The fact that Al was so keenly insistent on "relieving" the co-pilot. The plane encountering an issue after the captain left. Switching the autopilot off. Cutting off the fuel to the engines despite an elevator being the issue. Al not responding to the Captain's question. Al not declaring an emergency/mayday. And finally Al continuing to push the stick down despite him being experienced enough to know that pulling on the stick is how to recover a dive. These FACTS alone are enough damning evidence that this was an intentional act.

I know this not the important part here but his last name is Al-Batouti , to simplify "Al" mean "the" its the same Al in alchemy, alcohol, algebra. In the sense its similar to name like O'Connor. So if you call some one with last name albatouti just "Al" its like saying "O" for names like O'Connor. Again not trying to be rude or anything

@uwais msnn why he did not declare emergency, why he did not call mayday, why he did not respond to captain, why he was misbehaving to women, why he wanted to take place on sticks early, why he did not behave like a professional pilot even after being experienced trainer, why he did not mention anything about a problem if at all anything to the captain, why he is keeping on chanting phrases rather than communicating with ATC or Captain, Why the mismatch between the series of events and airplanes erroneous flight path and flight inputs. I am sure none of the authorities have any answer to this. Still people like you are trying and hide these facts. It may be true that an existing mechanical drawback of the airplane design has been identified and reccomended for changes. But no clear cut evidence on weather it was indeed a mechanical failure because there was opposite inputs from both pilots that led to shearing off rivets. These are recorded evidence and you are simply ignoring it. From the beginning itself Egyptian authorities are desperately trying to find a mechanical cause alone for the crash. And moreover not allowing the FBI to investigate more on this at Egypt, why???. I am pretty sure if Egyptian authorities were more desperate they could have come up with more cooked up mechanical causes!!! RIP to innocent loves lost!!!! No means to offend co-pilots family but still if something is wrong you should not justify it.

When the captain got back to the cockpit and asked “what is happening” and having no response from the relief first officer, that should be a red flag right there. Pilots are trained to communicate with each other to solve the problem but the fact that the relief first officer didn’t cooperate is really sketchy.

It was shot down by a missile on accident (or on purpose) and was a cover up. The reason he turned off the auto pilot was so he can navigate around the missile defences, and later when the second pilot arrived they werent arguing? He was literally helping him achieve his mission. Also in addition there were 33 egyptian officers and 3 NUCLEAR scientists. @Hayden Burns How is one biased for not condemning but defending the one who supposedly killed her father. That makes no sense at all. My 2 cents. If Batouti wanted that plane to go down he would have made far more convenient actions that would fit a mass murder-suicide. The unintelligable phrase at the beginning of the ordeal was thought to be "control it" or "hydraulic". If we assume it to be hydraulic it could change the entire case. If you listen to the VCR you"ll notice the phrase dials down and comes to a complete halt shortly after the Captain enters. Beside that it should be assumed that if Batouti was about to embrace death he would have used other phrases, don't take my Muslim word for it. Search for hijacking transcripts or even Muslim suicidal pilots. The last words are always either "God is great" or "I bare witness there is only one God, and Mohammed is his messenger". There is not one single case that i could find under these circumstances where that didn't happen. Hell, even some non suicidal pilots were recorded saying one of those two on their final moments. I also believe this is why Egypt protested so heavily against the American investigation. Anyway back to the point, the captain asking wether the engines are off, for some reason people think this was a suprising qeustion to Batouti, but if you listen to the recording it is much more in the tone of a order then a reqeust. The captain clearly tries to convey the same message in a different and clear way where he made a small mistake and said "get away "in" the engines" which he almost directly corrected with "shut the engines" in which Batouti replies "it's shut" inmediatly in a firm and stressed tone. Those were his last words. Beside that you also can't disgard the 150 planes that were grounded and i believe 53 of those had to undergo maintainance on the elevators. I think this was a case of extraordinary odds gone bad, but we will likely never know for sure. Have a blessed and peacefull day :).

It’s actually something common that you see for long time employees of a company that are forced out to get a bout of depression, lash out at people. What I don’t understand is why his superior had to travel to NYC to have a talk with him, when the employee in question was a pilot and would be in Cairo in couple days, I assume the head pilot wanted a free trip to NYC, he should had waited to drop the news on him when they came back to Cairo, put him on fake medical leave and let him retire in 3 months. Once the news was delivered in NYC that he was being forced out, he never should had been allowed to fly the plane again.

The Egyptian government had a hand in this. The story is that one of the military officers who was suppose to be on the plane is the current president of Egypt right now, El SISI. El SISI was suppose to be on the flight and moments before he boards the plane he was informed by someone not to get on the plane and he survived the "accident". The aim was to kill the Egyptian military officers who were training with the US army. No one knows why and anyone who speaks about that flight disappears. There is even rumours that the Mossad is involved because the military officers were considered scientists who were building weapons that could threaten Israel's sovereignty. A real story that actually happened was that an Egyptian scientist snuck parts of a missile undetectable by radars into several flights that would later be rebuilt in Egypt. The Mossad found out about it and as a result the US government took back the missile and arrested the scientist. The Egyptian president at the time (Mubarak) fired the general in charge of the operation. It is believed that the general was loved by the military and that there was connection between him and some of the officers on board the flight.

