I'm a teacher in the UK. A lot of this stuff - I'd say 95% is simply coming from the internet. Young people, without real world experience and critical thinking skills are accessing this nonsense and it's turning them loopy. Most teachers in the UK are slow-witted, leftist types, essentially failures in life - so they encourage the resentment - they certainly don't challenge it. The result is an anxious, uninformed youth.

When I started in the late 80s the guys who taught me had 25 to 30 years experience. They made 25 to 30 dollars and hour. In 1987 that wasn't too bad. It was basically middle class. Now that I have 30 plus years under my belt myself and many others struggle to find a job that will pay 25 dollars an hour. Also most of these jobs no longer offer health benefits etc... They're sub contract mostly so the owners are off the hook for those added expenses. Everything around me costs twice, or more what it did in the 80s but my wage has been stagnant for at least 30 something years. The company owners used to live in nicer houses than us workers and drive nicer trucks. Now they live next door to people like Patrick. I'm certainly not on the left of politics at all but I can't deny what's slapping me in the face every day. My strength is in working. I'm the first one at the job and the last one to leave. Many days someone has to tell me, hey, it's lunch time. Time to eat. I don't watch the clock . Unfortunately now with the Putin gas hikes,(sarcasm) I'm now spending about a days pay( take home) per week on gas to get myself and tools to work. Ha, in the USA many people now want me to pay for school for kids like this. 👍 Good times.

The Irony is how much oil was used to produce their clothing, tech and everything else that makes their world comfortable and easy enough to enable them to do these things instead of working a farm.

She definitely was the opposite of what PBD summed up at the end about the girls behaviour. Especially that she missed completely that the girls were genuine in their concern. I'm 63. When I was in grade 4 or so, we had an assembly at school with a slide show, warning us about "pollution." It scared the hell out of us. I really thought the world was going to end because of it.
I`m 64. I remember lots of scares such as the coming of an ice age, acid rain, population explosion leading to mass starvation, most major cities like London, New York , Amsterdam, would all be underwater by 2000, ozone, pollution. It`s always something.

First I remembered was the "ozone layer is being destroyed" and acid rain, then it was "global warming" (my favorite newspaper headline of all time is "Global warming convention canceled due to snow storm"), then it was "climate change." Before ozone (i.e. what I've heard/understand since I am too young to remember) was global cooling and the suggestion to purposefully melt the ice caps.

I didn't agree with what the girls did. But I thought that response was quite petty given how the girls were being respectful and calm in their response. For a while, I wondered who was the child in that snippet.

Social media is (largely) to blame for these girls' ignorance. When I grew up in the '70s it wasn't long after the "tree-huggers" first started at it with all the climate change hooey. Back then, the boogie-man was "acid rain". They even tried indoctrinating us through some of our Saturday morning cartoons - most notably Schoolhouse Rock in which entire episodes were devoted to acid rain, global cooling, oil refining, and paper recycling. But even with all of that, our generation did not produce ideologs like these two extremists. And that's because there was no social media to push narratives 24/7. As a kid, you saw brief glimpses of this sort of stuff once or twice a month (at best), and you just went and lived your life. But now, all a kid needs to do is click on one 20second clip referencing any sort of climate issue, and BAM! The Al-Gore-Rhythm has them in it's clutches. Pretty soon, videos predicting global destruction via climate catastrophe are all their underdeveloped pre-frontal cortexes want to feast upon. The result...Naively misguided, passionate activists who are sincere, but sincerely wrong.

I'm a teacher in the UK. A lot of this stuff - I'd say 95% is simply coming from the internet. Young people, without real world experience and critical thinking skills are accessing this nonsense and it's turning them loopy.
Most teachers in the UK are slow-witted, leftist types, essentially failures in life - so they encourage the resentment - they certainly don't challenge it.
The result is an anxious, uninformed youth.

When I started in the late 80s the guys who taught me had 25 to 30 years experience. They made 25 to 30 dollars and hour. In 1987 that wasn't too bad. It was basically middle class.
Now that I have 30 plus years under my belt myself and many others struggle to find a job that will pay 25 dollars an hour. Also most of these jobs no longer offer health benefits etc... They're sub contract mostly so the owners are off the hook for those added expenses. Everything around me costs twice, or more what it did in the 80s but my wage has been stagnant for at least 30 something years.
The company owners used to live in nicer houses than us workers and drive nicer trucks. Now they live next door to people like Patrick.
I'm certainly not on the left of politics at all but I can't deny what's slapping me in the face every day. My strength is in working. I'm the first one at the job and the last one to leave. Many days someone has to tell me, hey, it's lunch time. Time to eat. I don't watch the clock .

I'm now spending about a days pay( take home) per week on gas to get myself and tools to work.

They lack the perspective that comes from experience. As soon as that girl said she had never paid a bill in her life, I didn't care about anything she had to say. Because I know, despite what she says, she has no idea what it's like to live with the pressure of real responsibility, to know that your family's health and well-being depends on your ability to provide. These kids think that we don't care about the environment and climate as well?! I have two young kids. We care! But unlike these woke, self-absorbed, entitled kids, most of us have no choice but to worry about the here and now, and making sure there's food on the table for our families. If they can't figure out a way to go about this climate change stuff in a way that lifts the poorest in society along with it, it's not going to resonate with the people at the bottom, they won't go along with it, and this thing will fail.
It really isn't their fault. They've been manipulated by adult politicians, teachers, and activists since they were 6 years old. If you tell a 6 year the climate is going to kill them and repeat it for 13 years this is what you get. Thanks liberals

It is very rare for a person during a political argument on the news to have that much time to voice their beliefs, on the left or the right. As far as the subsidies, I don't take it at face value. Due they offset the regulations as far as the cost at the pump or do they just go in the pocket of the CEO? Is it really true? So, renewables are supposedly cheaper but there is the argument they are a less dense energy source so scaling to the demand needed, are we still getting better value? Sorry, but that statement just opened so many questions to me and I was disappointed no one wanted to provide anymore detail. As far as I'm concerned, the entire discussion was a nuance/detail level of 5 out of 100. This interview could have easily been 3 hours long to start out of a series where different guests could have been brought on to address each individual point. With them in the news that is a lost opportunity to enlighten the young.

I didn't agree with what the girls did. But I thought that response was quite petty given how the girls were being respectful and calm in their response. For a while, I wondered who was the child in that snippet.
The child was decidedly the guy with the purple vest. They took condescending off hand remarks like champs while this guy was indistinguishable from a middle school bully. I find it embarrassing that other full grown adults actually applaud that cringe.

Social media is (largely) to blame for these girls' ignorance. When I grew up in the '70s it wasn't long after the "tree-huggers" first started at it with all the climate change hooey. Back then, the boogie-man was "acid rain". They even tried indoctrinating us through some of our Saturday morning cartoons - most notably Schoolhouse Rock in which entire episodes were devoted to acid rain, global cooling, oil refining, and paper recycling. But even with all of that, our generation did not produce ideologs like these two extremists. And that's because there was no social media to push narratives 24/7. As a kid, you saw brief glimpses of this sort of stuff once or twice a month (at best), and you just went and lived your life.
But now, all a kid needs to do is click on one 20second clip referencing any sort of climate issue, and BAM! The Al-Gore-Rhythm has them in it's clutches. Pretty soon, videos predicting global destruction via climate catastrophe are all their underdeveloped pre-frontal cortexes want to feast upon. The result...Naively misguided, passionate activists who are sincere, but sincerely wrong.
