Rear differential needed approximately 2.5 quarts of 80w90 gear oil to refill..
How did you get 2.5 qt to fit? I couldn’t get more than just over 2 qt, like about 2 1/8 quarts was all mine would hold and even then it was pouring out of the fill plug
@@rollin18wheels Read on some forums that it's between 2 and 2.5 qts. Just depends on the different models of each diff I'm assuming.
Thanks so much for this instruction! Specifically the ring gear sizing. Certainly helpful for my 2000 Ford Ranger.
Glad to have helped..
The same info from the axle tag is available on the door sticker on the driver side where the date of manufacture and vin and paint code etc is stamped
Good to know.. Thanks..
Thanks for taking the time to film all the Ranger videos PBM. I've been enjoying the series!
You are welcome.. Thanks for reply..
Awesome job and information 👍🏻.
Nice info on how to figure out the gasket size, thanks! I think my O4 might be missing that tag though.
Great video. Thanks.
The fluid is good
Tank buen video
very helpful thx pal
Good job buddy
thanks..
What about the vent and tube?
Good time to check those.
Also, Dino oil might not be the best to use.
Valvoline 75w 90 semi or full synthetic can help in the winter as well as give you slightly better MPG.
Dino if you haul or pull a lot of weight regularly.
75W 90 if you mostly do traveling with light to no load.
Hi can you please advice me a good dff oil for my tdic 3litre 2008 model ford ranger bakkie
Try to remove the fill plug before draining the fluid just in case fill plug isn’t nice.
I always apply rtv to mine. For some reason, when I only use gasket, I get a leak. Great video!
When you apply rtv in addition to a gasket, where are you applying it? Just to the cover? Thx
@@jacksondriscoll98 both cover and differential bolt line.
Can you use 75w-90 fluid? According to research this fluid is better than 80w-90.
What size cover is that?
Good vid. Where did you find how many foot pounds torque to tighten the bolts?
At the bottom of this page Diff Plate 30ft-lbs: ford-specs.com/cars/2007/ranger2.3/torque-specs_rear.php
Does anyone know the plug part number or size?!? Mine is stripped
Do you got any problems with the gasket till now. Or ist it possible to use both , rtv in combination with a gasket.
It's been a little over a year and no leaks using just the gasket.. You can use RTV but there's a special one made specifically for differentials:www.amazon.com/Permatex-81182-Gear-Gasket-Maker/dp/B0023GM2KK?th=1
Great video, thank you for it. Does anybody know how to loosen the fill plug? Bloody thing is stuck. Don't have room to get it with a breaker bar, hit it with WD-40 still no luck.
If you have a propane torch you could heat the plug to expand the metal..
The old gear oil was there for how long? 60k miles?
At least 8years and 55k.. Before that I don't know.. Different owner.. Truck had 152k when I did the change..
I’m really new but shaving stuff light that with the power brush and the open diff was making me extremely nervous lmao. Am I being a Nelly or what ?
Was that anti-sieze on the fill bolt, or locktite? Or was it just whatever was leftover from whoever used rtv? 😂
I had not noticed that but yeah, if you freeze at 00:39 there's red on the threads.. You may be right, some type of anti-seize.. Not sure though..
Btw, how often to change this oil?
Based on the scheduled maintenance guide every 60k miles..
Great video but you missed a few important things like wear gloves and what's the size of the bolts?
Also paint the damn cover 😮lol
I so wanted to paint the cover. lol
Do they use conventional or synthetic
Owner's manual calls for Motorcraft SAE 80w-90 which is not synthetic.. But I don't think using synthetic would cause any harm..
How much torque for the Cover screws?
04:41 30ft pounds..
@@tongo117 thanks
Any leaks so far?
It's good.. No leak..
Would this be GL-4 or 5?
This is what I used.. The back label shows GL-5: www.walmart.com/ip/ST-GEAR-1G-80W90/285692831?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=4556&adid=22222222277285692831_117755028669_12420145346&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-294505072980&wl5=9011294&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=285692831&wl13=4556&veh=sem_LIA&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaWWwlZkHFxTt5QnK6o2ZEXxMJHVLXYXMi4J7hxG12FPgIrOKIZyTooaAjDeEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
@@tongo117 perfect thanks for confirming! Just wrote it down on my owners manual that the trans is GL-4 and diff GL-5. I’ll tell ya it’s hard to find info/specs on these old rides
Had to break out the acetylene torch to free the plug lol
by any means necessary..
Impact gun might be better. Less risk of heat damage.
