Just FYI, I posted one of your cooking videos in my reddit and FB SUV women's groups. Cooking and being healthy doing vanlife is such a big deal. Everyone is all about hiking. No one is doing healthy eating, as I've said before. LOL. I think we will all benefit from this channel.

Do we do this gradually if in an apartment, if we need to choose do we just go straight into car or van dwelling or slowly immerse ourselves into it? I’m trying to figure things out and I haven’t paired down yet with personal belongings but the idea of spending 1200 a month or rent is crazy. Thanks

    Me too. 😢 63 in February. I spent my life working to get a degree, raise a family, ministries at church, try (and fail x 3) to build a career. Crushing disappointments, betrayals, injustices, etc. etc. For what? Nothing. I do have property. Also make $80K a year. Counting down the days and weeks - one more year until I have 5 years with this state job and can apply for retirement. So many regrets, but hoping to be free too someday. My dream is to live in a van, leisurely mornings, eating slowly and deciding what to do with myself for the day.

    I've been a van lifer for two years and loving it. I worked all my life, 23 years in the military and several jobs afterwards. I was able to pick and choose jobs that were gratifying. Only one job was stressful and that was a corporate job as a supervisor for a large medical organization. After three years I resigned from a $75K position to making $10 an hour and I was happy. I am 76 and collect a pension and social security and have low debt, my van note and two credit cards with low balances. I travel wherever the compass takes me. I use gyms and truck stops to shower. My days are not usually planned. I love being a nomad.

    You’re living the dream! I hate that I have to spend the majority of my time working just to pay off debt. I’d rather be free though like you. Living in my car, then bus, and now a reliable new mini-SUV has stabilized my income so much and I’m actually making real progress on my debt now. My story with school and work is actually fairly similar to yours. I studied mechanical engineering because I thought that’s what I needed to make a good income. Hated it and kept getting laid off so I went back to school to finish my piano performance degree. I taught for about 5 years and loved it but the way I was working and the amount of time I had to put in to teach and perform to make a living made me not really care about music anymore. It wasn’t the way I wanted to work. I’ve been driving delivery vans the last couple years and making surprisingly good money at it but there’s an end date to it that I have to look forward to once my debt is paid off or my channel makes enough money I can quit. It’s nice to see someone that’s made it and can really start living in a way that makes them happy!

And it's about every aspect of your life : job, kids, Education,housing... minimalism helps me to refuse consumerism and debt. Even buying a huge house isn't worth it. Girl...slow mornings are where it's at! I currently have a low cost life...and I have those slow mornings. I also am planning on doing the same thing soon... just waiting on a settlement check to begin my journey. I used to work 40-45 sometimes over 45hrs per week...NO MORE. I was raising my kid at the time but now I'm 46, living in a situation I don't want to be in and this seems like my only alternative...I so feel you. I never wanted a house... really? I admire people who can live in the moment, instead of constantly worrying about bills and other problems. Thank you! I just retired from a $100k+/yr, high stress engineering job at 60 y.o., and some people are giving me some guff. There is a narrative going around, naturally by people not even close to "retirement age," that one should aspire to never quit working. It makes me angry. I loved your outro! Although my situation is slightly different in me being older, I feel the premise. As for my dream life...I do have a hobby I love and am good at, that being trading in the financial markets, at my own pace, and only for myself. I live a a fairly minimalist life in a "Destination trailer" that is parked in a relatively economical permanent situation. I'm not into traveling too much anymore; I've had my day, But I should get out into nature a little more than I do...

