I have been watching your history podcast from Swat valley, Pakistan. We see various Buddhists coming from around the world to visit the Buddhist remains of the past as we do have them in abundance. We also have the remains of the kushan empire, and an Italian archeologist has been doing the excavations of the sites here for more than 20 years. Swat valley was part of the Ghandara region. Plz I would really like to watch a podcast particularly focused on the history of our valley and the region.

Buddhism is a great religion and Gautam Buddha was one of India's greatest religious leaders and philosophers but unfortunately reality is Buddhism made us weak and that is why we failed to defend our country when we were invaded. really insightful podcast, But I have a doubt, why do in podcasts like this there is no map shown (I know there is one at 7:37) or kept while discussing like a teacher keeps while giving a lecture, which will be better for viewers to visualise as not all are aware with geographical terms, apart from this really loved the way Jay explains things with proper refs.
Sanskrit and Prakrit should be seen as different registers of the same language, like a literary and spoken variety of the same language. It is like, when someone writes a book or gives a formal speech, they use formal hindi, but while talking commonly, they may have colloquial usages. The person won't see them as two different languages, but rather as two different registers to be used in different circumstances. Sanskrit was probably limited to scholarly, literary and educational circles, and the prakrit form for inscriptions etc.

Lol, i learn vedic jyotish and brihat samhita could be hallucinating then lol because many concepts of vedic astrology are absent in western or yavana astrology, but there is a mention of a few techniques we got from them which we acknowledge them and even phaladeepika mentions it. The navgrahas are mentioned in vedas, which are easy older than any yavana. Also, we have so many concepts which are just not present in any western astrology concepts...

In this whole arguement I see a lot of influence of western theologies. I see too much focus on the era between 300 BC - 200 AD and too less on focus on the era before 300 BC. They are differentiating between Greeks, Scythians at the timeline being discussed, however they fail to showcase the commonality between the different cultural interactions......I was also expecting some reference of the Dashrajan War from Rig-Veda!

Be it on Indo-Pak, History, current affairs... thanks for the effort... I do have a request for you - In lot of these podcast - i feel there aren''t enough data represented from South...... they seems to be very Delhi centric... For example - 1.) There are elaborate mention of Bimsara, Ashoka... ruling a vast part of india - there are no mention of the Pandiya kings .. who have successfully repelled them from being ruled..... 2.) Be it .. in terms of area they ruled, in terms of number of years they have ruled, in terms of contribution to the History... Cholas rank much more than some of the kings we are discussing... 3.) We are discussion on Mohenjrado, harappa, and Rakhigadi, I am very curious on what was happening culturally down south (please note - i am not one of those guys, who believe in Arya invasion theory).

If your not satisfied with that then there are numerous inscriptions which have inscribed the Kali date and Saka or VIkrama date of the inscription. If you date back the number of Kali years, then it will give you 3100 BC as start of Kali yuga. Not just inscriptions, most Hindu calendars give you the Kali year, we have been counting these years thousands of years it didn’t just start a 1000 years ago. It has been written down that Maurya rule started 1500 years after Kali Yuga, so you get 1600 BC for Maurya. Btw, There is no proof at all that Megestanes visited Chandraputa Maurya because it is written that he visited Xandrames, but there is no guantee that is Maurya and not some other King with first name Chandra, there are many Emperors in History with name Chandra, there are two Chandraguptas one in Gupta and Maurya itself. Equating Xandrames to Maurya is pure guess work done by William Jones, and that formed as the Sheet anchor at 323 BC of Western telling of Indian history that all future and past events are based on.

Sanskrit and Prakrit should be seen as different registers of the same language, like a literary and spoken variety of the same language. It is like, when someone writes a book or gives a formal speech, they use formal hindi, but while talking commonly, they may have colloquial usages. The person won't see them as two different languages, but rather as two different registers to be used in different circumstances. Sanskrit was probably limited to scholarly, literary and educational circles, and the prakrit form for inscriptions etc.
Prakrit falls under MIA(Middle Indo-Aryan) languages.

In this whole arguement I see a lot of influence of western theologies. I see too much focus on the era between 300 BC - 200 AD and too less on focus on the era before 300 BC. @@rajeevkamra9120 look at the Kali year that most calendars universally use in India, that will itself give your the year of Mahabharat War. If your not satisfied with that then there are numerous inscriptions which have inscribed the Kali date and Saka or VIkrama date of the inscription. If you date back the number of Kali years, then it will give you 3100 BC as start of Kali yuga. Not just inscriptions, most Hindu calendars give you the Kali year, we have been counting these years thousands of years it didn’t just start a 1000 years ago. It has been written down that Maurya rule started 1500 years after Kali Yuga, so you get 1600 BC for Maurya. Btw, There is no proof at all that Megestanes visited Chandraputa Maurya because it is written that he visited Xandrames, but there is no guantee that is Maurya and not some other King with first name Chandra, there are many Emperors in History with name Chandra, there are two Chandraguptas one in Gupta and Maurya itself. Equating Xandrames to Maurya is pure guess work done by William Jones, and that formed as the Sheet anchor at 323 BC of Western telling of Indian history that all future and past events are based on.
