I always loved DCI in my youth. Being a trombonist is bittersweet. I love seeing it happen now in DCI, but I felt really left out back then. It would have been awesome to have had a chance to participate.
Non-standard brass instruments were legalized starting in 2014. The first clip is SCV's opening hit in 2014, and if memory serves someone used a concert euph and a concert horn for a ballad solo that year too.
Ive seen some arguments that people dont like new things to dci. The tacky uniforms, the electronics, and the new instruments that the org has greenlit for groups to use like trombones. But something that those people need to understand is this actuvity needs to continue to evolve. All of those things that were mentioned are all aspects that can be added to more venues for creativity. Creativity in this activity is and always will be one of the driving forces for its greatness. Also lets fucking go trombones, were some badass mfers
I know it’s 2 months late, but in case anyone sees this later, I think the part is actually taken from the opening of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade: ruclips.net/video/SQNymNaTr-Y/видео.html (although it does sound an awful lot like Mahler 7)
As times progress, so do arts. Painting has evolved throughout the years going impressionist to realism and modern and whatnot. Music changed from the baroque era to classical, to romantic, and to modern. Dci has been around for a while. You can't keep doing the same thing and expect people to like it. New techniques and styles get added
I have returned.
glad to have you back!!
yay!

I’m surprised Madison Scouts had trombones all the way back in 2014. I thought trombones weren’t even allowed until 2016 or 2017

Don’t forget Mandarins too
Thank you for combining my two favorite things into one video
With the 2023 DCI season there are now so many more trombone moments. Just about every corps used one this year. Maybe an updated video would be cool!

The way in which DCI is just becoming full blown WGI is so depressing.
