how do you record it though, i tried screen recording through the ps but it comes out with really bad quality in capture gallery

Try manual record instead of "save recent gameplay". In that same selection menu where you start manual record, ensure you go to the settings to the far right first to ensure its set to the 4k recording instead of 1080 (it shows the resolution pixels in the settings, not "4k"). Ensure your tv is 4k as well or it wont record in 4k.
