I really enjoyed this as I sit relaxing on a rainy day after hunting morels for the last four days. I've found nearly 30lbs now, my feet ache and I've sent little paper bags full of morels to all our friends as it's been the best year I've ever had only a few days in and they're just everywhere this year! Happy hunting!
Not much happening here in NorCal yet, no morels and hardly anything else. It’s raining today so hopefully they wake up and join the party!! Great work as usual Aaron thanks for sharing.
I love this channel! Always looking forward to new videos. I'm heading up the mountain tomorrow, checking out a burn from last summer. Hoping the morels and fiddleheads have started!
Check wood chip beds this time of year also. 😊 ... no section cyanescens in the spring, but you might find _Psilocybe ovoidiocystidiata_ Another urban mushroom to look for right now, in the PNW, is _Morchella importuna_ -- saprotrophic morels that pop up in crappy bark mulch beds. Usually not in large numbers, but if you keep walking around, you'll keep finding 1 or 2 here or there.
SO STRANGE, watching Aaron on the West coast because I have a habit of finding, many of the same mushrooms in French Canada, one or two weeks later. Winnipeg weather reaches our sugar-bush, approximately two days later ..weather systems from the Rockies take 5 to 7 days, to reach the East.
Great stuff as usual. Thanks for your dedication. Those dogs, eh? 😂 At 7:30: In a future video could you outline the process that you use for preparing turkey tails? I've been purchasing processed powders when I have the mushrooms in my own woods.
Well, I do have that same thing happened to me at the beginning of the season sometimes, where I see a morale and then I save it covered up. Be gentle and the Dang thing dies almost every time. Or it might be several yeah, at the beginning of the season. That does definitely happen for sure.
If you find an immature specimen of “The Prince” mushroom, just pick it up and put it into your fridge for a few days, and it will grow to full size. But make sure there is something damp in the container with it that it can draw moisture from, like a damp kitchen towel or another (preferably full grown) mushroom with a lot of moisture in it. I discovered this on accident after picking a couple of babies and leaving them in the fridge. (This only works well if the mushrooms are maggot free, by the way. Otherwise, the little crawlies are gonna eat your entire mushroom before you get to enjoy them. So check that there are no entry holes anywhere. You also don’t want to cut too far into the mushrooms, that seems to hinder further development.)
Have you tried picking them with the base intact and some mycelium still attached to it? It has been reported that some mushrooms can then be put in a vase like flowers and continue to grow or at least stay fresh for days. I have seen several reports that it works very well with Macrolepiota spp.
Yeah one time I picked a big button and left it in my truck as we went on a 3-day hike, when I got back it had doubled in size and was fully open dropping spores all over the carpet. It was pretty wild.
That false morel looks like black western elfin saddles that I find this time of year in the central Sierra Nevada foothills. I usually find them amongst live oak and black oaks
Hey brother! I’m new to your channel, wondering if you have ever been to Mason county looking for mushrooms? If so, do you offer any classes?❤ on edible mushrooms?
Hey welcome! I forage in Mason county a lot. Love that area. You should join the Kitsap mycological Society! We have monthly meetings, forays and picnics and an annual mushroom show. It's really cool to get involved. There's a great chance that this fall quarter I'm going to start teaching a mushroom class at the Olympic college in Bremerton also.
I heard for a proper dosage take 50 grams of dried Turkey Tail and 1 liter of water bring them to a boil then simmer overnight in a crock pot or for a minimum of 2 hours , top up the water as needed. I reckon this would be 4 servings but could be more? Is there somebody in this RUclips that can verify the dosages and servings for the immune boosting turkey tail.
Hey! I’m in Northern coastal California, Del Norte county area. I just stumbled onto your videos like a week ago. I have never found a morel but have been wanting to for a while now. I’m curious what elevation are you at? Or like your general vicinity? I’m try to figure out how far inland and increase in elevation I need to go. Thank you. Or I can email you if that is preferable! Thanks!
Stay away from those false morels. Just to be safe , collect your bounty and send them to me for testing. I’ll test them and send you a report for your reference. 😊
For most mushrooms I would generally not recommend putting a lid.on them. You'll steam the mushroom too much, rather than saute them. Just turn the heat up a bit more.
Several hectares of oak trees, have been inoculated with Inocybe insignis mycelium, from a fruiting-body collected under them the previous season. The darkest purple specimen was used, to produce the mycelium in a bio-reactor over the winter. My legs are still a bit sore, I am 42 now ..enjoying four inches of height and longer legs, since 36 (was 5'2" till late in life).
awesome way to start a sat with a new mushroom wonderland
Heck yeah!

Thank you buddy!
Thanks for sharing, that means a lot to me!
Sign of a good parent: your child appreciates the cuteness of slugs
Yesterday I found morels growing in the pots that I used for Tomatoes last summer. I harvested 8 oz. They are currently in my dehydrator.
These videos always motivate me to get out into the woods and start looking around
Woohoo mush luv thanks for getting out there and sharing your finds with us. You are awesome 😎

I live on Mt. Hood and very similar forest. So fun to see you find so much!
I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you for all your content. Definitely fun knowledge to pass on.

Definitely, they made it into my last video but I don't want to get too dang redundant!
Here in Hungary the Morel season just ended sadly😢found a lot but still sad to wait till next year
I spotted that false Morel you found just a few hours ago. Only found one Morel, but tons of beautiful Amanita's popping up!
I think I found that one in Banner Forest.
@@mushroomwonderland1 yes, close to the parking lot
Turkey tail looks perfect!
Great Hike! Thanks for the lesson.
Bravo Aaron!

love the amanitas! 🍄🍄🍄🍄
I made a tea out of the turkey tail, and used it in my dried morel cream soup. I tried the tea, not a fan. Loved the soup.
So good! Ty for your videos
10:57 "mildly fondled" is actually my new band name 😂
I'll see myself out

Good idea. I once made a really cool video about it, but I lost half of the footage, it accidently got deleted😬😒 I'll have to do it again.
Winter is over 😂 … Dumping Snow right now in Tuolumne County,Ca…. I did find my first Conk ever, in the forest Yesterday!
Turkey Tail are my all time favorite mushroom

Excellent video. Surprised no Dryad’s Saddles profiled. Maybe it’s a more east coast mushroom?
Yes, that's why. We don't have them here but I see they're flushing like crazy out east. 🤙🍄

@@misterx3188 No, I haven’t tried that. But I imagine that should work as well 🙂

Elfin saddle typically refers to the genus Helvella.
@mushroomwonderland1 I got you, was just mentioning how similar the false morels are to the elfin saddles in my area.(visually)
I have a Loki who joins me on the trail ❤

Steaming the mushrooms isn't a bad thing. It thoroughly cooks them to the middle, then remove lid and caramelize.😁
mushrooms
Hi ! Cowlitz county here! Can u tell me how many feet these grow in at this time? Im at sea level but just a 40 min from mountain levels .
Yeah these mushrooms were found right at or around sea level
@@mushroomwonderland1 thank you! We should get a group together?! I was thinking of getting a Weyerhaeuser permit to go up in the woods sometime

There are a "Pagillion" different types of mushrooms....hard to believe you cannot name all of them! 🤣
13:03 - Aren't you afraid of Echinococcus tape worm?
No, never heard of them being a problem.
