Such a melancholy song, not only because of the music and the lyrics, but because it reminds me that this era is gone, and we’ll never see it’s like again….. 🥲
The lyrics tear at my soul as I think of my high school sweetheart telling me that our engagement was off. That was over 38 years ago and I have not since loved anyone as I loved her. It seemed so easy for her to walk away, but it left a hole in me that has never healed.
I feel for you. Something similar happened to me over 45 yrs ago. But through it I found the trinity God head & discovered that God had someone else in mind for me, someone I'd met briefly some 2&1/2 years earlier at a dance. We danced together for an HR & a half ,then went our separate ways. 2&1/2 yrs later we reconnected & found that we were both believers in Christ now, so figured God had a special plan for us. We've been married 44 yrs come February 5th. Has the hole mended? No not really, just a lot of scar tissue. Thankfully my wife is very understanding & loves me anyway. That is a big help. Ask Jesus to come into your heart, he can help to mend it.
@@stantaylor3350 I hear you, Stan. Unfortunately, I was not as lucky as you were and never did find a soul mate. I have been a believer in Jesus for most of my life and He has helped me through the difficult times. Scar tissue is nature's way of healing a wound, but I never felt healed, more like learning to walk with a limp.
I know it won’t help to hear this but if you two stayed together, you may have fallen out of love with her and then it wouldn’t have hurt as much when she left.
@@brianmills7729 You're absolutely right, Brian. Writers today turn on a drum machine, add some guitar and key loops, and sing stupid, nonsensical, heartless, lyrics that have no meaning and no soul. It's ridiculous.
This a phenomenal song. But my God, the M&P's were competing with the friggin' Beatles. And Motown. And Bob Dylan. And the Beach Boys. So much good music in the Sixties.
My high school days w er between 1964 and 1968.When getting ready for school I would hear them on the local top 40 station in Philadelphia.singing this tune.As a pop group they fast forwarded American pop music rapidly from It's my party by Leslie Gore to this masterpiece.
The Ms & Ps recorded so many beautiful songs that is hard to pick one favorite. However this one would be a good candidate. Perfect from beginning to end!
And the rain beats on my roof And it does not ask for proof It's not that lovers are unkind She always said there'd come a time When one would leave and one stay behind We both knew people sometimes change And lovers sometimes rearrange And nothing's quite as sure as change And the rain beats on my roof Look through my window to the street below See the people hurryin' by With someone to meet, some place to go And I know I should let go She always said I'm not like you When love is dead for me it's through And I will find and love someone new Look through my window to the street below See the people hurryin' by With someone to meet, some place to go And I know I should let go I must admit she knew her mind And it will not take her long to find Another place where the sun will shine And the rain beats on my roof If I still require proof Well the rain beats on my roof (she's gone) If I still require proof (she's gone) Well the rain beats on my roof (look through my window)

Listen closely at 0:06 seconds and you can hear Cass say something. I think it's "stay closer." Great , haunting ballad. One of their best for sure !!!

Never be ashamed to be American....in '66 there was the Viet Nam war, Freedom Marches, race riots, assassination of JFK...anti-war demonstrations....moreto come....a very troubled time then as well

Reminds me of my wife. She passed in 2020, this song helps me out on bad days. Great Song. Thanks Mamas And Papas.
After a half-century, STILL America's greatest vocal group.
My favourite song of theirs, deserves to be better known.
One of the best Groups We ever had.
You mean The best group.

This song carries a lot of weight and can take one to some dark places, but GD it's so good isn't it?

I enjoyed listening to this song on rainy days back in 1967 Los Gatos, California. Oh, the music then....
An Era long past... And SO missed... ❤
Boy, Bill... You SAID it!
Amen brother !
I think this gorgeous and clever song is their best work
This is my #2 favorite by these 4 incredibly talented people. " Dancing Bear " is my #1, & " California Dreaming " is # 3. ----------------MJL, 76 y/o
Many forget that Denny was the lead singer to all their big hits.Michelle where have you gone!
I wish people would keep making songs like these ,classics
They can't they have no talent today

This song is a gem from rocks Golden Age, the likes of which is likely to never to be heard again.
That is impossible this is not the 60's
RIP John, Denny and Cass
Those beautiful harmonies....
Harmony and melody beyond!!
Second on to "Twelve Thirty" as their greatest single. Why wasn't this a monster hit?

I was born in 1976, High school in the
90's. I listened a lot of this song. Would have loved to live your years in HS
Hey Leslie Gore was a great performer watch her singing you don't own me live it will give you goosebumps.
My High School Days were between 1961 and 1966.
Now THAT was music!

I like how this song seems to start in the middle of the song.
Sifey, this the first song we danced to, I remember now and always will
I never remember, I’ll never forget how much I loveyouand always will, God bless you
Beautiful!! 💕
Wonderful song.
And the rain beats on my roof
And it does not ask for proof
It's not that lovers are unkind
She always said there'd come a time
When one would leave and one stay behind
We both knew people sometimes change
And lovers sometimes rearrange
And nothing's quite as sure as change
And the rain beats on my roof
Look through my window to the street below
See the people hurryin' by
With someone to meet, some place to go
And I know I should let go
She always said I'm not like you
When love is dead for me it's through
And I will find and love someone new
Look through my window to the street below
See the people hurryin' by
With someone to meet, some place to go
And I know I should let go
I must admit she knew her mind
And it will not take her long to find
Another place where the sun will shine
And the rain beats on my roof
If I still require proof
Well the rain beats on my roof (she's gone)
If I still require proof (she's gone)
Well the rain beats on my roof (look through my window)
Such a powerful song!
Never was too much of a fan of them but this one I like.
Must have not have been as big as some of their other songs.
