Wind and solar are not cheaper than oil as they require huge amounts of subsidies
Wind has a low energy density and wind power is centuries out of date. Wind farms only exist due to massive taxpayer funded subsidies. They make no economic sense.
Solar panels are a useful supplement in sunny areas between the 35th parallels.
Even in favourable areas there is a major mismatch between peak supply and peak demand.
They make no economic sense in cloudy upper latitude areas such as the UK.

The carbon dioxide emissions are actually beneficial. Benefits include increased agricultural yields (main effect) reduced winter heating costs and fewer deaths from hypothermia. This is especially so in cold areas such as the UK.
Apparently they are funded by a company which receives taxpayers money to build costly and unnecessary wind turbines.
Its only science if it supports their nacicsim.

she says you can't argue with figures, I work for a global company that as far as the shareholders and all the major bosses are concerned we are doing a fantastic job and reaching all targets etc, however the reality is that the local site that i work at is going down the tubes fast but they are still investing millions in it because our local senior managers are juggling figures, so in essence she is totally wrong.

I think both Peter and James missed a trick here. It's perfectly clear that this Jane Tool has absolutely no respect for democratic processes, to the point where it wouldn't be unfair to claim that her mindset is essentially a totalitarian one, and she should have been called out on that, directly. At the very least it would have been interesting to hear her response, though judging by her ignoring questions she didn't want to answer, maybe she would just have fallen back on some stock trope. At any rate, it's always good when the crazy comes shining through as a reminder that these people shouldn't be trusted any which way.

Fact : David King is a chemist, not a climatologist. The constantly used phrase that landbased wind is 9 times cheaper than fossil fuels fall on its own fallacy as fossil fuels are a range of fuels with different cost structures and the fact that that number originates from a Scottish bid round for assets which have not yet been built.
No doubt that landbased wind is among the cheapest energy sources we have but it is no way near being 9 times cheaper than LNG.
For Christ´s sake why can we have a grown up debate around what we need to do, which energy resources to use and how to implement the strategies in the cheapest and most efficient manner.
