I do, too! Once I was hours from home and hiking in a national forest, and I bumped into a guy wearing a Mushroom Wonderland T-shirt! I was like Haaaaaaayyyyyy! So fun to learn about this kingdom and the relationships to others!
Personally, I love the "I said I wasn't going to say anything weird, but there I went" comment. I was laughing at the beaver story! So at least I liked it!
This video was one of my favorite videos to watch. Even my pets watched as you walked down the trails. I really enjoyed it even the “weird” stuff. I live in NW Oregon and have come upon beavers many times and it’s always surprising!!! Thank you for the great walk and talk. One of these a month would be so nice to experience.

We found some lobster mushrooms in Maine this week end. The first time for those , what a cool find. And we also picked about 5 pounds of oyster mushrooms. And a few other species. It was a very fun hunt. Thanks so much for all of your videos.

I grew up on the West side and now live in Eastern Washington. Although we have to drive a ways to hunt, we are finding huge Russula Brevipes and more Lactarius Deliciosus than we know what to do with! So many different kinds higher up over here. Love listening to you, keep rambling 😂

It feels more like I'm there, and you're sharing your knowledge of what you see around you. A great way to realize the need for practice to train the eye. I believe this form of video would be a wonderful addition to your repertoire. I would also love to see you take photographs for inaturalist. Or your own collection. How you take the pictures to how you post them.
I thought the trail looked familiar at the start, and then the trail sign confirmed. 🤣 Those trails were always so fun. I wish I knew more about mushrooms back then. I enjoyed this style of video for sure! Looks very similar to how I talk to myself out on trails.

Two of my biologist friends who were just getting into mushroom hunting many years ago mistook the Turbinellus for regular chanterelles and had a bad night of GI upset and diarrhea. Particularly unpleasant since they were camping in a tent on Rainier. Thanks for another great video!
Always like your videos Adam, I may live vicariously through you when I can't go foraging lol. I live in WV so most of the species you find don't live in my general area unfortunately. I did actually find an Ambiguous Stropharia last week which was weird but really cool since they are from your PNW. Posted it on INaturalist but it seems like odd balls don't really get checked so much, probably brought here by accident would be my guess??? On that thought, do you have an INat I can follow by any chance?

Went out today and only found about three chanterelles in very dim woods - I'm in Island county so maybe we don't have big patches of them to access... so much is private property here too.. It's fun to go looking though. I was totally unmotivated to go outside at first and then I was glad I got out. Found some Spathularia flavida and tons of patches of little coral mushrooms including black corals it seems.

I wish it would come back! Years ago it was always the best ! There has been significant decline over the years! Most likely turning into desert.

Hey great vid. I found this bolete looking yellow spongy underside and pink stem. Had a super dark leathery cap with a few what looked like bright red bumps. Not sure what it is but dang it was cool it's just a few blocks away might go back and try and identify again. Oh yea and hey where was this mushroom walk? Looks similar to my area near Seymour mountain north Vancouver. Or perhaps it's upper blueridge
My guess around the evolution of the convex curve of the cap is to maximizing the area of spread for the sprores. Less so about holding water, but maybe the water pooling there helps trigger a reaction to release more spores? Do they convex like that as they reach past maturity?

Is there any way to distinguish clitopilus prinulus from it's potential lookalikes without spore print or smelling since smell can change depending on how young the specimen is?
@@alexis1156 pretty subtle differences, these are a bit more petite and the gills aren't quite as the current but they still can be. Not a beginner ID.
@@mushroomwonderland1 I tasted it, it was very good, but I only picked it up due to the fact that the gills were literally pinkish in color. I wouldn't feel particularly comfortable picking it when the gills are still white, and smell while pretty indicative isn't really enough for me to stake my life on. Considering the lookalikes are potentially deadly I guess the 2 lookalikes grow in fields rather than forests, but still
i’m in concrete washington and only having luck with lobsters this year so far. where are you looking obviously not asking for your spots but are you out on the coast? Or does anyone have any suggestions for Concrete Wa?
Just picked some mushrooms a couple hours south of where you are, issues identifying I was sure it was either wavy cap or gallerina but when I did a spore print it was white. not rusty brown or purple brown. so now I am thoroughly stumped. definitely not going to consume but any ideas ID?
14:40 - No where close to your knowledge base, but I always thought the mushrooms arched up like that and form a 'bowl' b/c it stretches out the gills. Opens them up more to maximize spore drop, allowing the ones in the most interior recesses to drop out, before dying off. The water catching would be just incidental. But just my thought. I've never asked a mycologist.

Oregon grape root was a primary antibiotic before the advent of penicillin. 🙂 It has a ton of uses with various parts of the plant.

My cousin and I did the blind taste test and we could not tell the difference between the lobster and the Russula brevipes.
