Asha Ray-C. Right. I think it’s a strange thing to not touch on. Innocence was the major motif of the book- Tom Robinson is legally innocent (more than Maycomb thinks), Boo Radley is socially innocent (more than Maycomb thinks- him and Tom parallel each other, obviously), and Atticus’s kids (particularly Jem) lose innocence through coming-of-age. The mockingbird can be shown to represent those particular circumstances where innocence is portrayed multiple times (for example Atticus sacrifices presenting the Ewells kindly in order to protect Tom, not because he’s defenseless, but because Atticus knows Tom is ‘innocent’ in court and Atticus is nothing if not fair legally) (and as the children walk home from the Halloween pageant, a single mockingbird is in the trees), so missing it is missing a lot of the symbolism.
@@orangejuice1869 Duh. I believe he was talking about the air gun thingies Jem and Scout got for Christmas. Atticus said: _"Shoot all the bluejays you want,if you can hit 'em,but remember, it's a sin to kill a mockingbird"_

Even today, many people my age have completely forgotten these lessons in life, and continue to punish the weak believing their righteousness. Many cower by associating themselves with groups and ideologies and continue to argue with others in groups just like them, but believe otherwise. Man I feel sorry for the kids who are watching this to understand the book instead of actually reading it. It's actually a really great novel, definitely a must read. I remember reading it a few years ago when I was in grade 11. Wish I could go back to those days haha
I never had to read this book for class but I read it in 7th grade and again recently with the goal of understanding ,,really a much unappreciated book worth reading
For me, the most touching scene in the movie adaptation was when the black people stood up when Atticus Finch left the courtroom. For me, it was not the respect that they paid that touched me but the manner in which Atticus Finch left the room. It tells me that he felt guilty and ashamed that, he could not save that innocent man's life. I guess it appeals to me because although humans have gone so far in issues like slavery and discrimination against race, religion, gender and sexual preferences, we still have so far to go. For instance. The killing and torture of animals for food. The destruction of their natural habitats and probably many other issues that I am still too naive to see. The guilt and shame I felt for being part of it allows me to empathize with the moment Atticus Finch left the room. The mocking bird in the title to me represents Atticus Finch. He is the man who who sings the ''truth''. To try to live his life in the right way in an unjust society but instead of being rewarded, he put his loved ones lives in danger. Since to kill his children's life is to kill him, thus the title ''to kill a mocking bird.'' Society's punishment for people who speak up for what is right in a society does wrong.
+MnMPryoBanana I was thinking more along the lines that Tom Robinson is the mockingbird, in the sense that he is innocent, and all he did was try to help someone. Yet, the racial barriers of Maycomb have "killed" this symbolic mockingbird.

I’ve read this book multiple times and I absolutely adore it. I really appreciate how explicit the author kept the information, but in a way that we can really infer and analyze the text. You can debate about this book, which is very nice. It leaves a big mystery to it. Because in the text, there is no obvious conflict. I believe that the conflict was that all of the lessons about the world were not yet understood until the end of the book (the conclusion) where it is understood why you shouldn’t kill mockingbirds. I’ve never personally had a lesson at school on this (probably because I’m just in seventh grade), but I still love to read this book ever once in a while.
"The title of To Kill a Mockingbird has very little literal connection to the plot, but it carries a great deal of symbolic weight in the book. In this story of innocents destroyed by evil, the “mockingbird” comes to represent the idea of innocence. Thus, to kill a mockingbird is to destroy innocence."

