A day out fishing 6th September at Old Melrose with my friend Ian. It was my first time fishing on the beat and grateful to Ian for taking me and showing me the beat

I have been teased rotten over the last year James so many days with fish splashing about me and the odd one plucking at the fly James. I have really had a great time fishing on a variety of beats on different rivers and look forward to going back to some and hopefully trying some new ones. All the best for the coming season and hope your net is always full of silver Cheers Iain. 🥃
Happy New year Iain, hope you had a good Xmas and hogmanay. It seemed like there were more salmon and sea trout about in 2024, can we dare to hope for a further improvement in 2025??, I hope so !!. I saw more reds cut on the river Tweed than I have seen for a lot of years and had spoken with quite a few anglers that say the same. even although there seemed to be more and larger salmon they weren't that interested. scientists recon that it was mostly due to a large change in water temperatures in the Autumn. one day the river temp rose by 5 degrees and then dropped by 5 degrees this also caused stress and brought on quite a bit of disease. we can only hope that the cold weather that we have now helps with the salmon of the future tight lines for the season ahead. I have always put my casting down to a misspent youth. I spent more time chasing trout when I was young JNC than I did spend doing home work. My father never complaind as he eat most of the fish that I caught All the best for the coming season. Tight Lines Cheers Iain. 🥃

@ Santa bought my line and reel so new rod and waders are in order. Only got a couple 15ft setups and have found them too big and a pain for fishing for the middle tweed upwards so going for a 13ft setup. Need new waders because I decided to Rip them doing the splits slipping off the bank🤣

A question Ian hoping to get back into Salmon Fishing 2025 after a layoff noticed on some Salmon Angling Fishing videos Anglers using Rods with bottom eye missing or line not threaded through bottom eye..is there a reason for this.?? Regards James p.s. enjoy your videos.
I am not sure about other anglers James. With myself it's usually because I'm in that much of a hurray to get my fly in the water I miss threading the line through. I do not recommend fishing with the line loose around an eye as it can form a loop and get snagged, I have had this happen when casting and would hate to have it happen while playing a fish. Ian are you casting and stripping back in every cast?? Ie cast and start stripping?
I was stripping the line back. I had a Sunrae Shadow and hope something would attack it Cheers Iain. 🥃
