- The 3D printed rainbow boat is back! This is a fully working radio controlled boat made with a 3D printer, even the propeller! How cool is that? Today we are replacing the electric motor with a much more powerful one. We are also upgrading the voltage from 16V to 24V!
If you haven't seen the first one, watch it here:

RCLifeOn noooo not the rainbow unicorn boat, plz make a dual jet boat
Liking your own comment. What a twat XD
Does the water cooling work ? 😂😂
You said that the PLA was getting soft. Could you not use a spray uv plastic coating over it?
PLA loves to absorb moister. You may have to put it in the oven to dry it out.
Please Review the Ender 5
Try making a tapered jet nozzle (thrust vectoring) to ensure u have a bit more pressure/ force to move the boat faster
Submerging it a little deeper could help.
Exactly. Print a few nozzles with different diameters to find what works best for your boat. Larger nozzle = more low end power & a smaller nozzle = more high end power. You will need to find the right balance. Once you find the right diameter nozzle then move the top mounting hole position until you find the right trim angle. You could even use another servo for trim and tie it to the throttle channel with a curve /mix ( as throttle goes up the nozzle will pitch up). This will reduce drag on the hull by lifting the nose.
Smaller jet system overall i would say. Look at something like the brinksman jetboats, they have tiiiiny propulsionsystems, and goes like crazy 😃
That silly big nozzle has been bothering me since the first jet boat he made, narrowing the nozzle will increase the speed at which the water leaves the nozzle and will 100% make it a faster boat
yup! the fast electric jet boats use about 24-25 mm nozzle and 30-32 mm impeller. I like this guy's enthusiasm, but homework is needed!
oof, that muted music