Harper Lee, this book is the first "important" book I ever read, all these yeas ago . . . 60 years ago, and set me on a path of reading for all these following 60 years. The greatest guide I ever had, thank you Harper Lee
The first time I read this book was on vacation. My dad took my phone because he didn’t want me looking at a screen the whole time and got me this book from a store across from the hotel we were staying at. I was pissed, so I decided not to read it out of pettiness, but boredom got the best of me. I started reading the book and I don’t know how much time had passed but when I finally looked up from reading, my dad had this smartass grin on his face and I couldn’t even be mad. I read the book for the entire trip back home and even after we got back. I eventually got my phone back, but I didn’t even look at it until I finished the book. If you haven’t read this book yet for yourself, go do that, I highly recommend it.
I was assigned 3 books to read over the summer heading into my Senior year. This book, things fall apart, and A Tale Of Two Cities. Between working 40 hours a week and reading the other two books, I just didn't have time to read this one. So thanks for helping me out with this video!
I've read the book numerous times and watched the movie a couple of times as well, and each time I am in awe of how great a writer Harper Lee was. This book is the book that really made me put myself in the shoes of others, and it is one of my top favourite novels of all time 💜
It's quite strange to see all these western kids saying that "we are just here because tommorow is our exam about it". But I'm here because I've read this novel by myself without any teacher or institution. And I'm also a teenager. This makes u realise how the flavour of a book can be vanished if you force it into the minds of unwilling person. To anyone reading this. Takes joy in every word u read. God bless
I read this book years ago when I was in Junior High (aka middle school). No one made me. I was spending a week at my grandmother's house and was very bored. She had a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird handy so I thought I would read it. It was very interesting to me and I did not put it down until I was done. I enjoyed the story but have to admit that I cannot say that I understood all the lessons that this video presents. I was pretty young, I was just a voracious reader. The movie is pretty faithful to the book so I would recommend the movie to those who have trouble reading this book. But I would encourage people to read the book if at all possible. It is a tale well told.
Someday I hope you will realize that every time you skate through a class, you reinforce the habit of cheating and laziness. It becomes a pattern for your life and will affect you in college or your job. The people who actually put in the work get the rewards--emotional and financial. You will probably work for one of those people some day.
@@trunchqin4292 it's been 6 years. I honestly dont remember 😂 but I'm pretty sure I passed as I rarely failed exams in high school. That is.. until I made it to college

Damn, it actually kills me to see that “test tomorrow...” and I’d be a HYPOCRITE to pass judgement, but people (that’re hopefully only like 4-5 years younger) PLEASE read this book. You will NOT regret it.
Thank you so much for this recap. I haven't touched or reviewed TKAM since my 9th grade year. Now I'm in my 11th grade year and my Advanced Placement English class is going back and reviewing the power and lessons provided by Harper Lee. You have helped me recap everything I have forgotten and learn more. Again, thanks and keep up the amazing work. Hopefully this video can help a future student much like myself acquire the same results as I.
I don't have any exam on this book tomorrow! But I just wanted to thank you for the pictures that u made. They exactly showed how stubborn Scout was. ❤️
Thank you for this video. I have read most of the book and this was in my suggestions list. I really appreciate that you took the time to do this. (Sometimes reading books and watching summaries of the books can help me understand the story better. (It can be difficult to dissect the meanings.)) Thanks Again!
Im not here fro any sort of English test ... Somehow i got to learn about this novel. Being amazed by the wise quotes taken from this novel , i thought a summary could give me a quick understanding. And this video did a great job!
Yeah the video excluded a lot of small characters that you had to keep track of in the book, probably why this video was so much easier to digest, never watched the movie
I was supposed to read To Kill A Mockingbird a few years back, but I had not yet learnt to properly analyse literature then, and could not fully comprehend and appreciate the themes and how Harper Lee brilliantly brings out her arguments and viewpoints on so many issues, packaged in such an easy-to-read narrative. Now I've just finished my A levels (had to read and analyse literature texts that are much tougher to read, like The Scarlet Letter) and found my copy of this book with some pages turning yellow as I had kept it in my drawers for years. It's amazing to finish reading this book, actually understand it, analyse and formulate my own opinions on this book with my greater ability to analyse literature now. I'm enjoying this subject even after my major exams have ended :)
This is exactly why I hate reading. I feel like I'm missing something to understand and follow along any book. To me they're just words on a page. That and I forget everything by time I reach the 2nd page.
Fun fact: the characterization of Dill was based on Harper's friend Truman Capote, whom was an award winning writer in his own right, and friend since childhood.
geez!! thank you for simplifying this for me! please replace my English teacher! they over analyze everything and its so stupid, they just leave students to be utterly confused about stuff. UGH. anyway, thanks for saving my ass on my essay
if you're confused why don't you just raise you hand and ask your teacher to explain it to you. it's better than not saying anything then getting a test and failing.
Thank you for loading this video up :) We have to read that book in school and it helped quite a lot to understand the whole story. I've also never really thought about the four lessons that scout get's tought. Ps sry for my english i'm german
I heard about the book but never read it after watching the video was so impressed, I am heading to Barnes and Noble to buy the book . Thank you for the overview.
Read this book when I was 12/13 years old and didn't really understand that much but thought it was a decent book. I read it yet again and finished it today and I must say, it's the best book I've read in my life and I have read well over a hundred books!

