cards at the end. Personally I was very happy with the results. Maybe it’s not a deal breaker lol

Okay I usually wait until I'm done with the video before I comment but I was way too excited today lol so I'm here to add that I would LOVE to see a podcast with you and Scott and any other runners discussing the thought process behind the run. I loved the stream you did with Scott because it was really interesting to listen to the both of you discuss the strategies you use and the logic behind them, and really get into the minutia of all of the little decisions that go into a run that tend not to make it into a scripted video
I'm always down to talk about a little Pokemon. You really don't get to see that stuff a lot. Most of burnout/time off over the last few weeks has just been from how disconnected and futile it can all feel but I'm grinding out the next race this weekend. Maybe it'll be as good!
I could only imagine what kind of cheating people were doing to win this. I just finished Scotts video. Brother you were one Carbos away from victory. Well done.
We’ll never know but the only factual thing is the first place person’s footage wasn’t correct but was accepted anyway. It cuts off magically when it says ‘you defeated the champion’ but it was explicitly stated you need to record to the end of the hall of fame. It’s fishy but it’s so inconsequential and doesn’t matter to me. If you cheat to win some niche contest, it’s just sad.

That was a really nice run outside of the resets in the early game and hopefully it'll get more people to subscribe. Scott's video had an unfortunate lack of guard spec by Silph Co
Your edit style is really cool, adds a nice new dimension to your videos. I'd add they're supplementary to the main content so don't bother if it's taking too much time
Thanks. Yea, no guard specs today sadly. When you say don't bother, you mean just don't put in the effort if it takes a little time? That part is a little confusing, haha.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I think Kanbei prefers your edit style overall, don't worry about the final time and keep those cool intros.
honestly i have always really liked parasect but have never had a game recently to play with one... the hunt is on!!
I’m sure you can find one. Weird Pokémon to use but when mastered it delivers a very dominant run.
You did so well! Really tough last battle but great to hear your thoughts about the run and the race overall. I know you're going to great things with smeargle too and hope you get a lot of extra views after all your hard work! The new major battle entry cutscenes is real nice 👍
Really glad you like them. I’ve been slacking on content because I’m prepping up something special for the Smeargle run. One day left!
I love all the content! So much fun!
Editing and replaying this was a mix of fun and anxiety.
That unlucky crit on Sandslash screwed you, btw gj on your race. Tombstoner brother
There's a 95% chance you don't crit! Guess who's lucky enough to crit right there in that moment? Me lmao.
Way more excited for this than I have any right to be
It was a fun ride!
I really like your animation on the gym leaders. 👍
Thanks! It’ll be a couple more weeks but they’ll be standard from here on out.
I really liked the Cynthia music for the Jr. Trainer with the Goldeen! Real One!
It's highly recommended to watch Scott's Thoughts video on the race. It's long but you can skip an hourish when he's done with his run to talk about the competitors.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I saw his video before watching yours so I was sort of spoiled.
The Smeargle one will be the same!
Real one! Another solid run I just watched the race.
The crit heard round the world.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 true understatement!!!
@@stormybrooks1512 Gives me a good redemption arc, that is unless someone has a 3 encounter Mt. Moon again lmao
I have been waiting for this! Amazing man!!
Hope you enjoyed it! I had to relive the tale.
Absolutely! This was well worth the wait!
It was a pretty solid video.
PP is a tombstoner! Now if he didnt crash on take off... Get hom a tombstone
Crashed on the landing lol.
The razzle dazzle is good. The real ones get it. Keep it up
The razzle dazzle has never let anyone down!
Congrats ❤✌🏾✌🏾 you’ve improved a lot bro 😎
Improving all the time!
that race was amazing and you did amazing.
Yea, it was a pretty good video!
Talks to chansey
“I’ll leave you with that”
Lmao
Lmao, I've done it too many times to count.
