  • This Video shows you how to change your DIFFERENTIAL fluid this video was done on a 2008 f-350. But it is the same basic process or any Truck or SUV.
    Thanks for watching

The reason you go around the inside of the bolt is so it doesn't leak through the bolt holes, only a thin bead of sealant is needed.

Not a bad video, noticed a couple things i would have done differently though, i would have put a little gasket sealer on the gasket you used and i wouldn’t have used a screwdriver to stick in between the cover and diff, it could bend the cover causing it to leak, use a butter knife or something thin like that to create separation

Make you don't break any if you have an older escape

Excellent, and thank you for your time. I like the idea of leaving the top bolt on - never thought of that.
Here's an idea that might make a good video even better: To separate the cover, use an old butter knife (yup, I have one in my toolbox) and then a wide cold chisel, or other solid metal object. If you pound on a plastic handled screwdriver, you will eventually drive the metal shaft into the plastic handle and break it - I lost a couple of screwdrivers that way before I learned my lesson.

Great video! Thanks. Did you let the brake cleaner completely dryup inside the diff before you placed the cover back on? Blow dry? I would think that any brake cleaner residue would not work well with the diff fluid. My '09 F-150 has the rear diff pinion seal leaking. I thought it would be too early for it to go. Will also check if the axle has a vent tube as I heard that if it is clogged the seal is subject to failure from pressure build up.
Thanks again for posting your video.

Nope i just sprayed wiped with rag then air dry as i got new seal ready....once i wiped it with rag and it sat for maybe 2mins it was dry......yeah i would suggest checking for and clearing any possible clogs...

Great video but go on the inside when you put seal around the bolt hole or it will leak through the bolt. I always go completely around the bolt hole with sealant.

What's the torque specs for the cover bolts? How many ft lbs do you tighten the bolts?

Does your truck have the limited slip differential? I just ask because I know mine requires a friction modifier; or so I've been told.

+Adam Mullen no i dont think it does.

Good to go; thank you for the very timely response.

+Adam Mullen if you use a good quality dif fluid like AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR you do not need friction modifier. you need to add the modifier in ford fluids because the 10.5 lim-slip will chatter on turns.

How does one know if he or she needs to add friction modifier?

    • @Go2Sleep911
      @Go2Sleep911 8 лет назад +2

+Vic O. If you use the ford synthetic then you have to add it if you have the 10.5 limited slip. If you use amsoil, or I think royal purple you do not need to add it. You will hear a chatter and vibration from your rear end to tell you you need it. B

desiree Woods I've seen guys putting super duty axle and suspension on a 95 Bronco, so I'm sure it's possible just not sure how you would go about it

You need to blow your nose
A little better video work. Get rid of your old oil. Maybe use a pump of some sort to refill. But I learned something watching you.
Thank you for your time and video

I'll try. Have heard of allergies? My methods worked just fine for me. I'm glad you learned something, no matter how big or small. That's what I'm here for.

Do I need the gasket if I’m only using permatex as a gasket ?

Good video. I have a 2008 f350 with the 10.5" axle probably the same as yours? According to Ford the fluid should be 75-140 with limited slip and friction modifier. I found a cool reference from Ford Motorcraft axle lube requirements. Check it out. There's also a tag on the top bolt that says the weight of oil. On mine it says 75-140, I also got the same info from the dealer.
