It really is barbaric how people like Boo were treated back then - with the services available to spectrum and disabled people today, a lot of them might have been able to function pretty well in society and be treated like human beings. My own grandfather as a kid had neighbors with disabled children who were shut away like Boo. He knew one boy who was made to sit in the outhouse all day and only let out after dark. He never knew what they did with him during the winter.
John F Kennedy Jr's sister was lobotomized, and no one ever visited her for her entire life. And she was from one of the most powerful and wealthy families in the country.
The “Boo Radley” character provides an important lesson that remains applicable today, “Do not make assumptions about people you do not know.. Meet them and make your own determination, independent of gossip and skewed opinions. These lessons make this a fine book and film and forever classic.
I like to think that he got a hot goth-y girlfriend once he had a little public exposure. I mean, the guy was candy. Played by young Robt. Duvall wearing eye shadow, injured little boy meets badass instrument of vengeance, good with children. That's a potent recipe.
This will always be my favorite movie. I love the exchange of looks between Scout & Boo and their walk of friendship home to Boo's house thereafter. 💜💜
I can imagine that he's a crush object for a lot of teenage girls (and grown women) who watch the movie. He's really got it all. First played by a young Robert Duvall (with eye makeup), properly butch but a little bit femme, a combination of injured little boy and badass knife-wielding instrument of vengeance. A slightly scary guy you can mother AND be protected by who has a gentle way with children. Not to mention that sweet vintage house. The dude is candy!
Lmao!! Someone said it 😅 I first saw this when I was like 11 and when the film first showed him I was like 😍 Lol Young Robert Duvall with the mcr eye makeup had me in a chokehold every time I watched it.
In the book, it is Calpurnia who describes Mr Nathan Radley as 'The meanest man God ever blew breath into,' the most elegant damnation I have ever read.
Good video, but I have one thing to add. Boo's family were foot washing baptists. In their religion, any form of pleasure is a sin. When boo's family saw him scrapbooking, they screamed that he was killing them all. I believe that Boo never hurt his father, but rather he was unintentionally damning his family to hell by pleasuring himself with the scrapbook and scissors. That's what I think the author meant.
Robert Duvall is a wonderful actor. He does does well with this non-verbal role. Boo reminds be of my older cousins & friends of my parents I used to know as a child. A lot of people only want to focus on the bad, so they forget there are genuinely kind adults out there whom will actively look out for children because it's the right thing to do.
Have wondered after considering Boo traits if he had what’s is now called Autism Spectrum. I have family with such. Highly intelligent but focused to point of expense of other activities, nonverbal varies by person, but avoids violence unless placed in self defense situations in themselves or friends. Easy misunderstood and victim of bullying.
Just like another favorite, "Huck Finn", I love this. Constantly mis-interpreted as racist these stories show racism in stark relief. An evil that should not be tolerated. Mark Twain and Harper Lee should be celebrated. They were anti-racists long before it became fashionable and fashionable it should stay.
Great comment!! I frequently point out to my English classes how far Twain went out on a limb to speak out against racism, as well as what a noble character Atticus Finch is !!
Fun fact- I thought Boo was not a human, but a hoblin or gnome, until my dad said Boo was an adult, maybe I saw him in this film years ago, but forgot he was actually a reclusive human, not a reclusive hermit/non human who was dangerous.
In the book: They said Tom climbed the fence trying to escaped,(factoring Tom's left hand is disabled) he got shot more 40 times. You reckon they just shot him because he was coloured? - Tate stated to Atticus that Bob fell and stab himself. Atticus was stubborn. You reckon Boo stabbed Bob?
I've started a playlist of "people I would want in my neighborhood" & Atticus Finch & family are among those that initially came to mind. I'm adding this video, bc this man is a gentle, protective, caring, creative soul & would be a welcome asset. How nice to have a fellow introvert to nod to as we sat on our porch swings.
Boo left the south went to Harvard became a lawyer for one of the finest olive oil importing companies in the world. Oh I forgot before practicing law he served in namand called an airstrike on the enemy!
He didn't let Tessio off the hook for old time's sake because the phrase "old time's sake" reminded him of his younger days and the cruelty of his father.
Much missing. A mysterious character that nobody knows? Boo lived alone, so he had to go the market periodically, and do some kind of work for hire. He would be known to the community through these interactions. It seems the adults know him, but the story is told through the children's eyes, who see only imaginative mystery.
Actually he lived with Nathan, his brother. Nathan Radley is described as a cold and cruel man who basically abuses his brother. Nathan is the one that goes out to get groceries whereas Boo wasn’t seen in years due to his forced recluse.
I don’t get how being a lawyer it took Atticus so long to understand that boo killed bob ewell protecting the kids. The sheriff is right Boo is so shy, fearful and timid a public trial and limelight would traumatize if not outright kill him.
I saw this movie when I ten or so. It exposed me to racism and reclusive neighbors which I had never seen or heard of. Sixty years later I have a reclusive neighbor, I talk with him, no one else does, memories of this show return.
Spoilers: Boo Radley is actually Bull Meechum. A great fighter pilot -- so great that he dubs himself "The Great Santini." While his take-no-prisoners attitude and willingness to fight has served him well in the military, he's unable to turn it off at home. Eventually his competitive nature and abusive behavior take their toll on his relationships with his wife and his rebellious 18-year-old son after a friendly father-and-son basketball game turns ugly.
Boo Radley was a gentle person given the illusion of terror by the people who couldn't understand him.
Boo Radley is the definition of "dont judge a book by its cover."
It's a sin "To Kill a Mockingbird" 2 "mockingbirds" were in the novel. Tom Robinson and Arthur Radley.
Robert Duvall had such a handsome face too his smile was heartwarming

Robert Duvall & Gregory Peck were both so handsome in this film & Atticus is the ultimate quietly authoritative man.
My favorite book and movie. I have always wanted to know what happened to Boo. I hope he found peace.

