I want to make a deck that partners Vrestin, Menoptra Leader with Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest. It wouldn't be legal and would be something I'd have to get some rule 0 approval for... but it'd be fun to build Abzan Insect Tribal around them.

As a horror player I completely agree, there are like 300 horrors in total and choosing the best of them is the hardest part of the deckbuilding process

Putting merfolk in C when angels are in B feels wrong imo. Merfolk got so much support recently with Ixalan and indirectly with some cards in the Mutant Menace Fallout deck.
Like you got Ripples of Potential which can phase out most of your creatures if someone uses a board wipe.
The list is very bias in my opinion
Dragons are just better dinosaurs (both flavor wise and card quality). They have all the same drawbacks as dinos but have way more support and a lot of good commanders. I would say they belong in S-Tier.
Yeah, not having dragons in S tier is weird. Dinos over dragons? Why am I subscribed lol
There are also load of singularly good, Board-warping dragons that are impactful beyond tribal synergies. Whereas there are fuck all Dinos like that. Like, new Etali and Zacama are it.

My argument for changelings being actually cool is that you can build it in so many different ways compared to slivers/dragons etc where you see the same 15 creatures/payoffs in every deck
Plus, exactly the opposite of "non creative", S+ tier
I guarantee my dragon deck not only plays differently but looks different from whatever you are describing.
I've won many games off of Mirror Entity, always seemed like a fun card to me...

@trehenry413 I use Ur-Dragon. It's based around the dungeon/initiative mechanic. Most of the cards aren't even lesser known staples in the format, lol.

Personally I think in a world full of reality destroying monsters and fauna that could destroy cities, being a humble human fighting back against the horror is pretty cool. Not to mention being a pretty strong type after all the support over the last couple years.
I’ll give Humans their due props. Champion of Lambholt is one of my all-time favorite cards for essentially reading: While Champion of Lambholt remains on the field, mock the weeping of would-be chump-blockers, and put a +1/+1 counter on Champion of Lambholt for every saltiness-induced slur hurled his way. ;)
His flavor-text of course reads, “Now where did I leave my Boots?”
Samurai are S tier for aesthetic, but Poop tier for mechanics.
While I do agree with putting Dragons in A-tier, putting Merfolk in C-Tier triggers me. Merfolk will stomp just about any other tribe.
As a fairy tribal lover I do know sometimes they don't appear synergistic but in wilds of eldraine they made a nice dimension out of them. The tricksy flash play on opponents turn is such a vibe. Lots of new flash fairy support too from the adventures. Cunning Conqueror is also playing extremely well at multiple power levels.
I've often heard faeries be described as the Dimir equivalent of merfolk, where they care more about draw-go interaction and control than snowballing value but they're both basically evasive and tricksy little blue guys at the end of the day. Another neat thing is that faeries and rogues have a lot of overlap and one can easily build a deck with support from both tribes.
Hydras are insane! Zaxara X spell tribal with all of the Hydras is very strong. Ozolith, Doubling Season, Clown Car!
I’m surprised that Elementals didn’t make the list! Definitely at least an A tier type imo, Omnath is cool
Top six are humans, zombies, dragons, goblin, slivers and merfolk. Runners up elves, vampires, eldrazi and dinosaur
Humans are S+ tier. Deepest tribe and most possible playstyles imo
Yeah, I think their rankings are based on just 'what they enjoy' more than actual power level. Humans at this point are actually stronger than Elves IMO, and half the time people forget all the options available in Human Tribals and how bonkers AF the potential commanders for it are.
I have a Kenrith human tribal that gets immediate groans from my regular pod when I pull it out... it's just filthy AF.
@@user-tp9bn8lp6t Alas, Elves got Voja now, and I feel like a pure elfball Voja deck is pretty nuts. Outside of that though I do agree Humans have a lot of standalone strong creatures with the type stapled on them. Most of which are stax, which is huge. It's very close between the two though in my opinion.
Bruh they don't know wtf they're talking about, Humans are dope ASF. their synergy & their mechanics. I play Humans, Elves & Spiders working on others atm but the fact that they put Humans so low just shows how much they don't know & I've been playing magic since 1992.
Vampires I think should be S-tier as well. Stupid amounts of support these days.
@@Ankhakaru It's more about the flavor. They just don't care for the flavor of humans, it's boring to them, it's simply their personal tastes and opinion. They said humans are powerful, they are obviously very powerful since it's the most printed creature type by a country mile, no one will argue Humans are weak. So there really is no need to get on a high horse and gate keep.
I'd love to see some tribes that aren't elves or goblins get some support. Beasts, Birds, Squirrels and Giants could all use some love.
Literall all of them have at least 1 decent commander
@@Shimatzu95 doesn't mean they dont deserve more support though. Wraiths have a good commander but there are only 12 Wraiths total in all of Magic, definitely could use more support too.