I’m here because over the summer I was supposed to read this book and write an essay, neither of which I did. the essay is due tomorrow.
same and it’s due tomorrow
Same I’m finna just copy this for my essay lol
I've read the book numerous times and watched the movie a couple of times as well, and each time I am in awe of how great a writer Harper Lee was. This book is the book that really made me put myself in the shoes of others, and it is one of my top favourite novels of all time 💜
I can't express how much I love the illustrations in this video. Thank you so much.
lol ten years later and it’s still being watched.
yup🤣
english exams are still being made
Love tf out of sparknotes. Saves everyone's grades
This is a great summary of the book I hope I pass my test tomorrow in honors english
BatARTist what did you get
It's quite strange to see all these western kids saying that "we are just here because tommorow is our exam about it".
What a beautiful story about growing up
When I first heard of the book, I thought it was named *Tequila Mockingbird*
TrapDrap YG HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHA
Hahaha
And when i first listened the lyrics of senorita "tequila sunrise" i thought it was "to kill a sunrise"
✨Tequila Mockingbird✨
watching this as a refresher for the midterm... read it a few months ago before break
Thank you so much for this video! Cuz i have finals tomorrow and want the story fresh in my head
Let's all be honest and we're all here cause we have a test in this tomorrow and didn't read any of the book
Hahah yupx3
Not a bit of it! 😂
There's a test!?!?
Someday I hope you will realize that every time you skate through a class, you reinforce the habit of cheating and laziness. It becomes a pattern for your life and will affect you in college or your job. The people who actually put in the work get the rewards--emotional and financial. You will probably work for one of those people some day.
yup
I "forgot" to read the book for my test...
BAHAHAHAA SAME
you forgot, i didnt want to read it
@@trunchqin4292 it's been 6 years. I honestly dont remember 😂 but I'm pretty sure I passed as I rarely failed exams in high school. That is.. until I made it to college
Like if this is going to help you in a English test