Well done, Matt! Definitely a real one.
I appreciate that! The real ones are the best ones.
you the real one Matt. Great work as usual.
Appreciate that, Tony. You're always a tombstoner in my book.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 you going to participate in the Smeargle race?
I am going to do some runs. If I can find a good route, I'll grind a good bit.
Real one. PUMPED to have finally see this video. Hell yes, great run with the fungus.
Yea, it was a pretty high tier run for what it was. Yellow brought out the best in it.
Here's the interesting part about GYM LEADER MATT out of 2,000 submissions to scott HE WAS THE ONLY ONE to attempt the early game corner into 2 Erika trainers n decided to go with the extra rare candies instead of optionals
Matt had arguably the strangest route and you had to get 15 places down the leader board to obtain another nonmeta route
ONLY gym leader matt comes up with these radical good routes
I was definitely tweaking a lot. Most of the routes were extremely similar. Hell, the winner just took Vanman's route.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987the thing that impressed me about YOU was it was A UNIQUE STRONG ROUTE
Nobody did that and EVERYONE EXCEPT YOU shared information
Scott ironically through SHEER DUMB LUCK did your midgame route but YOU were doing wild xp n Nobody else did n you had THE FASTEST SILPH to blaine by a minute jumping you from a close 6 to 8th to FIRST so you keeping the route SECRET DID WORK and I felt you HAD THE WINNING ROUTE although much riskier
They all did instant koga or a third silph into koga which was actually slower
The goal was to make anything post rival 2 consistent and it was until I chopped some things out at the end to save like 30 or 40 seconds but it just wasn’t in the cards for me.
the myth! the legend! excited to see it :)
Hope you enjoyed. I’ve been in lair trying to redeem myself.
I’m not sure what the future holds. I got about 3 ish more videos done and I’m practicing the next race now so it’ll be up in the air.
Oh Lord, just finished the Scott's Thoughts video I see now why you said Smeargle... Fuck that is all I have to say as a player, for me grab a couple of very hard Sodie Pops, and probably, some whiskey. Good luck brother you should have won that.
@@ryanbenedetti-kp2yx The crit king lol. Yea, Smeargle is honestly weird. It's been really fun planning it. I'm in the 'run' stage now with a planned route so we'll see.
Ey who do you think will win a fist fight
You or indigo Plato ash
Wow the fabled race vid dropped !
Indeed it did. Hope it does well! A years worth of waiting and a lot of work in this one! Appreciate that!
It's been 10,000 years!
It has been quite a while.
An underrated pokemon imo
Maybe not anymore.
Along time coming finally the random encounter has appeared
Watch Scott’s video if you haven’t. The most dramatic and crushing defeat ever.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 i just saw he posted and came to your channel been waiting along time
We all were! Hopefully not as long next time
I’m one of the returning ones, brotha!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 it’s not a deal breaker at all, hey it’s your channel and it’s not going to be a boss intro style that it’s going to take me to not watch, I just shared my opinion and if you are happy and excited for more videos like this, I’m down for it
Good to hear!
This seemed like it was a slog glad for your sake its over with.
5 weeks is too long for any race lol.
FINALLY! Buggin out, brother!
I really was at the end lol.
Real one, hearing an accent is worth it ngl
Thanks. Glad you like it lol.
OH MY GOSH it's finally here 💪
Okay I usually wait until I'm done with the video before I comment but I was way too excited today lol so I'm here to add that I would LOVE to see a podcast with you and Scott and any other runners discussing the thought process behind the run.
Awesome run time dude!!
Thanks!
You ALMOST had it no zam crit n YOU WIN literally
That being SAID you DID INSANELY WELL and the ONLY ONE cool enough to don the TOMBSTONER BROTHER

@@GymLeaderMatt1987 It was.
When you hear that bell, you know the undertaker has sat up just like I’m going to do the next race
Awesome job...what was the consistent run time? 45min is pretty sick
Like 47 minutes. This one wasn't the recommended type of route. Everyone suffered but only the winner magically could get consistent 46 times every day it felt like.
At long last! The race!
Took quite a while!