Hobbyking: “TAKE OUR STUFF”
😂😂
Lol. "Shut up and take my money!"
And endup going 40 mph.......
Hobbyking: give our shit back you liar
rev headz if you can't deliver than don't say it
yeah, i hope HK never sponsor him again
Yes I liked the heli sound with the drone too. The best part was jumping in the water and transitioning to the boat taking off. You make good videos dude... Keep up the great work.
The helicopter sound is top shelf. I agree:)
Pls make a electric surfboard. It would be awsome 💪 (i've already tried something like this)
This. I'm working towards a jet surfboard, starting with my kayak.
Or an electric hydrofoil board. Let’s set the bar high...no pun intended
robotmarketplace-dot-com has 24v 2.1hp motor about 110 dollars US.
with a 2:1 gear reduction and aluminum propeller from YoungProp-dot-com (submerse props for trolling motors) you CAN build a surfboard or hydrofoil to get up to planing speeds. for a kayak a 300w electric scooter motor is actually plenty, running just 12v. use 5/16" shaft is a perfect fit inside 3/8" hard brake line tubing, perfect and inexpensive!
I subscribe this ideia :)
@@modelnutty6503 Or google eFoil Builders forum and see how it's done correctly...
"I got a tan. A lot of dreams came true today" - Yes more of this
I got to say that it’s really cool how much effort an creativity you put in your videos, just go on with that. Like it👍🏼👍🏼
The best part of your videos are the extra sounds.. Helicopter drone and jumping into the lake with the water drop.. You deserve all the popularity you get. Definitely one of my favorite channels on youtube and now I have a 3d printer to start making my own rc toys.
I liked that you included all the failures. Their not really failures just the evolution of a build. Good as always.
yes, but more homework/research would be more successes!!
I was a long time RC helicopter guy until i had my son. Now he’s old enough to get into RC stuff with me, so im excited to dust off the hobby room equipment. I have decided helicopters are too time consuming and you have inspired me to do drones and oddball type projects like these. The hobby takes on a whole new dimension with 3d printers, we have a Prusa mk3 that should be more then capable of printing frames and other stuff. I have years of high end RC work gear, soldering stations, fabrication parts like carbon fiber, containers of connectors, servos, bl motors, speed controllers, etc. thanks for your wonderful videos showing how far the hobby has c0me
Make a small submarine
It will be awesome...!!
Probably the fastest and simplest rc boat that i have seen on RUclips yet Simple and supper fast. Great work.
You should make one with dual jets
Heck ya
Make it like the real speedboats. Quintuple jets. Just put as many in as possible.
Yaaaa omg that would be amazing
Check my channel, not the best quality vid but you'll get the gist
reduce the impeller/pickup diameter, or install a smaller diameter nozzle your looking to produce a JET of high speed water, not a flood of mid speed water. Also it wont plane because it is literally carrying like 3 lbs of water in your large diameter turbine assy.
yup bernoulli's principle
Your also not planing because your vacuuming the boat down with the turbine tunnel... the front of the tunnel should point forward... go turn a jet ski over and have a look.
@@stephenkamin1345 There's no turbine anywhere in this boat. There's an impeller driven by an electric motor.
@@AB-80X there could be tho
You’re my latest “discovery” attended by RUclips to watch. Man this is pure and funny. I like the projects, the humor, the fails and the good results, the good movie quality, your English. Should I go on?
I think your movies are far under valued and you deserve mutch more views. Go for it, Simon!
cool vid nice boat ,ive done a lot of boats in my time and some over 80 mph if you want to get a little more speed in a simple way sand the bottom of the boat so it is not smooth it will break the surface tension ,it work its a trick that was given to me
My favorite shot 9:03 👌
that is a nice shot
My favorite part was the little "bloop" when you cannonballed into the water. Made me laugh out loud, lol.
Yes, that was the best part for me also :)
OMGosh, Simon, the sound effects were cracking me up. The "blurp!" over your cannonball into the lake, and the helicopter for the drone footage! Excellent.
Glad the Hobby King motor and battery upgrade were a success.
That was awesome man!!!!!
What about a submarine 🤯, it would be breathtaking 😂😂
Huge tip, move the inlet for the cooling to sit above the prop, then there is always water flow under good pressure
I thought exactly the same. Would even adjust the cooling flow proportional to the throttle. =)
This guy editing just blows my MIND
You know, sometimes we just watch and like it.
Nice to show us where it gets stuck in this wonderful hobby.
Love your work! I've watched your stuff for over a year now and gone through all your old stuff too. Great filming, editing and projects! Your uploads are better quality and have more interesting content than anything on TV these days.
The effort and amount of work that has been put into this video is absolutely ridiculous. Much appreciated
I think that you should have used the positive pressure side of the thrust system to cool the motor :)
A small tap pressed though the side of the turbine housing, just like you did with the bottom, would have done wonders!
yes, my water pickup for surface drive props are behind the top tip of propeller, what would be part of the rooster-tail is forced into the tubing without causing drag on the hull bottom. edit: near impossible for it to get clogged too.
@Cambpictures
Exactly, that’s what I was thinking…
You match the size of the orifice of the tap, so that it provides the right amount of cooling for the motor.
+1. exactly what i was thinking
Cambpictures agreed
I hope HobbyKing supports future projects. I real appreciate your ingenuity with electronics
"The Pride of Sweeden"
Awesome video Simon !
Keep up the great work.
With love from Canada 🍻
I dont understand how anybody could possibly dislike this video. This is high quality content. You Sir, are going to be an awesome engineer! Greetings, an engineer.
video quality and your humour is on point.
Getting my first 3D printer tomorrow can't wait to start printing. Thanks Simon for learning some things about which printer to get. Creality Ender 3
I clicked this video by accident, then got hooked. Great video. +1 sub
I'm so impressed by your ability to drive an RC boat while simultaneously following it with a drone. Or how you get a tracking shot while driving the boat! Great video man!
always great content, videography, and love the wardrobe!!
keep up the great work!
Russ from Ocala, Florida, USA
I love it when you talk swedish! Makes me want to see more of your beautiful country, I've only been to Stockholm. Keep up the great work, it's always a pleasure to watch your enthusiastic soul produce awesome content
9:04 nice transition man if I could like twice I would for that
Just a tip. I raced full sized jet boats with the same jet drive design. Instead of using the inlet in front of the intake for the motor cooling. What we do in the full sized boats is put the inlet in the pump itself after the impeller. The pump pressure feeds the water to cool the engine, or motor in this case. Also, the nozzle seems very large for what I would expect of a boat of that size and power. Honestly our full size race boat has an opening maybe only double that size. So it seems very large for the scale of the boat. Not sure if you experimented with different sizes when making it. But I would expect an opening half that size, maybe even smaller to get the water moving much much faster out the nozzle, similar to how a garden hose works when putting your thumb over the opening.
Really cool stuff, keep it up.
On the jet pump on the nozzle you need to do a taper and make it smaller at the tip it will go so much faster
Yeah about 30% reduction in diameter would help heaps
More curved stator vanes would lots too.
Nice video though
yes, you are moving way more water volume than you need! Making the nozzle taper to a smaller opening will increase the velocity of the water a great deal. There is a happy medium between volume and velocity of water that is most efficient. For your setup, it's going to be quite a bit smaller opening with a longish taper. Probably 1/2 the opening output size you have now I would guess...
It’s called a venturi
snikwahjets I was thinking the same thing after I saw the video. Might be worth making a video on this experiment.
love seeing this from the start and then for it to work all in the end and how you fixed all the major issues
You got a Scandinavian Tan, also known to the rest of the world as a sun burn, haha!
Jk, much love from Norway~
AMAZING! Very well done! I've got very encouraged watching your project. Thank you very much. George
Use the Same Motor but make a Hydrofoil Boat Instead!!!😁👍🏻
I just love the way you narrate your videos. Looks like you have sound construction. Your speed is a matter of an effective propulsion solution. Great scientific built!!
Cool project, fun coments and a really nice editing job. Even desent english, witch made it a bit more interesting when i saw your location, i live 8km away.. Keep up the good work!
Great footage
Electric jet skiis seem to have faster acceleration than gas models. I think that you should design a mini jet ski that you can ride and double your power with two motors.
Well done, quality presentation and the boat was helpful for a project I am doing currently. Take Care - Australia, Melbourne
nice boat! now make it jet powered! :D
Great video mate love the filming weather location.... Brilliant
Could you do a video on a giant RC Benchy boat!? 😂
you got one of the best video transitions i ever seen on RUclips. the helicopter is so clever btw. well done
Hydrofoil? Go on, you know you want to! Well at least I want to see it and can't be bothered to build it. :-)
I'm from brazil, and your channel is an inspiration to me, i bought a 3d printer and i begin to study english to understand more easily your channel.
I think you should 3D print an electric skateboard
That was great! Now let's see the dual-motor design!
Hey I think you should try and make the outlet smaller. More thrust
Jep
Nice spot, great shots, love your pontoon, great fish🇦🇺
Nice boat! can you make some kind of 4x4 all terrain rc car with an arduino or a raspberry pi? You could even make it so it could drive when it flips by giving it bigger wheels
Amazing editing! Thank you for sharing your maker's endeavours. My first RC experience have been FPV multirotors but RC boats look like a lot of fun (in summer at least).
Did you make that Pontoon Barge aka SS Duct-tape?
I Al.most forgot the main comment... If you would decrease the output size of the jet nozzle by half it will accelerate the water much faster. Also seal the part where that water is leaking and shooting up. making a new nozzle will easily give you 2x the speed.
You did not need to seal it... you should have designed in a coupler... press fit...
Im amazed, the amount of effort to record and produce such videos is astonishing.
Haha!! "... å jag fick en bränna. Många drömmar gick i uppfyllelse!" Garvade högt.

