Hi Matt. As a request it would be a delight if you was to explain more of the history of the albums your playing the song from. I think most Rancid fans you find this fascinating. Snippets from behind the scenes as it were. Example Life Won’t Wait, you guys produced the albums yourselves, what was that like, why the change up that became the styles to that particular album etc. thank you 🙏
Love how you leave your mistakes in and your "let's see if we can pull this off". Reminding me that even the greats aren't perfect helps me when I'm getting frustrated with learning.
It always amazes me how people are able to remember so many songs, so it's reassuring to see that even Matt Freeman sometimes forgets how some songs go. Appreciate you leaving your mistakes in. As someone who is trying to learn the guitar (25 years after picking up a guitar I still see myself as a beginner) it would be amazing if Lars or Tim would create a Guitar Bunker of their own.Thatd be epic!
Brilliant Matt i am loving you breaking down the different bass parts at the start would love to see Who Would've Thought, Leicester Square, Cocktails, Fall Back Down or anything really
That look away when you're trying to remember a tune... love it!! And not a million miles away from Bruce Foxton and A Town Called Malice bass line, great vid as always..
Oh shit, hearing you shout out Bremerton in this video just made me so happy. I'm so stoked to get to see my biggest bass idol play on my hometown stage on Saturday. Keep on rocking Matt.
Matt! please play Junkies Running dry! My favorite Op Ivy bass line! You have always been the GOAT of punk bass players in my mind. Been a fan since I was 11 and I'm 40 now!
Dear Mr. Freeman 26 year fan hear saying that every time I hear this song high, drunk, or stone cold sober I get chills. The only good thing to ever come from Covid was Matt’s Bass Bunker. So from a life long fan I want you to know that I really appreciate you. How about some White Knuckle Ride for some true og Rancid fans 🎉
Not gonna lie, this channel has been the best Thing to happen to RUclips in a long time. I'm a bass player myself (as most of the viewers probably are :D) and I get a lot of worthwhile tips from the way you play, this is so awesome. The way you're doing this right now is perfect I think. Talk a little bit about what's happening in the song and why you do this and that, and then play along to it. This is the absolute pinnacle of everything I ever wanted from a bass-channel! So much love and respect for you doing this. Seriously! P.s. I'd love to see you do - antennas - GGF Or - telegraph avenue Cheers from Germany! ❤
I said it on last week’s video and I’ll say it again… YES! Please keep up with doing the videos like this where you break it all down. It’s so nice to be able to see what I’ve been doing right and wrong over the last 15+ years and it’s a lot easier to see when you’re doing it part-by-part and explain why you do what you do.
Hi Matt, New Orleans is one of my top 10 songs-thanks for that! It would be great if you could make videos discussing the songs and lyrics, like what inspires the music and the writing process. There are a lot of places and people mentioned in the songs, and it would be amazing to learn more about them. I’d really enjoy that. Thanks again! 🤗
Mr. Freeman thank you so much. For continually talking to us fans in such a great way, through music! We all appreciate it immensely!! Rancid (OP IV) and Social Distortion was on heavy rotation from 8th grade until I graduated Navy bootcamp. Forgive me but have you done Badtown? Thank you sir, from a US Navy Veteran.
Hi Matt, It was super fun watching you play to the records. However, now I feel like its even better with the breakdown at the start of the videos. Two of the reasons I wanted to pick up bass all those years ago was Donald "Duck" Dunn and you. I tend to pick up new tricks to embellish my own playing after watching your videos. Thanks for sharing. Byron
Nice to see these videos Matt! Also great to see how your fingers move around and how to play these songs! But if I can make one request, could you do "Radio"? I'm having quite a hard time playing along to the song!
Great stuff, always loved the runs in the verse on this track! May i request anything off the NOFX split sometime. Love that album, my 2 favorite bands covering eachother, still seems unreal.
Always loved this track! I would love some stuff off of troublemaker and ..honor. Some absolutely underrated, great tracks on those. “Summon the demon” by charger would also be rad
This is so great like always. Here's a weird request, but it's of a cover you guys did way back when. Is it possible that you could do a play-along with "Can't Forgive"? Not only is it one of the best covers I've heard, but it guided me toward a great band Embrace, and bought the record because of it.
Not a bass player but I love this channel. How about a video about the Nova? I have most of the records you have played on, but I love cars too. I think its your nova/chevy 2 that has been in the rancid videos
Hey Matt, I would love a video where you talk about some of the gear you were using to record these records or just general memories of the sessions. Love peeking back behind the curtain. I read in BP magazine you used a Gk 2000rb and Acoustic 320 going at the same time for some of the Life Won't Wait session, curious if that was true because that sounds insane. Also read some forum posts by one of your engineers on that record that you used a Demeter DI + old tube amps + Marshall amp for distortion on LWW and 2000. Ampeg SVT 2 pro on AOCTW I assume? Not sure about 93 and Let's Go. The reason I know is I think your tones on the early records sound fucking awesome and I've scoured for info, haha. Some of my favorite bass tones! AOCTW is the reason I play a Jazz Bass and I fell in love with that tone. Thanks for doing these videos and reading some of the comments.
Amazing as always! Thanks for doing this as it's great insight. And cheers to your son playing drums! Side note, were you at Rise Against at UC Theater this week? I swear I saw you out in the hallway.
'New Orleans' is definitely one of the highlights that stood out like 'St.Mary' 'Backslide' and...showing itself trending towards the Tim Timebomb arrangements. Except it sounds something Green Day would've segued into a la 'Nimrod-era, except this reference is only because I think the aforementioned band gave them a motivation after the release of 'American Idiot', which would've been *everywhere during the recording of Let The Dominoes Fall--including Rancid's spell at Skywalker Ranch. Most punk rock contemporaries looked instantly dated--and many cases, finished off bands like Blink-182, Good Charlotte etc. for the rest of the decade. People forget that. Rancid did* make a massive change and entered their MKIII line-up with Branden Steineckert...which I think reinvigorated the stylistic approach (fresh) it needed. Gone were the grainy Jesse Fischer / Hellcat familia motifs (well, the album artwork promised gritty punk) and 'New Orleans' promised a more classic approach. It's also a timely nod to Hurricane Katrina and what a gifted songwriter Tim Armstrong is when focused... And Matt Freeman playing on it is what makes it timeless. Lars leads the vocals but the acoustic version has Lint singing it in plaintive fashion.
We were 45 seconds in before we started the actual video. This is for Op Ivy/Rancid fans, we want songs that last 45 seconds. I, too, would appreciate a shorter intro.

