  • The Sony RX10 iv is a powerful camera. You don't want to re-configure for each new shooting situation. Fortunately, you don't have to. You can save up to seven configurations and then use or modify them as necessary. I show how to do so in this video. After spending time creating the configurations, you don't want to lose them so I also show how to make backup copies on your computer.

    Very helpful, I just bought the camera last week. I had the original RX10 when it first came out, and after expelling my GAS, I realized the RX10IV was the right camera for me. Thank you for making this video, it’s still relevant.

    Very clear explanations, very clear instructions and visualisations! Thank you for making these videos! As a "rusty amateur" who just bought this excellent camera, I'm a bit daunted by the possibilities - your videos are very helpful. All the best, Rob

    I am still soooo befuddled by the Sony menus on this camera that I just got. This video was helpful. Would it be possible for you to show more customization settings with explanations on how you go about them, please?! I did watch your "Demystifying" vid but I'm still in the dark. Maybe, it's just digital anxiety.

      I will give some thought to creating a more detailed video on the menus. I know they can be confusing, but after a little practice, they don't seem quite so intimidating.

    Very helpful and instructive tutorial; thank you! Am wondering what is the best way to utilize "My Menu" (star) folder.

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  3 года назад

      To make the My Menu useful will depend on the settings you are most likely to change. As you use the camera, make a note of the settings that you change frequently and add those to the menu for quicker access. I have most of the settings I change frequently assigned to the function menu (Fn button) or the programmable buttons C1-C3.

    Very nice and well explained. I know now how to save the M1/M4 configurations on my PC. I did not find it in the Sony Help Guide. Do you know where this is detailed in the Sony documentation ? Thanks for your help.

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  4 года назад +1

      I don't think there is any documentation for saving the M1/M4 configurations in the Sony guide. I guess Sony thought that saving four configurations would be enough and saw no reason to create a backup. I always try to find a way to create a backup of anything that might take a while to re-create or (more likely) I might forget how I did it in the first place.
      Thanks for viewing and for questions and comments.

    hello, I have the screen and the zoom of my sony Rx10m4 blocked, there is a reset button? or to unlock it ?? thank you

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  5 лет назад

      Probably the best way is to use Setting Reset. If the monitor is off, you will have to look through the viewfinder to select menus. Press the Menu button. Go to the Setup menu (second from the right) press the bottom of the Control Wheel to get into the selection area. Press the right of the Control Wheel until you get to Setup6. Select Setting Reset and press Center Button. Select Camera Settings Reset and press the Center Button. This will reset all settings to factory default. Any images you have recorded will still be available.
      Hope this helps. Thank you for questions and thank you for viewing.

    Is there a custom setting for AF Area Mode, that is being able to press and hold a custom button, while looking through the viewfinder, to change from AF continuous and single point AF -to- AF continuous (no change) And Group or multi point AF.
    When letting go of the custom button, returning to the previous base setting of AF continuous and single point AF.
    Purpose: use best AF method but change quickly to AF C and Group to get flying birds.

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  5 лет назад

      There isn't a way to do exactly what you want. However, the AF-A setting will be close. When subjects are not moving, AF-S will be used. When subjects are moving, AF-C will be used. While it may not be perfect, you won't have to control another button while framing and shooting.
      Thank you for viewing and thank you for comments and questions.

    • @MDMiller60
      @MDMiller60 5 лет назад

      Yes, but the most important part of the customization was to switch to group or multi-point focusing.
      Back Button focusing in AF-C takes me from from non-moving to moving subjects, just by holding the BB in or letting go.

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  5 лет назад

      Back Button Focus can be done. You can disable focus with shutter press and assign the focus function to another button. I used the center button on the control wheel. Focusing only happens while the selected button is pressed. So, if AF-C is selected, it only focuses while the button is pressed. Releasing the button locks focus. It works similarly if AF-S is selected.

      MontanaMonk Yes. Thanks. I saw it in the DPreview video review. It's (back button) located below the normal spot. There's another control above it.

    I am considering buying this camera for photographing butterflies. I have a Panasonic FZ1000M2 right now and I am very frustrated with it. When it wants to focus on the butterfly I can get some decent shots but unfortunately it chooses not to focus most of the time. Most butterflies don't sit still for long so your camera has to be able to focus right away. The Panasonic does not do that. It either chooses not to focus of focuses on the background instead. If there is essentially no background (a butterfly about the size of a dime sitting on a blade of grass) it will not focus at all. As you can probably tell I am very frustrated. I'm wondering if the Sony RX10 IV is the answer. Would you please give me your opinion?