Really enjoyed the video... Great work!

I from Brasil, get a tan is a January's Tuesday!
Caio Callor In the Philippines you'll get a tan every fucking day mate
Thanks for the video. Big fan of your projects. Keep on going!
I am freaking out about your project. It is just beautiful and gorgeous . Build a rc boat is one of my goals in life. But how did you design and create the hull. With a pc Programm and a 3D printer?? In this case, which one??
Just search for 3d program for printers and you will find lots or buy an printer first and the use the asociated program or even Maya 3d desk
Go stil du har! Tack för garven och dom snygga klippen.
Is it possible tooo?
1.) make it autonomous
2.) put a radar on it
I’m thinking of an autonomous fish finding r/c boat the that can also map the water.
Wow you have great knowledge on these I'm just starting out got the 3D printer what a cool hobby
Hi,
With your nozzle how much are you compressing the water after the impeller? Also the steering nozzle should taper down to compress the existing water.
With my hamilton jet boat with a hamilton 773 jet unit has a Scott tilt steering nozzle which can tune be fitting different inserts into steering nozzle which changes the nozzle diameter.
As someone else said take cooling water out after the impeller.
Man, that boat was on a roll. Rainbow oat in blue sky. Amazing. Keep it up.
Ive never been this early
Maybe becuz im visiting Sweden and closer to the god
Super cool. I really like some of the unique ways you capture video. A possible solution to the leaky rear would be have a recessed circular groove that you could put an O ring in. Keep up the good work!
Love the creativity of all your shots and extra footage.
You got some nice speed out of that one. I'm actually doing a similar project myself, modeling a water jet rc boat. I'm almost done, but ofc my 3d printer broke down during printing, so I'm waiting for spares before I can continue printing.
I found a solution for water cooling that actually works pretty well: On the water jet tube, just after the impeller, I put a small nipple/tube where I connect my tubing for the water cooling, it works surprisingly well. It has to be placed on the rotation direction of the impeller though, or else it wont work.
The rainbow boat, is really cool. I really would like to see, a version two of this. Like an amphibious vehicle. That would look, amazing.
For a 3d printed boat, I'm quite impressed 👍. Good job
I like the design of the integrated propeller and the funnel stearing.
For me you're a genius...don't stop tour work never
Cool design, You should take the cooling water from the impeller tube. 😊
A true experimental science channel. Amazing content ! Quality content !
Gratulerar !!!
Great workmanship, Great video !!!
Very entertaining commentary.
(I also enjoyed the scenic views. Your country is beautiful... )
You making your own toys is cool enough, but on top of that you are an excellent camera man and show host as well. Keep up the good work!
Just an absolutely amazing video! Thank you Simon!
I wish I had half your knowledge and experience when it comes to rc electronics and 3D printing. Love the vids. Keep it up!
And also your ingenuity
WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!
Now that's how you do it!! Very impressive sir.
I thought you did great lt is amazing to me what bright minds are capable of
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
THANK YOU
That perch looked absolutely delicious!!! Best tasting fish in all the land.
This could be like a mini series. Make the rainbow boat as fast as possible!
@RCLifeOn love your process of working through issues. Great video as always!
You're editing is stellar man. The dive in shot was amazing.
I like the editing on this one! Got a few chuckles 😄
That’s a nice looking fish! You’re editing skillz r above reproach.

Love it !!
This is the first video of yours I've seen, a new subscriber is born !!
Great video. Is that chopper sound @ 8:24 from the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 ??
I could swear it is...
Looking forward to more from you !!
Good to see you persevering. Nice raft too.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Keep them coming. Thanks.