He went on to serve in nam and order a napalm strike so he could smell the fumes in the morning.
This will always be my favorite movie. I love the exchange of looks between Scout & Boo and their walk of friendship home to Boo's house thereafter.
💜💜
I just read the book for school. I can’t wait to watch the movie for my enjoyment.
Thought provoking book
Often wonder what HARPER LEE views on racism 🤔

Alllllrighty then.... 😉!
Not so sure he'd have been on board with that, LoL......
But yep, quite a combination
Boo is the Mockingbird. He "sings" to the children, but is too shy too show himself
Boo Radley was such a good character i wish people can be such kind and protective
It took me years to figure out what the title meant. “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
In the book, it is Calpurnia who describes Mr Nathan Radley as 'The meanest man God ever blew breath into,' the most elegant damnation I have ever read.
Calpurnia was a good egg.
What a beautiful ending, and the narration is overwhelmingly so emotional that my eyes literally tear up!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
the way u explained him was perfect made me love him even more

@Cassie K Where Miss Maudie was working in the garden I think
What do you mean pleasuring himself with the scrapbook?
Appreciating your own work
The Radley family are insane for their religion. Baptists my ass.
@@REMNANTRising2005 he was doing something that made him happy, not "pleasuring himself" that way
The medal in the box males me believe Arthur "Boo" Radley was suffering from PTSD from war.
The book is clear that he was as described in the clip
It was a spelling medal, an award that used to be given to students who won a spelling bee.
He was not in the war!
I thought he had autism
@@mariedewitt5033nah was for spelling. His got autism. His symbol of what is good and pure. Innocence but not taken normal because his different.
Hes an angel

That was the first time I saw a young-looking Robert Duvall. I'm used to seeing him as a much older man.
(I've always wanted to give Boo Radley a hug)
From the finest film I have ever seen.
Boo might have seen some things. But he knows kindness and doesn't care about local legend. A top tier human.
Robert Duvall is Hot. period.

You are right about Mark Twain butby the time Harper Lee came to right To kill a Mocking Bird it was very much fashionable to be against racism.
Your synopsis is really well done 👍😎 Thank you!!
Never seen Robert Duvall with hair on his head before this, and probably never will again after.
He had a pretty good head of hair in the godfather
BOO IS SO FUCKING ADORABLE LIKE OH MY GOD -
Fun fact- I thought Boo was not a human, but a hoblin or gnome, until my dad said Boo was an adult, maybe I saw him in this film years ago, but forgot he was actually a reclusive human, not a reclusive hermit/non human who was dangerous.
I loved Robert Duvall in this film! His acting was so beautifully executed,no one could of played Boo better.
He was Alfred Robert Boulware (1910-1952) and lived four houses away from the Lees. These, and "Dill's" aunt's house no longer exist.
"Will you take me home?"
I imagine many a teenage girl was thinking the same thing while watching the movie
@@Euthymialmao
Atticus Finch and Boo Radley. We have been graced with these Righteous men that duly abide.🙏😇😇
Thank you for your explanation😘
Were ALL like boo now
This video hits me in the feels.
Most assuredly a Master Soul come back to teach the rest of us .humility.🤔🤗🙏😇
I can never get over this movie ❤️🌹
I gotta write a paper on this and have I no idea what to do
In the book:
They said Tom climbed the fence trying to escaped,(factoring Tom's left hand is disabled) he got shot more 40 times. You reckon they just shot him because he was coloured?
-
Tate stated to Atticus that Bob fell and stab himself. Atticus was stubborn.
You reckon Boo stabbed Bob?
Im named after this book.
Great work
Boo and Swingblade would be good friends.
One of my favorite movies!
All Boo wanted to do was play with the kids. He just didn't know how.
Robert Duvall is the most diverse actor I can think of!
In reality he was Sling Blade's daddy.
I have been victim to severe racism and torture. I immediately understood that Boo is not what he seems to be.
What do you mean by that?.
One of the best books, movies, and acting I have ever seen. @!@!!
Thank you

Nice one
Anyone here watching this in english class? No? Just me? Okay T^T

If you’ll notice, there is a valor medal from in the box. War medal of some sort.
Duvall at his very finest
Took me awhile to figure out that was Robert Duvall
Can I instead call him Arthur ?
The character shown here reminded me of Boo Berry cereal.
I wouldn't call Boo killing Bob Ewell murder
Gigachad Radley
Boo's father was not an abuser.
this did not tell us the truth about the Radleys at all
I saw this movie when I ten or so.

How so? Omg this is new
@@simplyjournal6665 they were portrayed by the same actor. Other than that, there's really nothing else that makes him Bull Meechum.
Where did you come up with this nonsense??
It's time to remake this movie. The book is a classic.
No, just reclusive!
Nothing wrong with the movie but the proper source material should be the novel.
