I was a student of B.Sc Zoology, graduated from Holy Cross College, Trichy in the year 1980. I had great interest in science especially zoology, but due to social & family restrictions I could not pursue higher studies. I had great respect for Charles Darwin. His contribution to evolution theory is great. Thanks for presenting his philosophy. 15-2-22.

Hope you won't mistake me if I point out a small correction which may be due to even typographical error too which you might not have noticed (even though you may be knowing the right word I am sure) while pressing words appearing in Display while typing. It is Theory on 'Evolution' (பரிணாமக்கொள்கை) please. Evaluation generally refers to the work done by Teaching personnel while giving grade or marks in school/collegiate education. Also as Assessment we can say. Nothing is final in Theoretical Science, nay, even regarding theories based on experiments too, be it Physics/Cosmology/Biology etc. Celebrated Darwin's theory is also under dispute now. There are many missing links to be contemplated regarding the chain of evolution concerning Humans, believed to be evolved from Monkeys/Apes. Also some people believe that millions of different type of species might have appeared at a time simultaneously on earth or independently one by one over a course of millions of years, again which is also cannot be accepted totally as it is. Thus, speculation plays a major role in Science too ! I was a Commerce student of 1970-73 batch, graduated from Madura College, Madurai, abode of Goddess Angayarkanni (Meenakshi). Right from my childhood, I somehow developed interest in Science, even though not pursued a degree in Science. But my wife is a Zoology graduate (1979) with creditable marks. Though not continued her studies further (having the same feeling of disappointment as you expressed regarding you), she is having knowledge about Medical field and can converse with Medical practitioners at ease, to their delight. Great explanation about evolution to a novice like me, Prof. Dinakaran Sir. I just have this query to you or to Prof. Murali Sir if you are still reading this comments page. If everything is random selection, then during a particular time frame, there is an amazing ability of one person to pick highest level of "coherency" from this randomness whereas others cannot even fathom such a thing. I am talking about Isaignani Ilaiyaraja's ability to produce repeatable soul stirring tunes numerous times, in a kind of interlinked pattern, for at least 20 years whereas many other music directors could not produce more than one or two "coherent" tunes and lost in the randomness of the particular time period.

Great Sir. Very nice to listen to you both. I have one question. Can we say like this? A person's character is defined by 70% Genetic influence & 30% Environmental influence?
Darwin's main thesis was that existence was for procration of species based on natural selection including sexual selection , struggle for existence and survival of the fittest. Darwin cannot be satisfactorily explained without covering post Darwin progress in scientific discoveries. I would recommend to Prof Murali to request Dr Dhinaaran to explain to us Double Helix, the role of genes and even if it appears that a species is evloving it is the (selfish) gene which in its compulsion to survive decides the future of species.

Darwin's main thesis was that existence was for procration of species based on natural selection including sexual selection , struggle for existence and survival of the fittest. Darwin cannot be satisfactorily explained without covering post Darwin progress in scientific discoveries. I would recommend to Prof Murali to request Dr Dhinaaran to explain to us Double Helix, the role of genes and even if it appears that a species is evloving it is the (selfish) gene which in its compulsion to survive decides the future of species.

Relating to the evolution theories if you can organise for an expert to explain Richard Dawkins genes related research and writing skills it would be very helpful in understanding natural selection , altruism and selfishness. Richard Dawkins is a current time scientist who has written several books on this subject