    Ramadan Kareem, Monique. I accidentally stumbled on one of your videos and I just couldn't stop watching more than one and ultimately subscribed. :) I totally agree with you about the lack of work/life balance here in the US. As an African who migrated to Europe in my early teens and spent 13 years there (university and the whole shebang), I thought it'd be better here and moved to the US in pursuit of the "American Dream". I think you should go back to Europe to live there as an adult because, as we say over there: "Americans live to work, Europeans work to live." They have an AMAZING work/life balance that somehow seems to work perfectly well (free education, my university tuition was $150/year!!! and free healthcare while taxes are only slightly higher and I didn't complain paying taxes because someone had to foot the bill for my education so it's only normal you do the same.) I didn't even know the word "tuition" until I had an interview with the Assistant Dean of the School -- I thought "tuition" meant that it was going to cover everything (school, rent, books...etc.) I laugh when I think about that interview and the misunderstandings as I asked if I could choose the dorm where I'd be assigned and she was confused..... She took 20 minutes to explain to me that tuition was for school ONLY. I just couldn't wrap my head around it so I wasn't understanding what she meant, like $35k for a year, and she's telling me I can go live wherever I please?? Anyhow, I think it's insanity that people leave college or grad school, as in my case, burdened by soo much debt, it's exactly what you called it: modern slavery. Anyhow, thanks for your videos and I wish you and Moussa all the best! You're inspiring! Much love!

    I just came across your channel. Thank You For Spreading This Message! Your way of life is what I'm teaching my children.
    I'm not talking about car or van living. I'm talking to them about a simple life and that the "American" way of chasing money is nonsense. A contemplative life is the most beautiful. We need to change the idea of what success truly means.
    I tell my children, "Dying a slow death at a job that doesn't feed your spirit is Not success." And that's the life that most people are living. In my opinion that is why mental illness is more of an issue now a days.
    It's even depressing thinking about how most people are living.
    You're amazing! And an inspiration!! Keep doing You!!!

    Aww I adore this, thank you for sharing it all. I hate working and have been trying to understand how not to work thus reducing my life costs slowly and one day hope to live out of a tiny house or a van... don't know yet. But I have also noticed that having a debt absolutely distorts our vision and distracts from who we really are. I know many Australians (I live here but wasn't born here) see debt as a stepping stone/support. I see it as a vicious circle of stuck. I accumulated tax debt to afford being alive and have been stuck making so little I have to choose between food and debt sometimes. This isn't worth it. Slow morning is The Thing. Also, work and slavery aren't too different.

    • @simmpleenough
      @simmpleenough  5 месяцев назад +1

      It’s the same way in the US. The amount of people who tell me that debt is good because it helps build good credit is astounding. I paid for my van in cash and someone told me I should have gotten a loan for it instead of paying cash, to build credit 😕. No thank you.
      I’m sorry you’re going through that. I hope you’re granted more ease in your life, soon ❤️.

      @@simmpleenough I heard this about americans yea. Here, they rarely speak about "good credit" and more about those future money or cash flow and how loans give you money to build upon and then pay off. I have never borrowed thankfully but I have tax debt because I needed food money. And now paying off but not making enough to pay so it's a bit tricky. I also believe that we weren't born to work. We were born to be alive and dissapear without a trace. Thank you SO MUCH for your videos. I am so inspired. I can't afford a car or a van right now but I am working towards a tiny house one day :-)

    Assalamu alaikum, sis! New subbie here. 🤚🏽I can relate so much. I’m 46 and live in the Midwest. I also happen to be Muslim. I hate working. I do not derive my sense of identity in my career or work like others seem to. I have been saying it for many, many years. I’m still in the corporate rat race, but I redefined my relationship with it. I’m not climbing the imaginary ladder. Work is solely a means to an end. I took a one and half year break from work prior to COVID and the so-called Great Resignation. It was one of the best times in my adult life. I felt so free and wondered how I can accomplish that sense of freedom permanently without corporate funding, if you understand my sarcasm. 😂 I’m on that road, but haven’t divorced corporate yet. It was very hard returning to this place after my break, but I’m glad I did because COVID hit (lockdown) 5 weeks after I started my new job. I’m glad for you, and look forward to watching and cheering for your journey back to yourself. I also share your huge disconnection from the American ideal of success. Just know a nameless someone is cheering for you. May Allah continue to bless and protect you. ❤