@@priyankagamer8845 bless you 😂
Am I the only one who actually enjoyed reading this book?
lol, i reallly like this book too
Tucker Apgar
I liked the book
Tucker Apgar the book is good it’s just that there are so many characters and there are so many details to keep track of
I love this book SO MUCH
I also like this book but I procrastinated it too much and I read really slow so I'm now watching videos the day before I need to have the book finished
Damn, it actually kills me to see that “test tomorrow...” and I’d be a HYPOCRITE to pass judgement, but people (that’re hopefully only like 4-5 years younger) PLEASE read this book. You will NOT regret it.
I finally read this in my mid thirties. I was unerwhelmed initially, but of all the books I've read - this one stays with me.
nice summary, really clears things up
THIS SAVED MY A$$ BECAUSE I HAVE A TEST ON FRIDAY GOD BLESS
I'm here not because of exams coming up but truly love the book
Im watching this while taking the test, thanks man you're a real life saver
fam I wasn't tryna watch a 2 houre movie. thanks a lot for that brief explanation because I passed my English class with ur info. god bless you.
This is honestly probably one of if not, the best book ivr read
Thxs i swear this helped me soo much in my english class
Auditioning for the part of scout for a show! Thanks for giving me info on what the character is like :)
Bro appreciate it so much I didn’t read it and this video literally summarize the whole book
Am I the only one here because I watch these things for fun?
you're not the only one.
+The Akward Kid me too!
+The Akward Kid akward...
+The Akward Kid well if i had time i would probably read for fun but since i don't Im forced to read thistbh i like this book...
nah bro, im actually here for a school project, and god damn this sure helped me save a lot of time instead of reading the actual book lol😂
not the best narration but damn you saved my ass on this essay!!
Crazy seeing theses comments from years ago and I’m just starting to read it
exam in 3 hours and i’m only studying now thanks spark notes ur a real one 💯
I don't have any exam on this book tomorrow! But I just wanted to thank you for the pictures that u made. They exactly showed how stubborn Scout was. ❤️
Thank you for this video. I have read most of the book and this was in my suggestions list. I really appreciate that you took the time to do this. (Sometimes reading books and watching summaries of the books can help me understand the story better. (It can be difficult to dissect the meanings.)) Thanks Again!
The illustrations in the video looked like screenshots from an animated movie.
No they don't, they look like pictures from a poorly illustrated picture book
Saved me hours of reading XD Gave me hours of skating!"
Im not here fro any sort of English test ... Somehow i got to learn about this novel. Being amazed by the wise quotes taken from this novel , i thought a summary could give me a quick understanding. And this video did a great job!
I have to write a summary about this tomorrow and this really helped thanks
Mrs. Dubose made such an impact when I read the story, but neither this nor the movie included her.. ;=; Poor Dubose
Yeah the video excluded a lot of small characters that you had to keep track of in the book, probably why this video was so much easier to digest, never watched the movie
Ok but that ham costume though. WHO IN THE RIGHT MIND WOULD ATTACK SOMEONE IN THAT HAM COSTUME
Who's here bcuz they've got an exam on this tomorrow
I just want to applaud the illustrator for getting the ham costume on point. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OMFG I LOVE THIS VIDEO. I HAD A TEST ON THIS, I DIDNT EVEN READ A SINGLE WORD OF THAT BOOK AND MANAGED TO PASS WITH A 61 😂😂 THANK YOU SPARKNOTES❤️❤️
61 is really bad
i have a 50 question test on it tmrw and i’m hoping for the best.
You did yourself a disservice by not reading this masterpiece.
I am legitimately watching this in class before a test
“Thank you sparknotes” we all say in unison
I didn’t understand the movie, this video makes it all so much clearer.
this is amazing!!! Very good explanations! Thank u sooo much for doing this, u must have spent a lot of effort in this video
geez!! thank you for simplifying this for me! please replace my English teacher! they over analyze everything and its so stupid, they just leave students to be utterly confused about stuff. UGH. anyway, thanks for saving my ass on my essay
Same thing with me for R/J.
if you're confused why don't you just raise you hand and ask your teacher to explain it to you. it's better than not saying anything then getting a test and failing.
i angel Most teachers don't give a good/clear answer, at least for me.
Thank you for loading this video up :)
We have to read that book in school and it helped quite a lot to understand the whole story.
I've also never really thought about the four lessons that scout get's tought.
Ps sry for my english i'm german
The bit of this video about the trial really helped me, thank you!
Thank you, it's been so long I've been meaning to read it.
i didn't even read the whole book and know the whole thing :) really helpful
This man is an absolute legend. He saved us all.
Rest In Peace, Harper
I heard about the book but never read it after watching the video was so impressed, I am heading to Barnes and Noble to buy the book . Thank you for the overview.
Read this book when I was 12/13 years old and didn't really understand that much but thought it was a decent book. I read it yet again and finished it today and I must say, it's the best book I've read in my life and I have read well over a hundred books!
Y10 English exam thanks for helping us 👏🏼❤️
who else is here because they simply enjoy literature and find those animations and summaries entertaining, and not some lazy kid who don't wanna read an amazing book for a test.
I read and enjoyed the book but now I'm panicking because I have an essay on this tommorow

What you got? Lmao

Bro just saved my grade
Ah, SparkNotes. For when you didn't read the book and the essay is due tomorrow.
Edit: I got an A! Thanks for making this, I would never have done so well without it LOL
congrats!!!
Am I only one who don't have a exam and genuinely like the book
have read the book and seen the black and white movie for several times, still can't get over it. my #1 favorite. ❤
For any of you middle/high schoolers watching this in lieu of reading the book. No shame. We have all been there. But after you have finished your test, which I can only assume is tomorrow, please do yourself a favour and read this touching masterpiece. It is an American classic for a reason. XOXO from the Netherlands.
