@God IS Love 'Cuz when you lie you get creative. You'd hear somebody telling about when they got in trouble for thinking about nothing, and then you'd make up a new story on the spot. When lying the goal is to avoid getting caught, stay out of trouble, and be creative enough to avoid whatever happened to somebody else.
Instead, the story is universal, no matter how much trouble it gets us in. If we had any other answer to give, we'd have tried it by now - even if we aren't sure if it's a better answer or a worse one.

I think there is often the misconception that thinking about nothing is a willful decision. It's not like one decides to think about nothing at a certain moment and "bang" it works. At least in my case. It's most likely to happen when i am comfortable listening to music for example, or have some mildly challenging activity while being comfortable. (doesn't work without feeling comfortable to some degree)
And it's not the same as when i have a challenging activity that needs 100% concentration. This also feels refreshing and relaxing to my mind and mood. But it's not thinking about nothing it's thinking about the activity so intense that all unrelated other thoughts get no recources during that time. (i trained on that ability long ago while being in hospital reading books. I focused on them so much that i wouldn't hear the idiotic conversations my hosiptal-roommate watched on the tv the whole afternoon. Took me almost a week to master that. And almost 20 years later i still can't read anything in a waiting room as i won't notice if my name is called 🤷‍♂️)

In Denmark, when people ask you, "how are you doing?" it's the norm to actually answer with a couple of sentences. It throwed me off, when I first started talking with some of the American exchange students at my university, since it was used as a greeting only 😅 To danes it would be really passive aggressive not to answer and kind of "I don't want to be your friend" if the person just answer with "good" 🙈 But I could tell I broke the expected norm for them, when I actually answered with a little life or day update 😆

@@buggyapp while I hear what you are saying... to many people, being vulnerable is scary. Just pressuring someone into opening up and sharing isn’t going to do it.
Calling someone stupid, or the like, for not opening up...just shows profound lack of awareness of human nature.
Vulnerability is learned. It is also earned. More than the questions, if you demonstrate safety, lack of judgement, and genuine care and curiosity...people will feel safer to be real.
There are many defense mechanisms at play when people don’t want to open up. Being cognizant of this is imperative to being a trusted confidant.
Lastly, attachment styles are huge in understanding people’s comfort with disclosing their personal, deeper, realities. For example, a dismissive avoidant person is kind of stuck in fight/flight/freeze mode. Even if they appear aloof, closed off, they are very self protective and won’t disclose much at all to anyone. It takes extraordinary patience and understanding, for them to open up even a little.
And there are so many different types of people...those who have no boundaries and share too much...
The perfect blend is one who can tell who is safe to share with and there is reciprocity in disclosure.
Brene brown has great info on who it is safe to share with...and it’s not everyone.

It's not so much an exception among men, as most men I know (myself included) are usually preoccupied with thoughts, it's just that men and women tend to think about different sorts of things. This is a stereotype, although like many stereotypes there is some statistical truth, and generally speaking men tend to think about things and how to do things or how to accomplish certain goals, while women generally tend to devote more time to thinking about other people, what they're thinking, and how to interface with them socially. The comedian here is just using the old comedy trope of "Ugh, men dumb, women smart". Or maybe he has a lot of dumb, unthinking male friends, I don't know. In my experience, the difference is a lot more about what than whether.

Please understand that I am not trying to be rude here... But how? I was fairly sure it was a universal experience for women to have heard men say this, and often, because I can extrapolate from talking with other men (and my own experience), that it's certainly a universal experience saying it. It would be like being surprised that ice cubes were cold.

As a man I feel it's necessary for me to chime in... I've never been able to think of nothing in my life. I got this passive stream of stories going on in my brain so I'm pretty much thinking but in the background and almost entirely unrelated to anything happening cause my brain is just writing fantasy and daydreaming like a raging rapid... I don't exactly have ADHD so much as I brain that works in stories... Even math for me was always viewed as a plot for whatever reason which is how I ended up looking at the numbers a lot in math class then writing down the answer and having no clue what the process was cause my brain was just giving a plot summary. So I've never been thinking of nothing but rarely am I thinking of something...

The ex asked me what I was thinking once. Told her, I'm thinking about getting some trash bags and a machete and cleansing the neighborhood again.
She said that she'd never ask that question again. To her credit she didn't

Fantastic! After all those many number of years of experience means somethin'.
I loved it. If I was in the US I would have definitely paid to go watch his one of the live shows.

And then the men's underwear habits. LoL.
