Middle Tweed is Full of Silver! | Spring Salmon fishing Scotland 2024

In this vlog I'm fishing for salmon on the middle River Tweed in Scotland, on a beat called Tweedswood. The River Tweed is a beautiful world renowned fishing destination. A worthy contributor to the reputation of fly fishing in Scotland.
In this salmon fishing vlog I share insights into the techniques I use, fly choice, and strategies. There was plenty of silver in the river so a good chance for a spring salmon. Conditions were perfect.
After years of trout fishing, I turned my hand to salmon fishing last year. I'm based in the Scottish Borders with the River Tweed on my doorstep.
So far I've been mostly fishing on Horsburgh and Tweedswood but look forward venturing to other spots in the near future too.

Used to fish Melrose area when I lived their and caught plenty but the river's not quite what it used to be

True but this season is very good, this beat has 32 fish already, which is equal to what they had the whole season last year.

@@Hookedonfly they used to catch that in one beat each week back in they days I myself caught many salmon on trout flies! Mertoun estate has some good pools further down the water that hold good fish there's some deep pools and the cauld on the upper beat always supplies good luck 🤞

Great video and stunning location Tam. I enjoy a week on the Upper Tweed every year, mid October this coming year.
Which line and head are you using there? It moved really nice. Im looking at the Rio AFS Shooting Head kit, but unsure at the moment.

I’m using RIO ELITE SCANDI OUTBOUND.
I was deciding between this and the Rio shooting head kit as well.
I was looking for one line no loop to loop connection if that make sense, I would highly recommend it.

@@Hookedonfly Hi Tam, I'm booked on Holylee, Glenorminston and Fairnlee for October, they are beautiful beats also. Last year there were end of season Salmon in abundance but very lethargic in November which is when I fished and very coloured fish too. They had no interest in my flies at all.

Which beat is that Tam? I’d love to meet up with you. I’ve got a holiday home in Kelso and started salmon fishing a year ago. Struggling to get my casting right …still got my trout casting head on !! Great videos thank you and beautiful scenery. The border region is simple amazing

I was fishing in upper levels last November as well, seen lots and lots of fish moving but never touch any.
Apparently that’s the hardest time of the year to catch them, as they are focused only on spawning.

Beat is called Tweedswood, really good place to fish.
Ah good for you, Kelso is nice and have a nice tackle shop as well.
It’s hard to come from single handed rod to double but practice make perfect 👌

Salmon are getting scarce I fished d river Moy in Ireland all my life never seen it as bad 😢