@@85inexact what do you want me to say? I'm not a fan of "choose a tribe" payoffs as they will aleays be more expensive. If anything we need more party groupings rather than seperateing species like with rats and mice.

Dragons are the top S-tier, amazingly fun to play. I love how they are in every color, and I have no issue losing to them.
The main problem is that too many of their commanders are oppressively strong so they dont realy fit into low-mid power games.

The best way to avoid infinite combos in zombie decks is just to have no free sac outlet.
As a player who likes faires , i think alot of people mistake faires versatility and utility for being unfocused cause that's the point their power lies in being hard to read only a good fairy deck pilot understand the sheer flexibility they present to adapt and deal with complex and tough boardstates

Ok fine I’ll take the bait. I adore hydras. Do you have 50 mana hanging around? Hydra broodmaster just spawned 20 20/20s. Ram through + a trampling hero’s bane has once landed me 12 and a half million damage. Optimal? Idk, it wins when it works. Fun? You better believe it!
I think Werewolves could be cool, if they made their transformations based around them taking damage or not. Human side needs to take damage and survive, while the werewolf side needs to take damage to stay warged out!
I think this would create a clear, aggressive play style.

Walls are quite literally the most epic creature type created.

I actually play a variant of Insect tribal- it's actually Bee tribal. sadly I had to allow wasps and hornets in the deck as well to fill out the commander deck. I'd say it's a B tier deck
Horrors may have very few commanders to choose from, but oh boy they can be annoyingly powerful.
Cant rly agree with dragons in A and dinos in S. Dinos are just dragons without wings.
Because prehistoric reptiles = dinosaurs in Magic, there are a couple flying dinosaurs.
Still waiting for the day when they will errata bird and put them in the dinosaur tribe though.
As a hardcore Sliver player, I have to say, I do wish we got Slivers that did a little more than just combat buffs and the few mana dorks. There's some very cool effects besides that (specifically non-combat related ones like Root Sliver, Necrotic Sliver, Harmonic Sliver, etc.), and I wish more of a focus was put onto those types of Slivers that give out non-combat related abilities (I'm including evasion and everything else that could fall under that umbrella as a combat related ability).
Spiders in B is higher than I expected so not mad. My first made deck is spider tribal cuz I love spiders and hate flyers 🫡

Angel is my favorite creature type but it hurts to admit that they aren't great in commander; goblins, humans, elves, dragons and recently dinosaurs just run over them.
I wish WOTC would stop the nonsense and start giving us better angel support and not just treat them like "those mana-heavy mono white folk".

Cats under Arahbo are actually really strong as a Voltron Hybrid with a lot of Lifegain, go wide and board control sub strategies.
Putting elves in S and moist elves in C is crazy to me.

Walls certainly aren’t better than than dragons, but there’s nothing quite like playing an arcades deck at a table where no one’s playing interaction. Playing what amounts to about 2 three-mana 8/8’s and 3 two-mana 4/4’s a turn and continuously having a hand full of cards to do it again is a high like no other.
I am so offended that you don't think walls are cool! I'm a d e v o t e d wall player and I think they are way cooler than dragons, vampires, and dinosaurs. Have you seen wall of fog? wall of deceit? Wall of wonder? Wall of wallabies? Walls are awesome, walls are my friends. You can hang a pretty picture on a wall, can't say the same about those other lame creature types can you?
Also walls just obliterate you out of no where with akromas will or triumph of the hordes. Every wall draws you a card with arcades out. And they're cheap to cast so the setup isn't hard

I agree with Sidar being a much more fair eminence. So much so that I posted that on Reddit and learned real quick that players absolutely hate eminence at ANY level and feel that it’s a severely broken effect that should not be used! I took so much flack for my post, it was nuts!!
As a Tribal Frogs player...this video is plain incorrect.
Fun video, really enjoyed it and hearing your takes on types. One suggestion: could you add text labels? Sometimes i have no idea what some of the pics represent, esp after a dozen have been added to the board.

