Hi there boys. I have a 1FZ-FE sitting in my shed awaiting full forged internals & a couple of nice cams. She to go in my 62 series Landcruser biuld. I have a little m30 Ellison Supercharger & a performance intake manifold for the build so fare. So I'm looking forward to seeing the follow on of this 1FZ-fe series biuld your show...
Figured a turbo setup would really wake things up. I know my lx450 could use it. Hope all is well over there. Been seeing some crazy shiz going on in Australia.
I’ve got to be honest it looks to me like the piston rings weren’t gapped correctly, that kind of damage in my experience only occurs that way as like you say its strange to not see any damage to the piston crowns if it has gone lean for some time.
Hey nice build looking forward to seeing some more of it. Question. Cyl 1 lean out? Could it be possible it was flooding/over fuelling?? I had a reconditioned engine go in under 5000kms due to flooding was washing the cylinder walls and it picked up cylinder 1 skirt.... If it was running lean I would expect there to me more piston crown damage. Keen to hear your thoughts.
1fz is the engine family, there was only 1 variant hence no 2fz. FE is the head spec, F = narrow valve angle, E = efi As soon as I saw the block I thought of when brake rotors get really hot they can turn a whitish colour, but this must be paint, yes?
@@BoostGumps yeah h150 , held up fine since the conversion in 2011. 230kw 650nm ish from memory atw. Just stay away from the 4 terrain clutches. Wouldn't hold 3rd doing dirt pumpies and would slip in 5th at 178kmph and climbing trying to do a top speed record of the cruiser. Part time 4b with front hubs though not awd. Mines the 105 1fz-fe with coil pack not the 80 series with dizzy. I think they have different height pistons and different length intake. Dont know if that would make a difference to the problem with the one your working on.
Clintonio Calla awesome good to hear! We had a H150 behind the 350 chev in ours (before we went to the twin turbo LS) and we found it got unhappy very quick! That being said it was 400,000 kms old
Hey guys, Just found the channel and love your work. Where or how did this motor end up please? I'm keen(and others are too) to see what the final build and figures were? TIA
Hey scott, glad you are enjoying! We finally get the rotating assembly back from machine shop this week 👍 Has been a long wait for balancing but we are keen to finally have it back and get stuck in. More content on the way!
Mate, I know talking coin is dangerous on the internet, but if someone drove in a stock FZ with high kms but running all g, what would you lads sting for a rebuild? So it was ready for a little boost at a later basically.
I feel like every time you guys do a build, you cure my curiosity as I have a fzj80 I was thinking about doing something with. So my next question is where would you put a turbo 1fz as apposed to a Barra or ls conversion. Completely different league of builds or do you think the value for money with a turbo 1 fz justifies leaving it in there. just looking for opinions. Good stuff fellas.
You obviously have to do some work to the 1fz like doing a coil pack conversion and adding in crank angle sensor instead of using a dizzy, apparently makes tuning a lot better
Leprechaun Laboratory only reason I would do an engine conversion in my 94 80 series is to go to a bit of a beefy built 100 series because they have coil packs and are cam timed instead of using a dizzy, butttt I have heard that the bottom end in the 80’s is a little stronger
Leprechaun Laboratory get some big boy toque out of the fz motors too, seen most guys that get around 300 to 350hp pretty much have 1000nm or just shy of, it’s quite impressive,
Motor is now together, will be going back into the rig this week. Content not far away! Just waiting till it nearly done to release the content so everyone doesnt have to wait weeks between episodes again 👍
@@BoostGumps this is not personal experience only information from 1fz turbo pages but the stock pistons seem handle boost fine but any sort detonation under boost they are glass
Adrian Mayfield yeh i have since had a chat with a few machinists that we often use and they have told me the stock piston to wall clearance specification for these engines is extremely tight. So could have just been that she leaned out for long enough to do this amount of damage yet not put a hole in the top of a piston. All very interesting i formation none the less!
@@BoostGumps I'm running 1FZE turbo with a non-forge piston. Good tune, low boost it ok. Forge is the way to go. Also for resources, there is a 1FZE Turbo Facebook forum.
The obvious,, how bent is the head. Those engines get hot and the head is bent. And has to be straightened. That gear drive is similar to the single OHC diesel. They drive the pump, p/s pump etc. Auto adjusting cam timing is probably why it broke. All the oilers is why those things always use oil. Poor old rings are working overtime.
The 1fz-fe is a very underrated motor!

The 1FZFE is an amazing motor. Great video!
I have the same car and been thinking of putting up a turbo. Great stuff you do. Please put up the rest of the build
Good timing I’ve been thinking about putting a turbo on my 105
Likewise!!
Feels good to be back, have missed so much god tier content
Got an 80 series 1fzfe myself and been thinking about doing a turbo setup for it, keen to see how you do it man!
Interesting engine, interesting build. Actually, it's funny how you get to work on all sorts of interesting cars. Thanks for sharing, by the way. :)
Very happy i found this video please upload more about the rest of the build
Liked & subbed 👍
cruiza Hawk absolutely will post the entire build as we move forward! Thankyou for the like and sub 👌

Something about 80 series 🤩
Where is the rest of the build series? Or am I blind?
@@carbonharmonics I’m just referring to the FJ80 series cruisers like the generation
You sound a lot like John Clarke mate. It’s a compliment! :D
Looks like it’s got hot to do that too the motor
Loving the fucking tow vehicle

ifluro knew one of the letters in the convention was for narrow angle!
Yeh just the colour of the raw iron from years of dirt sand and salt i beleive
Price tag on rebuild for these motors. I want to rebuild my 1997 Lx450 engine.
I have a manual turbo 1fz. 10psi hoots off road. I run a gt3540
Clintonio Calla thats awesome mate! Are the manuals still H150 gearbox? How is it holding up?

up the 80 series
Would like to see this up against a turbod tb48

Where is the rest of this build? I can only find episode 1?
Watch my latest upload, I explain it there
Reminds me of a mini Hino engine
I have one of them with a supercharger in my land cruiser
Paul Johns how do you like it?

Best thing about the 1fz is that it’s already in your car and it’s pretty much better than the Barra, basically the big brother to the 2jz
You obviously have to do some work to the 1fz like doing a coil pack conversion and adding in crank angle sensor instead of using a dizzy, apparently makes tuning a lot better
ITzRangaa i agree. The benefits of the FZ far outweigh what its worth to convert to another engine. They are so capable!

Can the stock engine get a turbo charger without internals ?
Yes, the can handle about 18-25psi until you will see problems. Headstuds are pretty much all you need
