River Tweed Salmon Fishing Early Season 2024
I've fished the Tweed for 40 years and if the powers that be can't see the plague of goosanders that are eating their weight in fish every week which is a major factor to the detriment of all the fish in the river then there is something wrong. The trout fishing on the tweed is a fraction of what it used to be as well. Habitat alone will not bring back the salmon or trout eaten by these birds. Tree planting won't stop fish eating birds. Wake up fish eating birds need controlled as well these are an invasive species not native to UK.
An interesting and enjoyable film that raises a rallying cry that the politicians must hear and act on positively and strongly.
The elitist nature of salmon fishing in Scotland doesn't help. Lots more public free access water would help. In Michigan, I can float or wade every stream or river in the state.
Very well put together brilliant commendable hope the Scottish government take note and do more 👍
Most of the most prolific beats are out of price ranges of your ordinary working man hence angler's travelling from all over the world to fish them and usually wealthy land owners owning them looking for government money and volunteers to keep there fishing business viable maybe if these were more accessible to general public for fishing instead of dead man's shoes more of general public would care and know about the Atlantic salmon decline more inclusive in my view would be more help
Thank you for the shout mate… good work this season 💪💪💪🎣🎣🎣
Thanks 🙏 No problem at all mate 👍
Good video, covering difficult topics. The one thing that absolutely confounds me is how many salmon anglers jump on planes multiple times a year creating huge carbon footprints when we know a warming climate and water is taking its toll not just on our salmon population. Ive decided to fish the best beats in the UK rather than chasing silver overseas.
Man made climate change is bullshit and just just another way of controlling the masses, I swim in the sea a lot and I assure you it's not getting any warmer.
Great video tam have seen salmon fishing at its best when you could walk across them in the rivers 20 .30 40 years ago you would take action against predators that were causing problems on the rivers now you can't say boo to them without people reporting you and these people have no idea about wildlife and how to manage it we.kept diaries of catches back then and salmon would go on a 5 to 6 year cycle you would have a great season then next would be not as good and so on then bang back to normal
An excellent, very informative video.
Yes, it’s really good video. Credit to all involved 👍
it’s a Guideline NT8 rod‼️
Nice one, I wouldn’t know 😀
Awesome fishing Tam. What flee were you using? Thanks
Thanks Richard, don’t actually know the name of the fly. It’s a pattern that I saw online and asked someone to tie it for me. I show it in video a lot so you can just have a look there. It’s a killer tho!
@@Hookedonfly 😂 no worries Tam. It’s always nice to copy successful patterns. Well done anyway 👏
Excellent exhibition in sympathetic handling of the fish giving them the very best chance of quick recovery. Well done.
Thanks very much, appreciate it. Thanks for watching 👍
Is the Salmon season over
On some rivers yes but the Tweed is open till end of November
Great video and fishing, congratulations and well deserved! YOu might want to use the 'deja vu' function on the GoPro to avoid missing any takes. Thanks for producing and sharing!
Thanks very much 👍 It’s not the settings ,just my bad decisions. Just need to keep it rolling more, specially if I have another 2 fresh batteries in the pocket 🙄😂
Awesome video, congrats to the nice fishes 👍👊
Thanks for watching as always 👊
Great video, again 👍Congratz on the triple 🙂When does the season end where you fish?
Thanks very much, I’m glad you like the videos. Yeah, 3 fish in one day is pretty good. I could get used to that haha The season around here is finishing in November 30
Great days fishing well done. Glad you got the take of that last fish on film. Something special about seeing the line tighten up 🎣🐟 Also great handling of the fish which is nice to see.
Thanks very much 👍 It’s really hard to get the take on camera as you need to keep it rolling but it is definitely worth it! Tight lines!
🎉🎉🎉Well Done, Nothing like it. Roll on next year . .
Cheers 👍
Gwan mate , also oil slick forceps 😁
Haha only the best for my fish 🤪 Thanks for watching 👊
Well done Tom thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching 👍 Tight lines!
Hi Tam what rod do you use and what make of line please
Hey, I’m using Greys GR60 14ft #9/10 rod. Rod is great but the cork is starting to wear all ready and I have only bought it 6 months ago. The line is Rio Outbound Elite, amazing line and I would highly recommend it.