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  2 года назад

      The Sony RX10iv would certainly focus quickly for macro work and could easily use center focus to focus on the butterfly rather than the background. The working distance for a good closeup of a butterfly of the size you suggest would only be 2"-3", which is pretty close and might disturb the butterfly. Of course, this is true even with many dedicated macro lenses. At about 6", you can still crop and get a very good image. With good light, focus is almost instantaneous. I also tested with an additional closeup lens and focus was equally fast, but vignetting with the lens I used was more than would make a useful combination.
      While I don't have access to the Panasonic, I would recommend using some of the special feataures: Be sure you are in macro mode, try the Post Focusing and Focus Stacking capabilities. Also, when shooting macro photos, any camera motion will cause the image to blur, and may look out of focus. If you are using the camera hand-held, increase the ISO so you can get increased shutter speed. Try using a monopod for stability. While a monopod is extra equipment, with a little practice it is easy to get positioned and will stabilize your photos. Even a light weight tripod with only one leg extended can be used as a monopod.
      In the end, if these efforts don't produce what you're looking for, the Sony RX10iv is a great camera and it does focus fast.

    is there a way to do time lapse with the RX10 M4 ?

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  6 лет назад +1

      You must use an external controller. There is no built-in time-lapse. See my video "Shooting Time-lapse with the Sony RX10 iv" at: ruclips.net/video/4K86R1FItzw/видео.html

    Do you know of anyone who shares their favorite settings for different situations? I need a starting point when there are so many options.

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  3 года назад

      Many photographers are willing to share settings for specific types subjects, but the variety of subjects would be huge. Sony has many tutorials. You might look at some at: support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/support/ilc/learn/en/knowledge/index.html
      These are a good starting point. Also if you have specific types of subjects in mind, just search on the internet and you will likely find many published articles and videos addressing exactly what you want. For example, I searched for photographing water and came up with articles covering subjects from droplets to waterfalls. These make for fun reading or viewing. Don't worry if an article uses a different camera. Most adjustable cameras share a lot of the same features. If you have specific questions, feel free to post here and I'll be happy to try to answer the questions.

    I don't know why but mine does not save the memory settings. I tried to save a couple to 1 and 2 and they did not save.

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  4 года назад

      The result of saving to 1, 2 or 3 may not be obvious unless you look at specific settings which were different when you saved. Try saving to M1 through M4. This saves to the SD card. After saving M1 and M2, look at the SD card with your computer and you will see a folder structure PRIVATE\SONY\SETTING\RX10M4N, which contains the settings files like CAMPRO##.DAT, where ## will be 01 through 04. When you verify that the camera saved settings to the SD card, then save new settings to 1 and 2. Then when you switch to MR to recall, don't push the Enter button right away. Press up and down to scroll through the settings and verify the things you set different are saved.
      Hope this helps. Thank you for questions and comments and thank you for viewing.

    It appeared that the mode dial (that contains Aperture, Manual, etc.) pointer (that should show up pointing to the A for Aperture) does not point directly at the "A". It's off kilter, unless it's only the lack of lighting on the camera body.

      At the angle I had the recording camera, the index mark doesn't appear to line up with the selection. Sometimes it is difficult to position all equipment for the best result. Thank you for pointing this out. I'll try to improve positioning future videos.

    How know shuttercount of sony RX10 IV

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  5 лет назад

      I am not sure I understand the question properly. The RX10iv has two shutters, mechanical and electronic. You can choose which type to use for many situations or you can have the camera select the type.
      If your question is about the range of shutter speeds, the range is Bulb and 30 seconds to 1/32,000 second, depending on shutter type chosen.
      I hope this answers your question. If not, please try to ask again with more detail. Thank you for questions and thank you for viewing.

      I mean the camera counter Sony RX 10 IV

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  5 лет назад

      I still may be unclear. If you mean the count of exposures made, or frame count, you must press the Playback button and then the top of the control wheel marked "Disp" until the monitor shows more information than just the image. The current frame and number of frames are shown in the lower right corner. If you need to know about how many frames can still be recorded on the card; in shooting mode, press "Disp" until you see an image of the card (a bad image) and a number in the upper left corner of the monitor. The number is approximately the number of shots you can still record on the card.
      I hope I am getting closer to the answer you are seeking. If not, keep trying. I'm pretty patient.