One exception to your statement, not entirely sure if the NTSB investigators became so tunnel visioned with a biased, preconceived notion they felt was the cause or Boeing consulted with the NTSB to blame the pilots to avoid grounding 1,700 727s, the TWA 727 piloted by Hoot Gibson that fell over 30,000 feet in less than a minute before the pilots regained control and landed, the investigators from almost minute one believed the pilots had done something to cause the dive, then they insisted they were messing around with the flaps, and never thoroughly questioned the pilots about the events leading up to the dive, even allow them to tell their version of what happened, nor did an appropriate analysis of every part that could cause a loss of control. The final report blamed the pilots for the dive for extending the flaps and slats in cruise but the physical evidence showed the dive was due to a lower rudder hardover and when the gear was extended in a last ditch attempt to save the plane, there was an overextension that ruptured a hydraulic line and centering the lower rudder.
Had they questioned the pilots they would have learned the plane yawed several times before the dive.
The good news is that this was due to a fluttering outboard aileron, being at 39,000 feet and a faulty yaw damper which wouldn’t have necessarily caused a grounding of all 727s, and there were some other instances of a yaw damper and hydraulic lock causing a rudder hardover but none were at 39,000 feet or had a fluttering outboard aileron.
But as you said, every investigation is conducted professionally and with the exception of the Hoot Gibson story, what the NTSB declared happen in over 150,000 reports was what most likely happened.

The cockpit recorder clearly explains what was going on that is why he did not say anything to not incriminate himself on the insurance payout for his family. Anyone who does not talk about what the airplane is doing during an event like that should never set foot inside a cockpit and their intent is clear, taking down the airplane on purpose as it has happened before. This was clearly intentional as he never spoke back to the captain as to what he was doing to recover.

Others have done it. Germanwings, perhaps the missing Malaysian Air plane. It was not because he was Egyptian. It seems to me that they are just as guilty of what they are accusing the NTSB of. They refuse to look at the evidence that is there and refuse to believe that any Egyptian could ever commit murder/suicide simply because why?? Because they are Egyptian? No, they are human and can fall prey to the same things that other races or ethnicity do. The man was angry enough to the point that he was willing to take himself out and everyone else on that plane. He would not be the first.

I would have to side with the NTSB’s conclusions because Egypt’s culture places a lot of praise on their pilots and are more likely to blame the equipment than admit that pilots are human beings who are capable of irrational actions. Since they are all primarily Muslim, their culture have very serious taboos in regards to suicide. The Egyptian investigators were also unwilling to accept pilot error as the cause of Flash Airlines Flight 604’s accident because of Egypt’s culture.

Unfortunately we'll probably never get the real story, but my take on it is El Batouty felt shamed for getting busted for his bad behavior and he took the cowardly way out and purposely crashed the plane so he wouldn't have to publicly face his punishment and the Egyptian government tried to cover it up to avoid embarrassment and possible trouble with our country. Either way, it was such a sad loss of innocent lives.

Even if, and that's a really big and improbable if, the relief first officer didn't do it on purpose, he's still majorly responsible for the accident and all those deaths. Even if it had been a genuine mechanical issue, he handled the emergency so badly that he might've just as well directly caused it. He didn't react as a trained pilot would - he didn't try to rectify the situation, he didn't communicate with his captain, he didn't do anything at all that could indicate he was trying to be a part of the solution.
As for the tyre argument; is it so inconceivable that that phone call could've happened before the crucial meeting with the chief pilot? Or, alternatively, isn't it possible he could've decided to commit suicide only once he boarded the plane?

However, the 2013 crash of LAM Mozambique 470 received very little media attention because it happened in a 3rd world country and only 33 people died, it’s never been officially confirmed that pilot suicide brought down MH370, so by the time of Germanwings, they believed that the case of pilot suicide was long gone. So awful that their government chose to focus on protecting the murderer instead of raising up the captain who did everything he could to save them!

Major credit for showing both sides of the story. Given the tensions between US and Egypt in 1999, it makes sense why the Egyptian government would try and pin the crash on the American Boeing instead of the Egyptian crew (even if the crewmember in question had a history of sexual harassment and had just been told he was doing his final flight from the US). I think the final straw for me is the Egyptian government trying to cover up Al-Batouti's history to prevent the FBI getting too much evidence. Clear that politics got in the way of a proper air crash investigation, but at least the 767's mechanical failures were found thanks to the Egyptian search into mechanical failure.

So many bad/odd actions from the relief first officer. It's very difficult to craft a scenario where he isn't, at least partly, to blame.
Best case scenario there was a issue with the plane, but he didn't communicate and made serious mistakes in flying the plane that led to a crash.
Worst case, and frankly the simpler scenario; He planned revenge and as part of that was eager to take over from the regular first officer, waited until he was alone in the cockpit, and tried to fly the plane straight into the sea. It didn't go as flawlessly as planned as the captain made it back and tried to save the plane, but it was close enough.