Amazing Tam! Brilliant video buddy!! 👏🎣🎣🤘🏻
Thanks mate, appreciate it 👊
Are you scared of saying that you are stripping the line/fly? ;) LOL To strip can be very effective for salmon at times and I am shocked by how many that never do it. And way to many that do it, are to monotone and do it the same all the time. Variety is the keyword for stripping. And don't think that stripping is only for when there is little water and the river is moving slowly. Way to many are stuck in their ways and old "truths". The ones willing to think outside the box are usually the ones that have the most success. Tight lines!
Hahaha that was honest mistake that 😂 I do strip the fly when the water is little slower and sometimes even if it’s not. You need to try every trick in the book to try to get them. I do agree not many anglers are actually using different tactics, always the same old same.
Well done mate 💪
Thanks buddy 👍
Fishing for spawning fish . Should be stopped end of September ..
Yeah targeting any other fish when it's their spawning season is not allowed 👍👍👍 good point mate 🤫🤫🤫
👍
My River is closed for the Season but some are still open actually so dont be too hasty with the comments. I never got one this season. Roll on next season 🏴🏴
What river is this please. Thanks 👍 😊 😊
River Tweed is open till one of November. Long season here. Hopefully you have more luck next season, tight lines! 👊
Congratulations on the hat-trick Tam
Thanks very much 👍
What beat was that if not mind me asking ? What a day you had. Fishing etterick on Saturday so here is hoping the rain picks things up
You are in luck! Good lift of water today so Saturday should be pretty decent. I will try to get out as well if I can. Good luck on Saturday! No beads, club water
Great fishing!!! It is also VERY nice to see how you handle the fish, by netting it and releasing it quickly. That is how catch and release should be done. To bring the fish up on land by "beaching" it can VERY easily damage shells and the slime coat. This can happen with the wrong netting in the landing net as well. And if that damage happens, the risk of the fish dying is high to very high. It is worse in the summer with higher water temperatures, but should be considered all the time. Way to many handle the fish for way to long to take all sorts of pictures and videos as well and that results in more stress and higher risks of damaging the fish. I really hope people can learn from you how to do catch and release the good way. I live and fish in Norway and our season ended a long time ago, so I have to wait for next season. I prefer to fish for seatrout with a one hand rod, but I am never unhappy when a salmon decides to take my fly 😁 I do flyfish for seatrout in the sea as well and if I am lucky with the weather, I might still have a couple of fishing days left this year. And if not, then I need to wait for a few months till I can start to fish for them in the sea in the spring. Hopefully there will be an early and warm spring next year. I wish you the best and tight lines!
Hey, thanks for watching my video and compliments on my fishing. If the fish is nice ,I do take a quick photo as well but not messing around and the fish is quickly on its way back. Fishing in Norway looks amazing, some good sea trout fishing for sure 👌 And salmon obviously haha Have a good season and tight lines 👊
Congratulations, what a brilliant day for you
Thanks very much, I couldn’t believe it really. Don’t think I will get many more days like this
Hi pal, I seen your van in Chirnside!! That’s where I stay, I’m a plasterer too and a keen fisherman, you should try the whiteadder sometime
Hey mate, well spotted! I’m back there on Friday actually lol Yeah, I’m planning to have a go next season. I heard some good things about it 👍 Ps: plasterers for the win 🤘😀
I’ve had 4 and not even fishing for salmon, had a beautiful springer in march, I will keep an eye out for your van on Friday, plastering is a killer 😜 I’ve done it 20 years now
That’s good going for not even fishing for them, I may need some tips from you haha Yeah, it is hard work mate. Hope you had a good season 👍
A red letter day Tam
I don’t know what red letter day means 😀
@@Hookedonfly A red letter day (sometimes hyphenated as red-letter day) is any day of special significance or opportunity
Ah, thanks for the explanation 👍
Well done Tam. That is a good days fishing.
Thanks, definitely my best day yet. Hopefully more days like this to come 🤞
👍
👌
Music to the ears👍
It really is 👌
River tweed near Gala?
Yes it is 👍 Tweedwood
What shooting head do you use mate
Don’t know I’m afraid, use to be a gullie years ago and got a load of freebie’s from Airflo & Ovis couldn’t tell you what it was. Nice beat though.
I’m using Rio outbound elite line, would highly recommend.
Very good! Free fishing is good fishing in my books 👍
Whitch shooting head?
