Wonderful Views of Sky and river Ian a pleasure to watch. The one that got away! Well thats fishing. On to new/old pastures as the season progresses 😊 Thanks!
That is eight salmon hooked and only one landed. that's fishing and I would never complain about hooking fish and loosing them its the pool and the initial drag on the line that gets me every time Tight Lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch Iain, a masterclass in casting and patience!!. Always frustrating to lose a fish over a weir, how nice to see the swallows flying low over the water catching flies- it almost feels like summer salmon time!!Cheers Peter.
I have hooked a few fish in front of weirs and caulds and they usually got up into the pools when the fish turned it was right on the edge of the fast water and I think it was the current that took it over when it turned sideways Tight lines cheers Iain 🥃
That hook up looked like a solid fish, big smart fish! your spring seems to be shaping up better than the last couple! good to see you having a good season
we have had a bad start to the season Andrew this year we have had a lot of seals coming up river and clearing pools of residents . there are some pools that haven't recovered and fish won't lie in them due to the lack of resident fish. the seals seem to have cleared a lot of trout from the lower beats on some east coast rivers. Cheers Iain
I have always counted my self as being lucky Colin. to have the health, good friends and a wee bit of money to spend on fishing . I am definitely blessed Cheers Iain. 🥃....... it was definitely a decent size
I have been lucky again this year Steve. I have managed to fish some great stretches on a lot of different rivers. I am now an expert at losing fish This has taken years of practise to perfect 🤩 Cheers Iain. 🥃
Iain, Just a quick note - thanks so much for sharing and putting the time and effort into your productions. I’ve watched nearly all of them down through the years and they keep things bubbling during the long winters. I enjoy listening to your narratives and love the easy banter with friends, ghillies etc. Like yourself, I get about a fair bit - on different Irish rivers. We’re having a decent run of ‘Covid’ grilse this year so fishing is quite good at the moment. Anyway - hope you keep making the videos, so I’ll say no more, only to toast your good health with a wee dram and wish you all the best from a Celtic cousin for the rest of the season. Best wishes, Niall (Galway)
Thank you very much Niall I have in the past thought about giving up editing my trips as the older I get the longer it takes to edit and then respond to comments ......... I am lucky that I have comments like yours that make me spend time sifting through my recordings looking for bits that may interest. You are obviously blessed like myself that you have the time and friends that help us make the effort to go try different rivers and beats. I have found that a lot of Ghillies are helpful but don't like appearing on RUclips which is a shame as there is a lot of great characters with some amazing stories that may never be passed on. I wish you all the best for the rest of the season and coming seasons and will also lift a wee dram to toast your good health and your visits to pastures new Tight lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃 recently I was told by an angler that I had the voice that would suit radio and my face also suited radio . so no chance of appearing on TV. 😋
Thank you Frank over the years that I have added videos to RUclips I have thought about giving it up but when I get comments like yours it gives me the encouragement to keep recording and adding Cheers Iain 🥃
Unlucky Iain... not a lot you could do about that one.... lovely water to be fishing and a few fish on the move. Next time!🎣 😉👍 I hope to get out over the next couple weeks... so fingers crossed! 🤞Cheers James 🥃
It is good to get out James and I never mind loosing a few fish it makes it all the better when I do the catching. I will be out again soon and have my week booked for the Thurso in August so looking forward to that trip Cheers Iain. 🥃
I think that I may have been a bit slow in getting my rod up it must have turned after it went over the cauld . If it had kept going I might have been in with a shout. Maybe see you on the Tweed Cheers Iain. 🥃
I think that I have said it before that I am blessed with the opportunity to fish some great beats around the area that I stay . I also have the chance to go fish on the river Thurso again at the start of August so I am looking forward to it Tight Lines wherever you fish. Cheers Iain 🥃
Ah..will be there hoping and focusing in early April 2025...hope it will be lower and more settled than early April 2024!!. Iron Gate and Learmouth looked lovely on a June day. (Liked your Tweedspring fish from..Middle Pavilion ?) Here's to 2025 Simon Artley Manchester UK
Thanks Simon. the first week I ever fished on the Thurso was in April and I had 5 springers and lost another couple . I wished that I had some means of recording back then. tight lines when you get there Cheers Iain. 🥃
I think that it had turned and was going sideways Mark and the current had a hold and it decided to go with it . normally I would have expected a fish to move from the faster water into the depths of the pool I may try get it further upstream at the back end Cheers Iain. 🥃
Thanks Alex we are lucky having a sport that gives us so much excitement Can you ever compare getting a hole in one at golf to hooking a salmon Tight lines. Cheers Iain 🥃
I have no complaints Brian. I have hooked fish in similar spots on different rivers and nearly all head up stream. it's unusual for salmon to go down stream . I think that it tried to turn but got caught in the current and decided to go with it . Just got to keep fishing and having fun . Tight Lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Sometimes it's good to sit and watch fish Steve, I think it would be frustrating watching if we had to do it as a sport . I have fished a lower beat on the Tweed a few times and never saw a fin. They must be hammering past and only stopping when they get to the middle beats Cheers Iain. 🥃
Its all about getting out and enjoying fishing hooking fish is a bonus and landing one an even bigger bonus . I can settle for a bonus and will probably have to wait a while until I get a big bonus 👍 Cheers Iain. 🥃
They must lose a lot of fish there..unless it goes up stream or the fisher is some kind of Olympic athlete to get of the river and below the weir in record time!!😢
I have fished a few tails of pools that are like that Paul and usually the salmon will go upstream . you can't see in the video but the fish did turn and I think it was going to head up into the pool but the current got a hold of it and took it over the cauld and there it was gone Cheers Iain. 🥃
we et a few wee brownies when we were ladies . I can't remember the last time I kept one . maybe the next pan size one will come home with me. Catch you for a beer sometime Cheers Iain. 🥃
Wonderful Views of Sky and river Ian a pleasure to watch. The one that got away! Well thats fishing. On to new/old pastures as the season progresses 😊

I may have lost the fish Christopher but I did have a good day . The company was good and the weather wasn't against me for a change
Cheers Iain 🥃
As you say what a lovely beat to fish, unlucky losing that fish...looks like nothing could be done to avoid, it happens! thanks for sharing!

Great video Iain. Was totally gutted when you lost that fish. Was desperate to see it. Wonderful beat, lucky man.

That was rotten losing that first one Ian,it took off like a torpedo, love watching your videos 🎣
Thanks John I think it was a decent sized fish and with the flow of water on its side there wasn't any way of stopping it
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Another great video Iain, even feel the tug as the line goes , brownie counts as a catch !, it’s another great days fishing , cheers 🥃

@@IainSB hopefully see you on the tweed at some point. Any recommendations as I've only fished the Yair? Probably be later in the season though.
Hard luck with that fish Ian not a thing you could do. You fish some lovely beats.

Great to see them running. Did that fish just head back over it ?
I think that it had turned and was going sideways Mark and the current had a hold and it decided to go with it . normally I would have expected a fish to move from the faster water into the depths of the pool I may try get it further upstream at the back end
Cheers Iain. 🥃

Brilliant well done iain

Clever fish, just unfortunate Iain, you’re putting the time in and it’s paying off…
I have no complaints Brian. I have hooked fish in similar spots on different rivers and nearly all head up stream. it's unusual for salmon to go down stream . I could fish above that weir all day long seeing them come over it

You just can’t take a trick atm , one of the perils of fishing 2 flies mate
I have my August week coming soon on the Thurso and I will annoy a few salmon with two flies on Hopefully 🤞.