Thank God and Matt for this.
Axiom and White Knuckle Ride
I would love to see you play “1998” , “Motorcycle Ride”, and “New Regulations” by Downfall
This is in my top 10 Rancid songs.
You need listening more stuff of them
Same here
that's wild, but ok haha
What you are talking pal ? He is them the one and only Matt Freeman 🎸☠️@cacadordorio
same here!
Yes! I always thought this bass line had a Donald Duck Dunn/Blues Brothers vibe. Freeman and Dunn, two of the greats.
God bless you and Rancid! U r truly my inspiration!! Plz don't stop these video's!!
love the vids that have the mini tutorials at the beginning 👌🏼
One of my Rancid favs, and I think one of Lars' best vocals performance -sublime. Next: Memphis
The content on the channel, keeps getting better and better… thank you very much for taking the time to put the videos together!!
Love that you mention guys who influenced you on certain riffs.

The king of punk rock bass doing it the best since the 80's
Matt! please play Junkies Running dry! My favorite Op Ivy bass line! You have always been the GOAT of punk bass players in my mind. Been a fan since I was 11 and I'm 40 now!
YES! This is the one I wanted to see! One of my favorite Rancid tracks.
One of my favorite songs off that album.
Let The Dominoes Fall is my favorite album! My dad had it on loop all the time when I was growing up and it was one of the first CDs I owned
Honestly one of the funnest songs to play to 🔥
This one was really fun! The ending riff was a tasty treat that I was not expecting. TY!

Really love this new style of the play alongs.
I said it on last week’s video and I’ll say it again…

Thanks, Matt. I’d love to see a version of Brixton, it has a great bassline (inspired by Horace Panter maybe?).
Awesome! Could we get New Dress please?
Id like to see "The Bottle" and "7 Years Down!" Love your videos!
This song has such a cool groove to it. Definitely gonna have to learn this one myself!
Nice to see these videos Matt! Also great to see how your fingers move around and how to play these songs! But if I can make one request, could you do "Radio"? I'm having quite a hard time playing along to the song!
I’ve always been getting this Clash/Sandinista vibe from this track. Love it.
Love this! Matt can you do Warsaw sometime??
Great stuff, always loved the runs in the verse on this track! May i request anything off the NOFX split sometime. Love that album, my 2 favorite bands covering eachother, still seems unreal.
Great!
Never apologize for anyone practicing. It just makes us know we need to practice more!!
Great video thanks for all the info on the song.
Love it!

I love the way you break this one down. Any chance you could redo "Detroit" and break it down in the same way? Thank you so much for these videos!
"Welcome to Matt’s bass bunker, I'm Matt Freeman" is funny every time..
I want to see Charger come to Piitsburgh. Or maybe just Crane Fist.

Matt I need those glasses man!
2:11 I'm just an amateur theory geek, but that sounds like the major pentatonic scale to me.
Hi Matt, can you please do a video of Rudy Rudy from Shaken 69!!
❤😻🤘
Skull City or L.A. River would be cool to see from this album
Amazing as always! Thanks for doing this as it's great insight. And cheers to your son playing drums! Side note, were you at Rise Against at UC Theater this week? I swear I saw you out in the hallway.
White Knuckle Ride plz!!

Do some of the acoustic stuff from that album
You’re the fuckin man!
You know... After your show in Bremerton, you will literally be going back to Olympia (and then through it)... You could stop by and play :)
"Matty came from far away / From New Orleans into the East Bay"
Hard to believe that was 15 years ago.
How about something from Devils Brigade.
lmao duck dunn hell yeah
Bass Bunker at your son's drum show!
Matt, the fade out in your into takes too long for kids today. Chop off about 8 to 10 seconds at the end 😉👍🏻
We were 45 seconds in before we started the actual video. This is for Op Ivy/Rancid fans, we want songs that last 45 seconds. I, too, would appreciate a shorter intro.