Goblins are arguably the best tribe in magic. They are also really cool.
Humans in D tier is crazy to me they are so powerful! I think you guys might a little to biast cats are Low D maybe even poop.
S tier is Goblins and Elves
I'm always tempted to call this 'The eminence scale' since getting a good eminence commander for that type usually means they're gonna be A or S tier.
Knights didn't do so hot though, and Giants aren't even on here :p
@@NitpickingNerds While I wouldn't put Knights in the level of Dragons or Vampires, I think you're really under-valuing Sidar: Just because of Sidar eminence ability they're at the top of 'Humans with jobs' even above Wizards and most people who have been on the wrong side of a really well put together Sidar deck that isn't put down immediately would likely agree.
Besides I just think Eminence as an ability no matter how weak is overpowered: its an anthem that you don't pay for or have to do anything to get and it's extremely resistant to removal: it's almost like playing a companion (An equally busted mechanic) basically going 'Yep you guys go ahead and play with 100 cards, I'm playing with 101 cards and get that extra card to be one of the best and I don't even have to draw or tutor for it'
Just fundamentally unfair.
I have Sidar. I never play Cavalry Charge because playing knights sucks. The turns suck. The power is there, they are strong enough. But some of them make bats, some make soldiers, some make humans, they just aren't synergistic enough and the cards are disparate enough in interaction that you spend so much longer durdling every turn to line up your interactions.
Yo! Hail Hydras!! Throw a few untappers into a Lucea deck and all of a sudden you're tripling or quadrupling your hydra or x-spells. Throw Doppelgang into the mix and it gets mad!
I think we need more grouping of types mechanics like party! There’s one coming up in thunder junction but it involves assassins and such so it’s also gonna be heavy black I’m assuming 😢

This list hurts my soul. I can respect people's opinions, but that Merfolk placement gets me in the feels lol.
Zombies top of b is ridiculous. Elves and zombies are arguably the same in power, goblins are right there too. In many cases it's a toss up of who gets the combo pieces first.
I think Halflings are a cool tribe. I like how tied to food they are, and despite there not being very many Halflings the tribe is pretty strong and has a unique identity.
Changeling Tribal is a lot better if you're going with Changeling Amass Army Tribal, so I would rank Changelings a bit higher because of that.
some other creature types I think deserve a mention for one reason or another would be Bear, Scarecrow, Elemental, Ninja, Dwarf, Sphinx, Snake, Assassin, and squirrels
Lastly I want to mention Wraiths as an example of a creature type with basically 0 support but is carried by a good commander, in this case it's Lord of the Nazgûl. For context there are a total of 12 wraiths in all of Magic but despite that it's still decently popular.

Rat decks go back forever and a day in 60 card casual magic. Pestilence rats, Lab rats, Razertooth rats, crypt rats (the real pestilence rats). You really could come up with 20-30 cards worth of rats and bang out a 60 card deck. But there wasnt a commander till kamigawa.

I've played against a really nasty hydra deck - he had all the mana doubling and tripling enchantments and stuff to ramp them into play and then he started dropping 30 mana X spells - felt *really* good to counterspell lol but he did get pretty overwhelming and take the game
You obviously haven't played against an Umbris or Captian N deck because any kind of slightly tuned horror deck is fucking oppressive, highly synergistic, and just mean lol. It's gotta be at least an A tier in strength with the ability/option to move up when Finely tuned

Okay so I dont think theyre particularly good (in fact i think theyre quite bad), but since I have two decks built around em i have to say my favorite tribe is Dogs. Absolutely not deep enough, and there are only 2 feasible commanders to run, but c'mon, puppies!
Irish rats got more representation and magic outside of just kamigawa and one other set

I would say phyrexians should be higher because infect/poison. If played right they are a huge danger on the field

My only (and favorite) tribal deck is Monk tribal with The Archimandrite as my commander, and it’s not very good but it’s super fun.
I love the party mechanic! But sadly I don’t play black so there’s not a good deck I can make of it at the moment unless I just do good stuff of each creature type lol
Don't sleep on Arahbo, giving a 1-drop +3/+3 on turn 1-2 is pretty great.
Wow, I try not to be too critical of people’s taste, but you’ve both *clearly* not experienced the bared might of Selesnya/Bant Hydra Tribal.
Maybe I could grasp the PoV in an era where it was harder to generate piles of mana, but we have cards like Unbound Flourishing and all the Green rewards-power 4-or-greater enchantments to pile atop Green just having the mana to turn any Hydra into a game-ending threat.
I could see someone with a hate on for Green putting Hydras low B/top of C, but F?

In my 14 years of playing edh I've played slivers and zombies both fell off pretty quickly because I just don't find Kindred decks all that interesting they all just feel the same. Never seen a Kindred deck that was all that interesting. I'd love the comment section to change my mind on this tho
Kindred decks are a great way to avoid “goodstuff” decks filled with generic staples - you get to play interesting type specific synergies. For example in my Hydras deck you can run Nanogene Conversion and Wave Goodbye as board wipes instead of yet another Cyclonic Rift. Instead of Rhystic Study for draw I can play loads of huge X spell draws, and I can play the X spell ramp as well.
In my mono white angels deck, the win con is Angel of Destiny, or to get a book of exalted deeds token onto a lotus field via a nesting grounds. And it’s filled with only angels and a couple of clerics. Yes it would be strictly better to include Esper Sentinel, but he’s not an Angel, so it forces me to use cards you wouldn’t normally look at instead.
