Salmon fishing on the River Tweed at Upper Floors 16th May 2024

- Two days fishing on the river Tweed. There had previously been seals going up and down the river chasing and eating the salmon and berry little had been caught on the lower beats. The seals appeared to have gone back to sea and fish numbers were slowly starting to build up in the river

Ha, glad to hear they’re tying and using your Iain Bain Special on the Restigouche. A few years ago, when I started following you, I went to our local fly shop, tied a couple, and sought after some landlocked salmon. I’ve caught several this year, but on smelt patterns and nymphs. Time for me to return to the Special! Lovely sea trout!

Thanks Mat. I loved your catch of the sea trout I have had a small amount of success fishing in the sea and managed one about 5lb they are full of beans and in prime condition while they are feeding in among the kelp Cheers Iain. 🥃

there are some attractive pools James the black rock seems to be favourite one of the pools just up from the hut had 4 fish of in one day . a great stretch of water Cheers Iain. 🥃
I Love eating fish , ive stopped fishing for river fish with all this catch and release
I eat a lot of fish Ian I was going to try for some mackerel tomorrow but other things have got in the way maybe sometime soon. they are great on the BBQ. Cheers Iain. 🥃
What a belter.....
That pool is renowned for holding good sea trout and I think that Ritchie has seen them often and didn't seem to exited. I had a big smile for the rest of the day. Cheers Iain. 🥃

its not often we get sea trout that size taking our flies I will look forward to catching more at any size they are beautiful fish

If we caught a couple of these every year we would be happy Frank. I think my biggest was back in 2014 I had one of about 14lb next time I get a sea trout I may tag a photo of it onto the end of a video. Cheers Iain. 🥃

I heard today that Norway has closed 27 river due to conservation problems this could happen in Scotland if nothing is done to help improve stocks ... Marine Scotland are determined to try close all hatcheries except if the salmon are almost none existent
leaving wild life to their own devices isn't an option these days man has altered the world that much that control and assistance are needed in some cases excuse the rant

Lot of nice size seatrout here where i live in Norway this year and they are in the rivers very early, quite a few 12 pounders caught already and we see some in the 16-20 pound range jumping here and there.
That is good that the seatrout are there in numbers that can be seen and ones that are so large It is horrific to find out that there have been so many rivers closed because of the lack of fish. hopefully something can be done to rectify the loss of one of Norways star attractions Cheers Iain. 🥃

Nice fish Iain.....unfortunately I lost a big fish at Kinkell Bridge on Monday morning....took off for the sea and I couldn't follow it or turn it and that was that. It's nice to see you getting one though...hopefully a few more to come for ye. All the best....
I think I have had the same fish at my fly Kevin I have lost 8 fish so far this season. its a good job our sport isn't called catching or I would have a bad reputation Tighter Lines.

Ah...a beat I would love to try...have never got near it in 25 years of spring labours and hopes on the lower Tweed.

It is Sam. It will take a while to refill my Piggy bank and in the mean time I'll try to take it out for a cast it is a great rod to fish with. I had a cast with the 15ft er but think it's a bit heavy for me all the rest in the R 8 range are pretty good. have you managed to have a cast with one. Cheers Iain. 🥃
@@IainSB I have Ian ,a brief shot of the 14ftr with a spey line,to me the line was too light for the rod and i didnt really enjoy it, maybe i am too used to my gaelforce rods that bend into the handle,it was a beautiful looking rod tho ,what model did you go for
