- Why did the first officer of Egypt Air flight 990 allow his plane to plunge and crash into the Atlantic, on October 31, 1999? Ominously, the cockpit voice recorder captures his final words-which he repeats several times.

The fact that the other first officer was flying home for his wedding just breaks my heart even more. He, the captain and all those passengers didn't deserve such a horrible fate
How do you know?
@@greenesyt563 just from news coverage from when the crash happened
There's plenty of heartbreak beyond that. We lost two friends on Egypt Air 990 for the simple reason they wanted to see Egypt. The financial cost for their survivors was horrific and their deaths are still mourned in Durango, Colorado, where they had lived.
That first officer crashed the plane but the Egyptian authorities in a way didn't want to believe it because he was a former high ranking airforce pilot may the victims rest in peace

True. He was actually a sex offender who knew he was about to lose his job as a pilot flying internationally..A sicko indeed..🤨🤮

I actually found out most of Egypt's government at the time, including the state leaders, heads of authority and even the president, all earned wings, and because of that, the country's aviation authority was given the highest respect imaginable. There's your source of denial, people. The Egyptian government were too proud of their pilot associations, and it could also explain their stubbornness with the crash of Flash 604 which was pilot error!
This is an extremely obvious case of pilot suicide.

This is what's terrifying about flying if a captain or first officer decide to end it all your going with them this flight also germanwings Silk Air pitching a plane nose down at high speed I cannot imagine anything more terrifying germanwings didn't even do that the first officer waited till the captain went to the toilet secured the cockpit door and set a flight level of about a thousand feet and coasted into a hillside taking all on board with him terrifying it doesn't matter how many pilots are on board when this guy on Egypt Air made his mind up everyone's fate was sealed
I've always wanted to know about this one. Its weird that its never been explained and pretty much forgotten.
It’s been explained. Egypt just won’t accept the explanation. They say Muslims cannot commit suicide… even though the lead 9/11 hijacker was Egyptian.
It has been explained. First officer deliberately crashed the plane.
It's well known that the pilot crashed the plane on purpose because he was being investigated for sexual harassment and had been demoted in the airline, on top of that the guy who demoted him was a passenger on the plane. Because of his high stature and the fact he was once in the Egyptian military the Egyptian investigators refused to admit the obvious out of fear of embarrassing Egypt so chose to completely humiliate the country instead by arguing with the highly respected NTSB and making Egyptians look incompetent and stupid in the global press by putting forward all sorts of idiotic excuses as to why the plane crashed.
Everyone who has ever studied the crash has said it was obvious that Al-Batouti crashed the plane, he had the motive and all of the evidence supports it. The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) has the final say on cause and so the cause is attributed to a damaged component, but the NTSB have stated that as nonsense, since it was proven that the component in question was only damaged by the extreme forces on the plane as it dove in to the sea, they attribute the crash to malicious intent on behalf of the pilot.
@@krashd That's my understanding, too. Egypt's denial of the cause lowered my opinion of that country immensely. Its denial and behavior is something I'd expect from Russia and China.

Never leave someone in the cockpit by themself. They can lock the other pilots out and have all the controls to themself

"HEY PRETTY LADY! WHERE DID YOU GET TO?!"
As someone who knew two people killed in this tragedy, it's too bad that so few people understand that because of denial--and the U.S. State Department's unwillingness to call Egypt on the condition of the pilot, families had little legal recourse. There was NO restitution for loved ones' horrific deaths.
There is more to the story than what the public has been told. There were 33 Egyptian military officers on that plane, coming home after receiving arms training from the American Military. They were targeted and the investigation was covered up.

There was a Grandpa And Grandma onboard😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
For those who don't understand how it happened, (even though you should) basically the first officer in the black shirt purposely crashed the plane to get revenge. He was going to be demoted and was scolded by the pilot before the takeoff. This made him extremely mad. He kept saying the phrase "I rely on god" constantly as he controlled the plane and sent it into a nose dive. He didn't want to face his consequences for what he had done before so he decided to take his life... along with 216 others. R.I.P to the passengers and other crew who perished in this incident.

So no one knows what happened. Why would he crash a plane for being demoted, doesn't make sense.
Everyone knows what happened, Egypt just won’t accept it. He was told he would no longer be allowed to fly the popular route Egypt-US due to his predator behavior to young girls and women in US hotels. I believe suicide is primarily an act of cowardice. I hold nothing against those who commit that act though. I simply believe they had much more awaiting them, but they decide to simply chicken out before seeing it through. Except people who take even one life with them. That I consider terrorism regardless of if they are allied with an organisation or not. To me any act of war is terrorism.
I do not judge those who decide to end it all. After all, I can't know their suffering. But I have no forgiveness for those who take their own lives and others' lives too.

Ty!
The acting In this is terrible
It wasn't the pilot's fault. This was just a cover for the builder. I remember this. Some Boeing 767 aircraft were grounded after this accident. The same elevator problem on all. Money matters more than the trooth. The engines were shut off as a measure in order to slow down the plane. His ideea, who knows... but not the reason of the crash. At such speed no plane would have stalled. The man was praying and maybe overpassed by the situation and shocked. He was alone in the cockpit and this might have been horible in this situation.
It was suicide. He pushed the yoke forward sending the plane into a dive right after the captain left to take a piss. Stop with the bullshit.
They were grounded because for 2 or 3 days, there were simply no answers, beyond a fishing boat that saw the plane hit the water. IT IS THE REASON for the crash, though motivation might have been air terrorism.
The bolts were faulty. End of story. Boeing didn’t want to pay up. So what if the first officers private life was seedy, but a story was built around it. This is a very biased and questionable documentation.
It was pilot suicide
So according to your one liner it’s pretty conclusive that this was pilot suicide. Thanks.
Let me remind you of Flight 811 where the cargo doors flew open and passengers lost their lives.
The official report was fudged for commercial reasons, until Mr and Mrs Campbell stole those documents and discovered the truth. Their son had died a gruesome death.
As a result many lives were saved in future flights.
Learn to question authority, they have ruined many lives.
The crucial mechanisms in the tail plane were faulty and were found in other planes.
This documentary was drama and possibly funded by interested parties. It happens.

Sorry but I am finished with you,
I am editing my prior comment: I believe it was not caused by the pilot. I dont agree with the ntsb findings.
