  • A video showing the servicing of the gearbox as these earlier ones from the 1980's and 1990's did not have oil filled gearboxes like the newer ones, they used grease which needs to be periodically replaced.

I think watching your videos is convincing me to start buying old tools instead of new ones, love the breakdowns. I have an old milwaukee 3/8" hammer drill and old cummings 500 rpm d handle with drill press I was given and i think i need to tear them apart and take a look!

Just wanted say its nice to hear someone knowledgeable talk about screws. You know, no one EVER gets that stuff right on YT! Fasteners were my whole career from high school to retirement.

What’s your thoughts on the past ten years of the internet being obsessed with needing JIS screwdrivers even though JIS and ISO have been in parity for…decades?

Mr Maximus, Thanks for this well-paced and highly detailed view of the Makita 5077B saw. I was very surprised to learn the gearbox was lubricated with grease rather than oil in the earlier generations of Makita's Hypoid saws. To borrow a common expression - Grease is the word! 😸😸

I second the peelable film on the labels. I have an Old Super SawCat from the 1960s and the label look really dirty and tarnished. Little did i know, there was a film. Peeled it off, and it looks brand new now.

I have a new-in-the-box Sawcat from 1982 that sat in someone's basement for 40 years before I bought it. I have to see if there is a film on the label.

@@NKWoodworks 3047 Type 2. It was made in Brockville, Ontario in a plant that was 'free-traded' to oblivion decades ago.

The reason that you find JIS screws is because Makita wants to be the last manufacturer on earth using cruciform screws. Came across red loctite PH2 on a recip gearbox the other day. 😂. Ok, there’s an exception, sometimes they’ll use seven different hex sizes…with no loctite..next to a dozen phillips (well..ISO cruciform) screws with loctite. 😂
