They can be reliable to a degree if you drive like my 80 year old grandma. Slow acceleration, speed limit and no sudden acceleration. Hi everyone, I'm finally posting a new video:) Enjoy watching it. In our online video course "Car Anatomy" there are more informational videos in 3D animation. Details on our website: carinfo3d.com
Excellent explanation video, I always wondered how the diameters changed, didn’t realize it was ramping up and down to the fixed side pulley. That’s gotta be hard on that belt after 100K miles of hard driving.
I have a 2017 Honda with the CVT. There is a little lag when starting out, but not that bad. I also have a 2023 Lexus and they improved the transmission by adding an electrical assist. There is no noticeable lag, and if you floor it, it takes off immediately. I rented a 2022 Nissan with a CVT and it was junk. You could feel the car slowing and accelerating while keeping the gas pedal steady. Sometimes when coasting to a stop, it felt like the transmission was holding back the car. I was glad to return it to the airport.
"You could feel the car slowing and accelerating while keeping the gas pedal steady." This is one of the most honest CVT related statements. Exactly what manufacturers do not want car buyers to know.
Driving a 2016 Sentra gave me the exact same issues. Had the transmission die at 163,000KM, replaced it with a brand new one and it still drives like a piece of garbage. Horrible cars!
I wonder why the chain does not slip on the shafts canals when torque is applied. They seem to me pretty polished from inside and they are submerged in oil.
CVT requires careful maintenance which is to change the fluid every 30k km to 50k km the change must be complete with filters, another is the oil temperature must be below 90°C to have derabilidad, bad for the cvt which does not have a belt replacement part This means you have to change all gears and depending on the country you live in, the cost of a new one is very expensive.
makes sense why most car makers went to cvt, less complicated cheaper to make resulting in cheaper cars to sell to the public. Since this thing uses a hydraulic like lever system to change gears it makes sense to constantly change the transmission oil more times than the engine oil.
my 2016 honda civic 1.8NA engine, hit 159000 km last month, the cvt belt breaks... cost me RM19000(roughly around 4000 usd ) in honda service center, they actually just replace it with a new gearbox i repaired it in outside workshop for just RM3500( roughly around 800USD), they replaced the broken belt and reworked the torque converter
snowmobiles have had this for years. Belts sometimes let go in a very dramatic fashion, with rubber dust everywhere. Oh, and some sleds do produce upwards of 100 hp.
A lot of the jatco CVT issues were mostly due to manufacturers saying the fluid never needed changing or insufficient cooling. In Nissans case it was both.
The animation is wonderful but the concept of a belt in a transmission is terrifying. break a tooth on a gear you can get it off the road but if the belt breaks you might get killed.
Wonderful video!! Please please make a video on the Torque Converter along with the actual transmission system.🙏🏻🙏🏻 I've seen quite a few animated videos that explain Torque Converter in depth but never tell you what is before and after it -- as in how the actual shifts happen in a 6spd TC, how the transmission reacts when vehicle comes to a stop, etc.
I love your explanation on this junk gearbox,as unique as you can see how clever the engineers think when designing the cvt gearbox but I tell you don't fall for it it's the waist design mad
Soon our video course will be released and there will be a video about manual transmission. Unfortunately, we will not put this video on the channel in the near future:(
i have a question: i've heard that most of the failures on cvt is on the belt, and the preventive action is to take care the transmission oil. based on what i learned that this is PUSH belt, and based on ruclips.net/video/PQHVLH8jVc8/видео.html, is the cause of the failure often that the moveable halves did not move simultaneously, causing the 2 rings of belts slips out and made the links (elements) fall off? i've always assumed that the belts break because they were overstressed by the pulley
If pulleys are not moving simultaneously there is an oil pressure problem. Likely due to people not changing the fluid on proper intervals, and techs not doing their job and changing the filters.
Great video!! My question now is, if they(mfgs) can do this for a 3000lb car, why don't utv or atv mfgs do this for their off road products?? Polaris only just started the metal drive belt, but why is there no low gear that automaticly shifts into a high range like Toyota does?? Umm so many questions. 🤔🤔🤔
The belt changes diameter (that's not right, but you know what I mean.) That's how the torque is adjusted. It doesn't have to change gears to change gear ratios.
Hey guys I have a 2019 Honda civic I just hit 90k any tips ?? I know I’m gonna get some sarcastic answers but any REAL advice ? I love the car and would love to ride it out if I can get to st least 200
I'm not impressed at what's for sale out there these days for new vehicles. Turbos and CVT's, AWD/4WD systems, cylinder deactivation, VVT and poorly designed timing systems, low tension piston rings/oil burning, and complicated hybrid systems that are all maintenance nightmares. And if that's not bad enough, the electronic monitoring of your vehicle and how you drive in the name of "safety", the disabling of functions on your car unless you pay for a subscription (Toyota remote start) are becoming commonplace. You can keep it all.
Have you seen what American car companies are making? Let me give you a hint, Chrysler has 4 of the top ten less reliable vehicles on the market. And Ford gets another 3 spots down that list with Chevy holding 2 spots, only a few European cars and Nissan hold the other spots.
