The truth of the matter is that ole BOO experienced a life change, walked through the “Twilight Zone” of self realization, went to live and study law in NYC, lived in Brooklyn, met lifelong friends named Michael and Sonny, became a lawyer and eventually went to work for Mike and Sonny’s dad, Vito.
I read this book the autumn when it came out in 1960. I was 10 and it was an extra credit reading assignment. It is still one of my favorite books. I have a copy of the book in my library and have read it many times, including reading it to my 2 sons individually (they are 9 years apart). I saw the movie in high school (another school assignment). The movie does the book justice and I've seen it at least 3 times. My grandson will be 10 this September. His present will be a copy of this book. I know his father will read it to/with him, as I did with him. He'll find out about this movie shortly after on his own, I'm sure. The lessons Harper Lee taught me in her book have stayed with me all my life. Thank you for providing a glimpse into Boo's personality.
Reading the book as a teenager, decades ago, I formed the impression that Boo (so pale and reclusive) might have been an albino... It seemed a wonderful balance to the negro themes.
I don’t get how being a lawyer it took Atticus so long to understand that boo killed bob ewell protecting the kids. The sheriff is right Boo is so shy, fearful and timid a public trial and limelight would traumatize if not outright kill him.
The “Boo Radley” character provides an important lesson that remains applicable today, “Do not make assumptions about people you do not know.. Meet them and make your own determination, independent of gossip and skewed opinions. These lessons make this a fine book and film and forever classic.
I saw this movie when I ten or so. It exposed me to racism and reclusive neighbors which I had never seen or heard of. Sixty years later I have a reclusive neighbor, I talk with him, no one else does, memories of this show return.
Robert Duvall is a wonderful actor. He does does well with this non-verbal role. Boo reminds be of my older cousins & friends of my parents I used to know as a child. A lot of people only want to focus on the bad, so they forget there are genuinely kind adults out there whom will actively look out for children because it's the right thing to do.
I've started a playlist of "people I would want in my neighborhood" & Atticus Finch & family are among those that initially came to mind. I'm adding this video, bc this man is a gentle, protective, caring, creative soul & would be a welcome asset. How nice to have a fellow introvert to nod to as we sat on our porch swings.
Much missing. A mysterious character that nobody knows? Boo lived alone, so he had to go the market periodically, and do some kind of work for hire. He would be known to the community through these interactions. It seems the adults know him, but the story is told through the children's eyes, who see only imaginative mystery.
Actually he lived with Nathan, his brother. Nathan Radley is described as a cold and cruel man who basically abuses his brother. Nathan is the one that goes out to get groceries whereas Boo wasn’t seen in years due to his forced recluse.
Have wondered after considering Boo traits if he had what’s is now called Autism Spectrum. I have family with such. Highly intelligent but focused to point of expense of other activities, nonverbal varies by person, but avoids violence unless placed in self defense situations in themselves or friends. Easy misunderstood and victim of bullying.
In the book, it is Calpurnia who describes Mr Nathan Radley as 'The meanest man God ever blew breath into,' the most elegant damnation I have ever read.
I can imagine that he's a crush object for a lot of teenage girls (and grown women) who watch the movie. He's really got it all. First played by a young Robert Duvall (with eye makeup), properly butch but a little bit femme, a combination of injured little boy and badass knife-wielding instrument of vengeance. A slightly scary guy you can mother AND be protected by who has a gentle way with children. Not to mention that sweet vintage house. The dude is candy!
Lmao!! Someone said it 😅 I first saw this when I was like 11 and when the film first showed him I was like 😍 Lol Young Robert Duvall with the mcr eye makeup had me in a chokehold every time I watched it.
It really is barbaric how people like Boo were treated back then - with the services available to spectrum and disabled people today, a lot of them might have been able to function pretty well in society and be treated like human beings. My own grandfather as a kid had neighbors with disabled children who were shut away like Boo. He knew one boy who was made to sit in the outhouse all day and only let out after dark. He never knew what they did with him during the winter.
John F Kennedy Jr's sister was lobotomized, and no one ever visited her for her entire life. And she was from one of the most powerful and wealthy families in the country.

2:55 muh racism. Zzzzzzzzzz
I believe Boo has autism, he shows alot of the symptoms of it with being awkward socially, however extremely intelligent and compassionate.

Atticus Finch and Boo Radley. We have been graced with these Righteous men that duly abide.🙏😇😇
Most assuredly a Master Soul come back to teach the rest of us .humility.🤔🤗🙏😇
I think he was autistic.

That was the first time I saw a young-looking Robert Duvall. I'm used to seeing him as a much older man. (I've always wanted to give Boo Radley a hug)

Yeah, um... no. He's a creepy incel.

The character shown here reminded me of Boo Berry cereal.

this did not tell us the truth about the Radleys at all

I loved Robert Duvall in this film! His acting was so beautifully executed,no one could of played Boo better.
Gigachad Radley
Boo might have seen some things. But he knows kindness and doesn't care about local legend. A top tier human.
No, just reclusive!
If you’ll notice, there is a valor medal from in the box. War medal of some sort.
One of my favorite movies!

boo radley is autistic like me, hope and pray autistic folk would find self control and good conciousness.
One of the best books, movies, and acting I have ever seen. @!@!!
All Boo wanted to do was play with the kids. He just didn't know how.
I wouldn't call Boo killing Bob Ewell murder

It's time to remake this movie. The book is a classic.
Boo's father was not an abuser.
Nothing wrong with the movie but the proper source material should be the novel.
He was Alfred Robert Boulware (1910-1952) and lived four houses away from the Lees. These, and "Dill's" aunt's house no longer exist.
Robert Duvall is the most diverse actor I can think of!
Boo is the Mockingbird. He "sings" to the children, but is too shy too show himself
BOO IS SO FUCKING ADORABLE LIKE OH MY GOD -
Never seen Robert Duvall with hair on his head before this, and probably never will again after.
He had a pretty good head of hair in the godfather
In the book, it is Calpurnia who describes Mr Nathan Radley as 'The meanest man God ever blew breath into,' the most elegant damnation I have ever read.
Calpurnia was a good egg.

FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Alllllrighty then.... 😉!
Not so sure he'd have been on board with that, LoL...... But yep, quite a combination
Boo Radley might have been autistic...or had some sort of brain damage, perhaps because of a lack of oxygen during birth.
This video hits me in the feels.
Took me awhile to figure out that was Robert Duvall
It took me years to figure out what the title meant. “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
Who is Bob Yule? The father of the girl who was raped?
I can never get over this movie ❤️🌹

Yet you probably laugh at "incels" and shut-ins of today. You're no different than those whom you criticise.
Im named after this book.
What a beautiful ending, and the narration is overwhelmingly so emotional that my eyes literally tear up!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Your synopsis is really well done 👍😎 Thank you!!
Thank you
The medal in the box males me believe Arthur "Boo" Radley was suffering from PTSD from war.
The book is clear that he was as described in the clip
It was a spelling medal, an award that used to be given to students who won a spelling bee.
He was not in the war!
I thought he had autism
@@mariedewitt5033nah was for spelling. His got autism. His symbol of what is good and pure. Innocence but not taken normal because his different.
