  • In this video I add a $10 Amazon water pump to the cooling system of my Proboat Veles 29 V2 Catamaran.
I installed the same kind of pump on my Traxxas M41 and it lowered my temps a lot.
Going to start doing some running videos of my boats. What boats do you guys want to see....
    Proboat Impulse 32 6s
    Proboat Veles 29 6s
    Proboat Shockwave 26 4s
    Proboat River Jet 23 4s
    Proboat Geico V Hull 17 3s
    Traxxas M41 6s

I hate to break it but here is no need to do this on a FE boat. You would never see this on a racing setup. You are actually reducing cooling by doing this once the boat is moving, creating additional resistance by going through the pump. Not to mention added weight. Obviously if the boat isn't moving this will keep moving water through, but the point is to run the boat. The faster you go the harder the water flows through the jacket. If you have your cooling set up right there is no need for this. You can actually get more out of your cooling just by rotating the cooling jacket to the right so the inlet is at the lowest point and the outlet is at the very top to increase water contact with the motor housing. Increase your tube ID/OD and drill out the water pickups.

Great video man. However the lovely part about fast rc boats is a pump is not needed because the pump can’t provide as much water cooling as the water that can be forced by pressure. The faster you go the more cooling. With a pump you are actually limited on how much water can be pumped by the motor. Great for slow speed yachts or cruising but not so good for high speed

@@detroitdiesel7074 It cuts temps in half if you check the temps after a few minutes of letting the pump flow water through the system. If you were to check temps during a run (while the motor and ESC are pulling a big load) you would see that the pump is worse for cooling as it has a much lower flow rate.

I used the same pump on my Veles 29 but I mounted it near the receiver and used the aux port. Now Im running another pickup and dual lines instead of the pump it works good.

Same here on my sonicwake plus a rubber sealed switch poking up through the top for on/off after i put it in the water the pump isn't always on. What I'm trying to figure out is a way to switch it on and offwith the auxiliary using a DX5C transmitter.

That depends on the pump. They come in 5v versions and 12v versions. the 5v can be plugged right into your receiver, as they have a typical BEC voltage of 5-6v (even 6v is fine)

I tested your idea and the end result was not good!!! Caused my Sonicwake to burn and melt all 3 motor leads due to extreme high temps!!! The electric pump is not a good idea on electric boats EVER because it restricts the water flow to the motor and esc, and thus allows for higher temps during runs and that defeats the purpose of the cooling line circuit and what it was designed to do. Water pumps are only used in gas rc boats to assist in heat transfer when the boat is idle on the water. I would highly recoomend that you delete this video as it is providing false information to other people that could result in them ruining their boats electronics. There is no way you got lower temps using this pump unless you allowed the boat to sit in the water and transfer heat before taking temp readings which is not the way any of us collect data. Run the boat hot and take temps immediately after the run. Then see what you have. I bet your data changes drastically!!! Ditch the pump idea and just run larger cooling lines. You will transfer way more heat efficiently that way versus using an electric pump. Trust me I collected the data already and have no problems producing a video to prove that.

While all that may be true, if your running a boat that isn't a high speed boat then the pump is still useful.
