Don't apologize for making these types of videos. It is what is needed to learn for the purpose and if someone doesn't want to watch it, they can just not watch it.
Some people don't appreciate the help they're getting these days with the videos tips. Back in the old days i had to really ask a mechanic about this"game"questions and they roasted me but still help 😂
these types of videos are so important for general knowledge, like here on youtube just random videos about random part replacements like an o2 sensor on a 2001 1500
I’m going to need to watch this 3 more times and take notes. I grasp the basic principles and totally dig it. Biggest take away? Shifting in the correct moments to stay in the power band. I probably don’t do that. So that’s gonna be the first thing I do tomorrow.
I have divided this video into many chapters to break down each section and make it a bit easier to digest. Hope this helps! To those who might've seen this before, this is a reupload to correct a few things from the first time. Thanks to those who provided feedback for that!
The video is gold in information and to make the most of it I have watched it more than 5 times to break it down and understand it. Greetings from Ecuador.
My five cents. Choose your car and track combination. Ideally the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 event. Set final drive to 4:1 Set first gear to 3:1 Set final drive to 1:1 Spread the other gears so it looks nice. Drive the car for a couple of laps. Note problems you notice. Revving out in top gear, for example. Move final drive to improve top speed. Move first drive so you can use it effectively when lapping. If you tune for best standing start you might enjoy drag racing. Spread the other gears so it looks nice. Do some more laps. Fine tune. Now is the time to look more closely at the middle gears. Look for good gear/corner combinations. More laps. Fine tune. And repeat. Thank you, Harmonic. Your intro into gearing is good stuff. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Brakes.
Thanks brother, I’m determined to be faster than most people I meet online w engine swaps, after about a month of slow and frustrating progress I’m on RUclips trying to understand the craft that is gear ratios. People are helpful in lobbies but don’t want to give away their secrets which I don’t blame them for! Side note how fun are engine swaps on gt7? Used to drift on there but now absolutely love drag racing! Personally love gt7 not perfect but it’s exciting! God bless you for the effort for this video, I’ve watched a few now and this one actually explains it well. Proper dear John essay thanks for reading if you did! One Love.
This video really helped me understand how it all works enough to be able to control my Supra RZ build. There's still a lot that needs to be done, but the fact that I'm not spinning out of control from the slightest application of throttle really goes to show how helpful the info is. Even though brake balancing was important, I would still go all over the place. Thank you so much for this video, dude. I'm actually excited to tune more cars as a result!
Great video! I’ve been playing these games for years Gran Turismo sport wasn’t as technical and I’m really glad they brought back a lot of the old tuning selections and visual pieces that go along with. Suspension has always been the part about this game I haven’t fully understood I have a basic understanding of it.
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. My 1LE Camaro was having extreme trouble with preset 3rd gear, whether it was getting to it or leaving it. I’d red line 2nd then flip to third and third would red line instantly and i was so confused on how to fix that as to not spin out attempting to reach 4th gear. Now all gears ride smooth, with a slight redline on 3rd, but nowhere near as bad.
Can you please share what you did to the gears? Im having the exact same issue, I tuned the 1LE almost to the max and the amount of wheelspin is insane, I have to do 2nd gear with just 50% throttle and 3rd can't go full throttle until the very end, then in 4th I have to once again wait quite a bit until I can go full throttle (I play without TC). All this even without the superchargers.
Great video, I learned more here than I did with my math teacher. There’s no need to apologize, at the end, the people who hate are just gonna loose the speed. Keep talking facts man! And don’t hear haters
Thank you. I love the way you explain things and the dynamics you apply to your videos. Certainly one of the best channels about this topic. Congrats and thank you again!
Thx for this video as it answered my question about retention of settings for fully customizable gearbox. Most of the other topics served to confirm what I already understood about GT gearing implementation. I wish more players interested in or confounded by this tuning aspect also could view this. Attempting to replicate IndyCar settings for ovals, I was attempting to run multiple top gears by closely stacking them - fail. Armed with this new knowledge, I still must revisit this technique when I again have access to the game. Thx also for reference videos; I've followed Jason on YT for years & these are finely detailed & are soundly mathematically based. I very recently had viewed a couple of your videos concerning GT7 topics as they luckily appeared in my timeline. Only today did I find this video referenced from GT Planet; more good fortune. I am a new sub for your channel; I really enjoy your presentation style 😎
Have yet to delve into what you've tackled here in GT7 (did it back in the GT days of old), but currently each car I drive I somewhat get to _feel_ where the power bands are in relation to each's peak torque and max power simply by listening to the engine's audio (and the length of time it appears to yield through each gear's progression). Not an ideal approach of course trying to hear where these power bands are so appreciate the thorough demonstrations of what actually happens if we drove each car as we'd generally expect - revving all the way out to the redline, though as you've shown for some cars it's a clear disadvantage if not set up properly. Just came across your channel so will endeavour to watch any other informative aspects of car tuning in GT7 - if they're as extensive and informative as this, superb instruction - I get the feeling there's going to be a high demand for such content.
I touch base on this in my video where I explain a very simple method, without the math, how to do gear ratios. ruclips.net/video/hV-pIxRpUdc/видео.html
great explanation, i always do a test run with normal gears and take notes, adjust my gears so that way my top speed isn't compromised, then i run another test lap until i am satisfied with the setup.
The bumper cam view was always intended by the creators to be the main view that everyone would use the relative speed as far as visual goes is best related in bumper view. Also, all of the race information is available in bumper view cockpit when I'm using VR in my rig, but using a controller sitting in my chair I normally use bumper. I'm driving in MT and I noticed sometimes it's an advantage to over rev as a control, if you shift only in the power band the next gear is more prone to fish tail, maybe some differential tuning is next to tune on controlling the power band.

Hello, thank you for the video. I wouldn't mind learning a bit about the camber settings in GT7. Since seeing your video about the ride height I started using photo mode to look at my tires and the suspensions compression. I've noticed the tires themselves are compressing and stretching too in the game which is awesome, but it seems that the camber does not change at all with the movement of the suspension. You would think when the body presses down on the outside strut the camber becomes more negative and visa versa, but I don't see it. It made me think about your tunes with minimal camber setup. It's also hard for me to decide if I should raise the spring rate, dampeners or torsion bars. I've raised my car 40mm but I still don't get to full steering lock with my controller while taking some turns, I suspect GT7 has some sort of steering aid always on when using a controller, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was my suspension setup. I try this on a Ford Focus RS with 499Bhp and wide wheels. Also my handbrake does not work anymore, even with the tuning handbrake. I bought another RS, didn't tune it and my handbrake does work. You are the man ! Thanks keep it up on your next video can you show us on the transmission screen where we should line up the lines more or less that would be very helpful also thank you for what you do.
Agreed. I love the information, but the chart with the gear lines doesn’t totally make sense to me. Especially as it has 7,000 RPM at the top where the car is at Max Power at 6,500 in the example. The other thing was the “Max Speed” setting shown on the main screen after changing the gears.
@@coachjoeenglish I chose not to go into that because it takes even more guess work to figure out where your gears land by looking at the chart, and it just increases confusion. Because of how basic that chart is in the game, its only practical use for me is making sure my gears don't look oddly spaced out. If it had a grid and some more detail, I would definitely use it more. You're much better off just driving on the track and setting gears that way. As long as you understand how to make gears longer and shorter with the sliders and why you should do so, that's all you really need. As for the Top Speed setting, it's just a quick slider to set all gears longer or shorter. Be careful with it though, because if you move it after setting your individual gears, it will revert those changes. That's why I tend not to use it.
