I've heard people complaining of this. I didn't recall anything from when I was riding, so I went back and listened to some raw footage and couldn't hear anything other than normal trail noise.
The range extender concept is very cool. You can attach any standard external Bosch battery to the mounts, so if you know someone who already has one, you can borrow it for a day and don't need to buy one.
Nice review, going to test it aswell....on my list is the orbea, trek rail and the levo...I'll decide after i tested all three of them, but i have the feeling I'll end up with the orbea, such a nice bike.
I’ve ridden a Levo and they are excellent. The TREK Powerfly I once rode was OK, but in my opinion it’s not in the same class as the Orbea. I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts.
@@robikaluza4058 Hey Robi, sorry for the late reply. Yes i tested them all now, and i can tell you, you will do nothing wrong going with the orbea...for me it was definetly the best of them...super fast bike, eats up everything in the rough and still what i would call playful for an ebike. But better test them for yourself, everyone has other expectations to their new bike. Have a nice one.
I have the same list ! but I think with the Bosch upgrade it will be on a par, if not better, that the Levo. Thanks for a great review it was "real" and very helpful.
Great video mate! Despite the chunky look I quite like it - albeit still think the specz LEVO SL is the e-bike to have, but I might be wrong as haven't tried many e-bikes 🤷♂️
I know what you mean about the chunky look, but it is very well proportioned. I would love to get my hands on a Levo SL to try out. It looks like a really interesting concept, even if a shockingly expensive one 😲
Enjoying your reviews. How do you think the Orbea compares to the Monterra for occasional bike park but mainly general trail riding in the Surrey Hills. On my shortlist along with the Fusion jam2 6 8 nine.
Glad you’re digging the reviews. I think they could both handle the sort of riding you mention. However, the Orbea is probably a little more enduro oriented. If I was going to take the Moterra to a bike park, I would probably look at the Moterra 2, which is equipped with a Lyric fork, since the Gold fork on the Moterra 3 does start to complain a bit when you push it a little harder.
Thanks for a great review! I'm considering this bike, am 187 cm tall as well. You say the L is a bit cramped, have you tried the XL? From other reviews, many say the reach is shorter than other brands, and that sizing up is recommended, but it seems no one really have tested the XL so it's mostly guesswork. The loam wolf also guesses that the XL would loose the playfulness of the L, but no one of the testers were as tall as you or I. Also, while the dropper does not go down all the way into the seat tube, and there is a 170 dropper on the XL, I wonder if the saddle height would be a bit too tall. Math says the lowest saddle height becomes 483+160+30+170=843 mm (seat tube + crank + saddle post extending bit + dropper travel). Add then the thickness of the saddle itself, and it seems a close cut to being too high for my 89 cm inseam. Whats your thoughts on it? Hoping you've tried the XL or similar sized bikes :)
I actually went ahead and bought myself an XL, which arrived a couple of weeks ago and I am really pleased with the sizing. I ordered it with a 180mm dropper post which keeps the saddle nicely out of the way.
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland thanks for the reply. Sounds good that the XL fits, but it must mean that you have the saddle post shoved all the way to the bottom, or is my math wrong? (or do you have longer legs than me, inseam 89 cm?) I unfortunately don't have any chance to test one out before purchase and am a bit worried about how some reviewers point out that the post does not go all they way into the tube, it sticks up a few cm.
The post sticks out a bit on all my bikes, so I guess my inside leg must be a bit longer. I’m on holiday with my acoustic bike at the moment, so I can’t measure how far it sticks out.
I can add, for anyone else who's thinking of this model, that I went ahead and ordered the size large and I feel it is right for me. I have the seat post all the way down and that is about right, so an XL would likely be too large for me. So measure leg length before you buy.
Have you tries other ebikes ? Inworry about 65.5 hta i used to ride 64 hta bike agressive and fast, can you take it to bike parks ? I between orbea and comencal meta power, also looking to new trek rail, merida one sixty and kenevo maybe you have tested any of them ?
Some of the bikes you have mentioned are on my list to test this year, but I haven't managed to yet. I wouldn't worry too much about the head angle. Slacker head angles help provide extra stability at speed but the extra weight of the ebike means that they are inherently more stable anyway. As regards bike parks, I would confidently take this bike down any trail I would hit on my normal bike, but I would favour the agility of the analogue bike if I can get a uplift anyway.
I’ve never ridden a Rise, but whichever way you go there’s a compromise to be made. If the ups a seriously steep, this would probably be the best tool, but the Rise is probably a better descender because of the lower weight.
Question on sizing. I am usually a Large but when I see the seat post length for this bike it seems to be a medium. I am 6'1" tall and my Pivot Mach 429 large size is great. The Large Orbea seems to match the sizing except for the seat tube. What is your opinion on sizing? I am looking at getting a large.
I’m 6’2” and was on a large for years, but made the move to XL with my acoustic bike 2 years ago and when I tested the large Orbea it felt too short for me. In the end I bought an XL and am really happy with the choice.
Good question. I think it depends a lot on your physique and posture on the bike. I just spent a weekend slogging my acoustic enduro bike up over 3000 meters of climbing and I feel pretty sure it would have been a lot less strenuous and more comfortable on the Wild FS. If you suffer from lower back pain when climbing, raising the cockpit might help. Maybe I should speak to the shop and see if I can get the bike on loan again and take it for a monster ride.
Thanks for the support. Glad you liked the review. The Render represents great value for money. Can you get a test ride somewhere? I would suggest speaking to a dealer about availability of the Orbea. I hear that there is a general lack of availability of many brands at moment. Spoke to someone I know who works in quite a big bike shop the other day and he said they were completely sold out of ebikes!
any rattle from the motor on rocky sections or quick descents?
I've heard people complaining of this. I didn't recall anything from when I was riding, so I went back and listened to some raw footage and couldn't hear anything other than normal trail noise.
Not on mine.

The Orbea is MUCH BETTER TRUST ME !
Good review, I have the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay wish it had something similar to emtb mode. Does look nearly as nice as mine 🤣
I liked the bike so much, I did a Victor Kiam and bought one!!
good video. thanks for the information
You’re welcome, glad you found it useful.
good review . was hoping to buy one plus a range extender. computer says no
Thanks. That pesky computer!. The range extender is quite impressive, it makes monstrous tours a reality.
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland good i've done 3 100mile off road jaunts on a 2015 specialized enduro, would like some life in my legs at the end

It was all shot on my home trails about half an hour from Zurich.

Would you prefer the Orbea Rise M-LTD over this? Why or why not?
I’ve never ridden a Rise, but whichever way you go there’s a compromise to be made. If the ups a seriously steep, this would probably be the best tool, but the Rise is probably a better descender because of the lower weight.
