    Hi Iain, what a lovely bit of water and looked very fishy indeed. That fish you hooked knew exactly where it was going and when it didn’t move I thought it’s wrapped itself around something and wasn’t budging. Great video Iain and a cracking day too. Cheers. Steve. 🥃

      Thanks Steve I hope you are both well and have managed to get the dust of your rod and reel. I couldn't believe it when the line went solid and wondered if it was a fish that had taken the fly but after getting the footage onto the computer it defiantly was a fish . the weather changed overnight and we got a bit of rain
      I am playing at editing day 2 at the moment but may not get it finished as I am out for something to eat with a mate tonight and then out splashing about again tomorrow (lucky me)
      all the best Cheers Iain. 🥃🍷

      I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to fish in such great places Christopher. its hard not to be optimistic when the ghillies and other anglers are on the same wave length
      we anglers know that these days fish are harder to catch but the slim chance of a fish is enough to draw us back to the river
      Tight lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃

    Hi Ian, your comment that you expect to catch a fish on every cast is good. I am the same, confidence is what catches fish more than anything else.
    I have confidence in my own tied flies, knots etc and good line. Clothing, rods, reels and nets are all less important.
    Nick from York

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  4 месяца назад

      Fishing is all about enjoyment and the more you put into your day on the river the better it becomes Nick . confidence and effort are the two main ingredients an angler has and after that comes a bit of patience . fishing tackle and clothing is only a small part but essential . I enjoy these videos etc but I have to say, given the chance to fish these places I'd catch too but I challenge you to come and try the river irvine or even the river ayr and see how many you can catch. I'd love the chance to fish the tay or tweed or dee for example and I have been in the Mearns leader in the early nineties for catching a big fish out the cowie in stonehaven but I can only dream of fishing a good salmon river. All my life I've wished I could and I'm mid fifties now and the salmon are going to be gone soon so only them with money will catch any. Sad days

    • @IainSB
      @IainSB  4 месяца назад +1

      It is quite sad that the numbers of fish have dropped dramatically over the past few years especially on most of the west coast rivers. I think that fish farms have a lot to answer for but there is no one in the Scottish parliament asking the questions. I am fortunate to be old enough to have seen better days and about 5 years ago Holidayed in the Dumfries area but only had a few cast as there was very little water and even less fish . I hope that one day you manage to get fishing on more of the East coast rivers as you will possibly find that there are beats that produce fish that are more affordable Tight Lines. Cheers Iain. 🥃

      @@IainSB I gave a ticket for the ayr so I'll have a go. I'm hoping to get on the north esk but only hoping, at some point this year. I am old enough to remember the irvine with most pools with a few salmon in them but yes the scottish govt is letting the fish farms away with murder and its killing the fish. Its plain to see where most of the damage comes from, I went to school with sturgeon and her and those like her are as untrustworthy as they come. I'd sooner trust old Thatcher and that's saying something

I know from experience what it is like to have seal on the end of my line and I have video from about five years ago when a seal stole my fish . I managed to record the event and if you have a look on RUclips iain sb uploads I think that it was early season about five years ago at Upper Redgorton . the seal was about 8ft in length and I had to break my line when it decided not to give the fish back to me