The line is Rio elite outbound, great line. Would recommend it
What a beauty
Thanks very much 👍
What line do you use it doesn’t half go out well
I am using Rio elite outbound, love that line! Would highly recommend
This looks like one of my favourite spots on the Ettrick
Ha! That’s because it is exactly that spot 😀 Need some water, very low now.
Sunday shadow a great method - try turning your rod right angles to the fly when retrieving it.
Sunray shadow even😂
Cool, will try that next time 👍
Haha
Snake roll 👍 great cast for a downstream wind
Cast I don’t do very often but definitely great cast indeed!
Great stuff Tam, really enjoyed that man 🤘🏻 Would like to visit this place in the future!!
Thanks 🙏 You definitely should! Really good place to fish, I can keep you company if you do 😉
I really enjoy your videos Tam. I'm still trying to work out your home accent although it is mixed with a little borrrders. Where are you from Tam?
Thanks, I’m glad you like the videos. Always nice to hear that 🙂 Haha yes, my accent puzzled few ppl now. I’m originally from Czech Republic but been living in Scotland for around 15 years. That’s the mixture of Central European and Scottish blend you hear haha
350 quid a day for prime time fishing for dark fish ,is not in my opinion " value for money ".
The prices can be crazy at the prime time, I wouldn’t personally pay more than £100 or just over. Fish is a fish to me, as long as it’s at the end of my line.
Totally agree. One good run on many rivers mibby the Atlantic salmons last push.never been protected an never will, only protected from the working class 👏
Looks like a great beat Tam. Will need to visit one day. 👍
You would definitely like it, plenty of water to go at and good price as well. It ticks all the boxes 🙂
Great video again. Better luck next time 👍👊
Cheers 👍
Hi Tam,looks sublime! I'm watching the water level closely as heading up to Holylee and Fairnlee in two weeks. The Guilee's set up was really nice, especially the classic Cascapedia, really nice. Do you know what the running line was? I've got a Rio shooting head but can't seem to find a nice running line to match it without it being too thin?
Good stuff! Hope the weather is kind to you and you get perfect conditions and hopefully few pulls on the line. I’m pretty sure the line set up was part of the Rio Versitip, check it out and I’m sure you will find the running line in description. Tight lines!
@@Hookedonfly thanks Tam, I'll have a look at that as I currently use the Rio Shooting Heads with interchangeable tips, but it didn't come with the running line, so trying to match the thickness of the line to the head. Anyway, on a separate note, I have availability of an extra rod on the 17th, 18th and 19th on three different beats on the upper tweed (my brother was due to join me but illness has taken him out), you're more than welcome to join me if your free? If so, I can send you my mobile to arrange.
Much appreciated the offer but unfortunately im busy those days, otherwise I would do a day or two. Hope you find someone else mate
@@Hookedonfly no problem at all. I'll see if anyone else available. I'm not looking for any money for these, I've booked for two rods and definitely don't want them to go waste. All best for now. Keep the reels coming bud 👍🏻
What was the make of rod you were using?
I can’t remember to be honest, I just know it was 14 footer. Need to pay more attention next time 🙂
Looked like guideline LPX
It could be, not sure. Nice set up to use for a day anyway
It was a guideline, you can tell as the noise the line makes in the rod rings before the line is wet. 👍
Love your videos Tam, likewise also keen mountain biker so love your other videos too, I have been fly fishing for 40 odd years, mostly for Browns and Grayling via euro nymphing, but this past while I have been going for salmon, I have caught salmon, grilse and sea trout when euro nymphing , but never when I have been trying to catch them, but going by your 200 hours.. I may still have another 100 hours before I get one 😂 great videos
Hi Richard, I’m glad you are enjoying the videos on both channels. Bikes and fishing is definitely the way to go! 👌 Yeah ,salmon fishing is tough! You really need to spend some hours on the river but once you get the pull it’s just amazing! Just keep doing what you doing and I’m sure you will get one soon!
Great video Tam. The joys of salmon fishing you win some and you lose some. Tight lines for the next trip
Thanks mate 👍 Haha exactly, hopefully the next one will stick. Tight lines !
Greetings from Norway. Just finished watching all your videos 😅Enjoyed them a lot 😀
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the videos, hopefully I will be making some in Norway one day 😉 Tight lines!
Brilliant fishing there buddy! New subscriber here
Thanks mate 👍
